So much to consider as Autumn kicks in and Winter looms! Many owners think they should you leave their dogs coat longer in the Winter as they will feel the cold!

In reality the opposite is true.. A healthy coat cannot ‘work’ for your dog.
Most Dogs typically shed hair in the spring and autumn, the seasons when weather and light patterns change. This is known as seasonal shedding, and it's especially noticeable in dogs with double coats, like German shepherds, Siberian huskies, and Labrador retrievers. Though our warm homes can kick in and add to the issues as well. These dogs need regular and thorough washing and brushing to keep their coats healthy (and your homes cleaner).
My lurcher Gus sheds as much as Hairy Mary Nelly. So hard to keep on top of. My hoover is working overtime, I could stuff a pillow with the amount that comes off him and he's short haired!!
Other breeds owner decide to let it grow over winter... yikes can be such a mistake. When a dogs coat is left long it becomes hugely high maintenence for the owner. A coat that is left long in the winter is likely to become matted, as it will constantly be getting wet or damp after each walk. So to keep it healthy you would need to wash and dry the coat after every walk – and who has time for that??
It is much more sensible to keep your dogs coat short and manageable in the winter, easier to keep it clean and dry and be more comfortable for your dog – allowing air to circulate through the coat and avoiding long, matted, damp hair sitting against your dogs skin.
And your dog will be more comfortable in our cosy warm homes too. If you worry about wet and cold days there are huge selections of jumpers and coats around to keep them warm outside. But a healthy active dog is usually happy and warm rumning around outside.
So please consider the health of your dogs coat. Thick and matted is no use to the

Playful Pancho came for his first groom with us since he was a Pup. He is 2 now. He was such a lovely boy, we thought he might be super boisterous to groom. But was good as gold for Indre our level 3 Groomer. We had hoped to create a breed standard look but his coat had quite a few hidden knots, so it was agreed we would have a restart groom. We tried to keep his beard and crown but after some time trying, his owner agreed it wasn't fair on him. So short and sweet and a homework list for his lovely owner so we can all become #teamPancho. Need to get him used to 5 mins a day brushing so she can kerp a check for grass seeds, knots and ensure his ears are clean.
Watch this space as the months/year goes on and we start to get him back to breed standard.
We are opening grooming slots on Mondays and a few extra Saturdays, with our level 3 Junior to allow more of you the opportunity to visit Holly&Lil The Groomers. And with Indre offering up more slots, It frees up slots with our award winning Top Stylists too, whoohoo.
There may be other Groomers, they may be cheaper... but better than us in a happier environment ... we like to think NOT!(?)
And though it may be hot in the City, with our cool stone tiles and air conditioning your dog will be comfortable, whilst we get their coats beautiful and healthy.
