Back from the bank holiday break with a bang!💥 Introducing the newest members of The Collar Club… Eric and Duke! 🥰 These boys have settled in amazingly and it didn’t take them long to start making friends - today they joined the lovely Larry for a walk and all had a fabulous time! 🩷

A reminder that these warm temperatures can be extremely dangerous for our pets. Lots of useful tips here! ☀️🐶🐱🐰🐹

Summer has finally appeared! Read below for a few handy tips to keep your pets safe!

☀️Only walk them early morning and late evening NEVER during the hottest hours of the day (10am-8pm)

☀️Provide a cool matt/cool coat or a paddling pool 💦 Lots of different species will enjoy a cool matt - dogs, cats, bunnies can all make use of these under careful supervision (we don’t want them to chew it).

☀️ALWAYS provide plenty of fresh water 💧

☀️You can offer frozen treats - cats love a frozen lick-e-lix and a stuffed frozen kong tends to go down well for dogs

☀️ALWAYS provide access to a cool shaded area for them to chill

🐰A water filled and frozen old pop bottle can bring relief to bunnies & guineas who lay next to them.

🐰Be mindful of small animals in gardens - they are very sensitive to heat stress. Ensure they are always in shade - and remember shade moves! A nice well ventilated & cool garage would be ideal.

☀️ The most at risk animals are; young, old, overweight, pregnant and and our flat faced breeds 🐶. Some medical conditions can put your pet at higher risk of suffering with heat stress and heatstroke too

Other considerations;

⚠️ARTIFICIAL GRASS - gets much much much hotter than real lawns.

⚠️TARMAC AND PATIOS IN THE SUN - will also burn your pets paws as they dutifully plod beside you. If you can’t place the back of you hand on the surface for the count of 5 seconds it’s too hot!

⚠️We hope this last point is unnecessary but just incase…IT IS NOT OK TO LEAVE ANIMALS IN THE CAR. Temperatures rise extremely quickly in cars, leaving windows open is not enough to protect your pet.

🥵 BE HEATSTROKE AWARE. 🥵

Signs of heatstroke are as follows;
Drooling
Lethargy
Heavy panting/difficulty breathing
Excessive thirst
Sickness/diarrhoea
Staggering/wobbling
Collapse

Heatstroke can be fatal. If you think your pet has heatstroke do not delay! Phone your veterinary clinic ASAP!

As lots of you will know, I’ve spent the last six years studying part time towards a degree. After many mental breakdowns and two deferrals, I started to give up hope of ever completing it. I somehow managed to push through and in May this year I submitted my dissertation. Fast forward to today and I have just found out I am graduating with a ⭐️ FIRST CLASS HONOURS ⭐️ IN FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY! I was convinced there must have been a mistake but after checking and double checking, I can confirm it’s true! 😭 I’m absolutely over the moon! Thankyou so much to everyone who listened to my constant complaining and continued to encourage me when I didn’t think I could do it! 🩷
