The Branch has recently been made aware of a situation regarding a number of youths who are currently catching and transporting cats from around the Beaconsfield Road, Lowestoft area to the other side of town, leaving them in random places approx 2 or 3 miles away from their homes.

This has recently happened to a cat who was extremely lucky that they were found by their owner, very hungry and on the opposite side of the Gull Wing bridge from their home.

There have been other reports of cats from the same Beaconsfield Road area having gone missing, and we suspect the same situation may have happened to them, which is extremely distressing for both the cats, who have been displaced, and their owners.

If you happen to live in that area, and come across a new cat that you are unfamiliar with, who may be showing signs of distress and seems to be unfamiliar with the area, then please take the cat to a local vet and request that they be scanned for a microchip, in the hope that they can be reunited with their owner.

Please also contact the branches Lost and Found team on email [email protected], so that we can post the cats details on our social media pages in the hope that we can also reunite them with their owner.

Please find below some advice on what to do should you find an unknown cat in your area:

* Ensure the cat is indeed lost!
* If the cat is friendly and in good condition it may belong to someone.
* Ask neighbours if their cat is missing
* Put up posters locally
* Ascertain, if possible, the s*x of the cat and estimate its age.
* Take note of cat's colour and whether it has a collar
* If possible take to a vet to see if it has a microchip
* Notify vets, Cats Protection Anglia Coastal and other agencies
* Please offer the cat food and water and some shelter until help arrives.

Lastly, these incidences are a good time to mention that as of 10th June 2024 it will become law and mandatory for all cats in England to be microchipped.

Owners found without their cat microchipped will have just 21 days to have a chip implanted, or failure to do so may result in a £500 fine! Last week we had Phoebe staying with us. Her owner told us she was abandoned outside a vets when she was a few days old and had to be hand reared. She was such a friendly sweet little girl who loved lots of fuss!
