Talking pesky parasites in cats 🪱 🐈

Cats can get roundworm and tapeworm by accidentally eating their eggs, and it’s important to take preventative treatment by giving them a regular wormer.

Symptoms of worms include:

🐈 Weight loss
🐈 Eating more
🐈 Diarrhoea
🐈 Tapeworm segments (which look like grains of rice) in your cat’s poo

If you have any concerns or questions about worming your cat, get in touch.

🌾 Grass Seeds: A Hidden Summer Hazard! 🌾
Yesterday alone, we’ve seen three dogs affected by troublesome grass seeds – a common but serious problem this time of year.

🐾 Bertie the Shih Tzu had a grass seed lodged in his paw, making walking uncomfortable.
👂 Cooper the Cocker Spaniel and Josie the Poodle both had seeds stuck deep in their ears, causing pain and irritation.

Grass seeds may look harmless, but they can easily burrow into the skin, ears, eyes or paws, leading to swelling, infection and even needing surgical removal if not caught early.

🔍 What to watch for:

1. Head shaking or paw licking
2. Sudden limping
3. Swollen or red areas
4. Visible seeds caught in fur or toes

🚿 Top tips:

1. Check your dog’s ears, paws, armpits and coat after walks
2. Stick to shorter grass where possible
3. Regular grooming can help spot seeds early

If your pet shows any signs of discomfort after being outdoors, don’t wait — get in touch with us right away.

If you’ve got a more exotic companion at home, we’re here to help keep them happy and healthy too.

🐾 Saint’s Big Day! 🐾

This beautiful black kitten is Saint, who came to see us recently from Cats Protection for a few important procedures: he was castrated, microchipped, and tested for FeLV/FIV. All vital steps in preparing him for a happy and healthy life in a new home. 🏠

Why are these procedures so important?

✔️ Castration (neutering) helps prevent unwanted litters and can reduce roaming, spraying, and certain health risks.
✔️ Microchipping gives pets a permanent form of identification — it’s quick, safe, and hugely increases the chance of being reunited if they go missing.
✔️ FeLV/FIV testing helps identify viruses that affect a cat’s immune system, ensuring that any ongoing care or rehoming decisions are made in the best interest of the cat’s health.

Saint was a star patient and is now one step closer to finding his forever family thanks to the amazing work of Cats Protection. 🐈‍⬛💙

Let’s give Saint a virtual cuddle in the comments! 😻
