These beautiful babies were found in a plastic bag, tied with wire, hanging from a tree in the middle of a field in Taxiarchis, North Evia, Greece.

It’s only thanks to the volunteers from ARTEMIS-Φιλοζωικός Σύλλογος Εθελοντών Βόρειας Εύβοιας, who we proudly support, that they were discovered, purely by chance.

Sadly, two of the six pups didn’t survive, but the other four are strong and looking for their forever homes.

Why do people do this to such defenseless souls? We may never know.

URGENT: PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE AND COMMENT ⬇️🚨

Attica Zoological Park in Athens has announced plans to transport up to five bottlenose dolphins over 10,000 km to an aquarium in Florida, where they will once again be used for entertainment purposes.

Please help us oppose this transfer by visiting ➡️ https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/NOAA-NMFS-2024-0140-0001 and leaving a comment opposing the transfer.

Here is an example comment you can use or edit:

“I strongly oppose the application to transfer up to five bottlenose dolphins from Greece to Florida. Transporting these dolphins such a long distance poses significant risks to their health and well-being, including stress, dehydration, injury, and even death during transit. These dolphins have already endured lives of exploitation and deserve the opportunity to live out their remaining years in peace.

A more compassionate and humane alternative exists relocating the dolphins to one of the planned dolphin retirement facilities in Greece, on the islands of Lipsi or Crete. These locations are less than 200 miles away and would provide a safe and natural environment for the dolphins to recover and thrive.

Approving this transfer would only perpetuate the exploitation of these sentient and intelligent beings for public display. I urge NOAA Fisheries to deny this application and prioritise the welfare of these dolphins above commercial interests.”

We urge you to take immediate action and please share with friends and family, the more comments the better! 🙏

Beautiful Chickpea was found last year in Syros, struggling to survive and alone at just a few weeks old.

Thankfully, she was given urgent medical care and as you can see, she is now doing very well and has the biggest, eyes we’ve ever seen on a cat! 👁👁

We are proud to provide funding and support to wonderful rescues across Greece, who save lives like Chickpea's everyday.

Every year in Greece, countless pets are abandoned when their owners decide they no longer want them. For the animals left behind, this isn’t a fresh start – it’s often a death sentence.

Why?

🚫 Domestic animals are not equipped to survive on their own.

❌ Without proper shelter, food, or water, they suffer from starvation, dehydration, and extreme weather.

💔 They’re at risk of disease, injury, and predation.

What can be done instead:

✅ Reach out to local shelters or rescue organisations for help, here is a list of Greek animal welfare organisations: https://www.animalactiongreece.org/local-animal-welfare-organisations/

✅ Consider rehoming through reputable channels if you can no longer care for a pet.

✅ Plan ahead before adopting – pets are a lifetime commitment.

Remember, pets trust us with their lives. Let’s be their advocates, not their abandoners.

The numbers are in! ⬇️

Thanks to our incredible partners and supporters, our community cat care project is making a huge impact on the islands of Paros and Antiparos.

Here’s what we achieved in December:

🐱 164 cats sterilized — 77 females and 86 males.
🏷️ 168 cats microchipped.
💉 159 vaccinations administered.
💊 Deworming treatments provided to 167 cats.
🩺 23 cats treated for injuries and illness.

This brings our total to 3,967 cats neutered on the islands to date! 😱

Together, we’re curbing the overpopulation crisis and ensuring healthier lives for these cats.

A huge thanks to Battersea for their generous support, and to local animal welfare groups: Cats of Antiparos, Cats Eden in Paros-La banda di Casa Elea, Paroscat, PAWS - Paros Animal Welfare Society, Φιλοζωοι Εθελοντες Παρου (FEP Vet Centre), Κτηνιατρική Γωνιά - Veterinary Corner, and the Veterinary Center of PAROS.

The heartbreak doesn’t stop 💔

This beautiful cat was intentionally run over by a car on the island of Paros earlier this month.

He was picked up and immediately taken to a local vet for urgent surgery, where he unfortunately later passed away.

This is something our team on Paros & Antiparos regularly encounter, and it is truly sickening.

We are desperately working to end cruelty like this. But we need your help. If you witness animal cruelty, please speak up and report it. Together, we can make a difference.

We are deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic news of the poisoning of a pair of rare Golden Eagles and their chick in the Kompsatos River area of mountainous Xanthi.

Concern was raised when the satellite transmitters carried by the mother eagle and her female chick began transmitting from fixed points for an unusually long time.

A search mission by two Special Poisoned Bait Detection Units with trained dogs from Εταιρεία Προστασίας Βιοποικιλότητας Θράκης and Οργανισμός Φυσικού Περιβάλλοντος και Κλιματικής Αλλαγής-ΟΦΥΠΕΚΑ as well as the Xanthi Forestry confirmed the worst: all three had been poisoned.

The illegal use of poisoned baits has been outlawed in Greece since 1993, yet this cruel practice remains alarmingly common.

The loss of these Golden Eagles is not just a tragedy for wildlife but a stark reminder of the urgent need to tackle wildlife crime in Greece.

Let this tragedy serve as a call to action for stronger enforcement, public awareness, and collaboration to safeguard our endangered species. We can and must stop these senseless killings.

Tiny Ródi was found at the end of October by Syros Cats, lying by the side of the road in Kini. Barely alive, he was struggling to breathe due to bite wounds on his neck. These were possibly the result of an attack by another cat.

After veterinary treatment to reduce the swelling on his neck (which was making it almost impossible for him to eat) Syros Cats volunteers took it in turns to provide round-the-clock care.

There was not much hope that he would pull through, but he has proved to be a little fighter! 💪

By December, he had doubled his weight and was strong enough to have his first vaccine. This adorable little pomegranate (Ródi is the Greek for pomegranate!) is now a proper kitten—mischievous, playful, and very loving. He still has some way to go, but for now, things are looking good.

We’re proud to support Syros Cats, whose dedication gives hope and a second chance to kittens and cats across the area.

Today is Blue Monday, you say? 💙

Let’s turn that around with a story to bring a smile…

From cage ➡️ forever home ❤️

Olympus began his life among 600+ other stray dogs living in dire conditions on a landfill site in Xanthi.

Thankfully, he was rescued, but it took many months in kennels before he found a home to call his own.

After a long wait, we're very happy to share Olympus is now thriving in his forever home in Holland. 🏡 We couldn’t be happier for him!

Urgent Action Needed! 🚨

(Greek translation below)

We have been notified by the Dolphin Project that a permit has been submitted to transport up to five bottlenose dolphins from Attica Zoological Park in Athens to an aquarium in Florida, where they would be confined in concrete tanks and exploited for public shows once again. 😢

Not only is this transport risky, but there's a much more humane alternative: these dolphins could be relocated to a retirement facility on the Greek islands of Lipsi or Crete, where they can live in peace and dignity.

The public comment period is open until February 3, 2025.

Please take a moment to voice your opposition to this transfer and help protect these dolphins! 🐬

➡️ Submit your comment now: https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/NOAA-NMFS-2024-0140-0001

We are proud to stand alongside our long-term partner, Syros Cats, by providing funding to support their ongoing efforts to care for the many stray cats on the island of Syros.

Last year, they successfully sterilised 175 cats in the Kini area and beyond, a remarkable achievement!

A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to saving lives. 🐱

Special thanks to Emma Heggdal Brevik and June Woodward for the wonderful photos! 📸
