Fencing... you either love it or hate it..
Today we're replacing some posts that have gone rotten.
Step 1. Get the new posts in .. easier said than done as the ground was so hard! So we bring in the big toys! 💪🚜
Step 2. Use the 7 tonne JCB to push in the posts...Well push them in as much as we could.. did I mention the ground was hard 🤔
Step 3. Loose all feeling in forearms nailing in these U shaped nails to reattatch the wire to the new posts. 🔨
ALL DONE ... NOW NEED A NEW RIGHT ARM 👍

Harvest time: broccoli 🥦, sweetcorn 🌽, tomatoes 🍅, cucumber 🥒, chillis 🌶, peppers 🫑, and eggs 🥚! We've had an amazing season with sunflower seeds , red currants, black currants, gooseberries, rhubarb, blackberries, strawberries, and peas so far!.... No expertise needed, just experimentation! From humble beginnings (I started in old feed buckets) to a large polytunnel and raised beds. Give homegrowing a try or buy local – you won't regret it! 🤤💕

Winter jobs have begun 🪵
We chop up our fallen trees from around the farm to use over winter. We are so lucky to have a woodburner with a back boiler. This means we can use the heat from the fire to heat our radiators and make hot water for the whole house, That's free hot baths and showers all over winter. It's hard work chopping and throwing them in the wood shed but my two little helpers love it. Hopefully its a while till we have to light a fire though!! 🔥

Here are some interesting facts:
*Red deer are the largest native land mammal in the UK!
*Only stags (males) grow antlers, which are shed annually in late winter and regrow in spring.
*Red deer primarily inhabit moorlands, mountainsides, and grasslands near woodlands, feeding mainly on grasses, sedges, rushes, and dwarf shrubs like heather.
*A single calf is typically born in late spring (May or June) after an approximately 8-month gestation period.
