Soft tissue release helps dogs after surgery or when managing medical conditions by reducing muscle tension, improving flexibility, and promoting healing. After surgery, muscles can become tight and sore, limiting movement and slowing recovery. Soft tissue release techniques, such as gentle massage and stretching, relieve these tensions, allowing for better circulation and faster healing.
For dogs with chronic conditions like arthritis or hip dysplasia, it helps reduce pain, improve range of motion, and maintain muscle health. By targeting specific problem areas, soft tissue release supports overall mobility, reduces discomfort, and improves the dog’s quality of life during recovery or treatment.
Buoyancy while swimming greatly benefits dogs' joints by reducing the pressure and weight placed on them. In water, dogs experience less gravitational force, allowing their bodies to move more freely without straining their joints or causing discomfort.
This is especially helpful for dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia, or recovering from surgery, as it enables gentle exercise without impact. The support of water allows for a wider range of motion, improving joint flexibility and strength while minimizing pain. Swimming in a controlled environment also helps build muscle around the joints, enhancing stability and overall mobility in a low-impact way.

🐾 What owners see when bringing their dog to hydrotherapy?
Their dogs enjoying their session, moving freely and comfortable!
🐾 What does a hydrotherapist see when we swim your dog?
We are constantly looking at the range of movement in each joint, how does it compare to the other side, or what is normal for this particular dog and how does that compare with the ‘normal’ range for that breed/ size/ age? How much are they using their legs? We will do certain things to improve movement, tricks of the trade to get them moving better and using limbs better.
How much are they using their core? Are they lazy going round corners which may show weakness in particular areas? Do they power round a corner or are they drifting? Also are they favouring one side, which side is more comfortable for them? This may show areas to improve!
This is just a tiny amount that goes through our heads while your dog is swimming! We manipulate the session to tailor it to your dog so they get the best from their treatment!

When treating your dog, we always look at how we can improve their balance, coordination, condition and general fitness.
We treat many dogs who have ongoing issues but we also do have dogs who are medically sound. Improving these niggles and strengthening and conditioning in the correct way means less chance of issues arising later in life.
We do little things to help your dog get the best out of swimming, this can be prevention of rolling in the water, encouragement to use their back legs properly and also engage their core. All of these mean that they get the best out of their swim and go on to be better for it.
Your dogs health is important to us!
This wonderful boy loves his swimming, I have never met a dog like him, such a character.
