Passionate about creating a practice based around our values of clinical excellence and committed care in a practical, compassionate manner, Heath Equine Practice was formed by co directors Merete Hass, Kathy Duncan and Jo Miles in December 2020. We are an independent veterinary practice, something we are fiercely proud of. We are delighted to be building our practice around our personal principle

The relationship with our clients is held with utmost importance and we are committed to providing a warm, professional and honest service to you. As an ambulatory team we have invested in state of the art portable diagnostic equipment ensuring that we can provide clinical excellence conveniently at your premises. We are privileged to be trusted with the care of a large number of horses. These range from elite racehorses to elderly ponies, and of course our beloved donkeys! We are passionate about treating each one as the unique individuals they are and as if they were our own.

There’s been another birthday in the team this week, this time it was our brilliant Ashley’s turn. 🎂🎉🎈

Ashley is our lovely administrator and the bubbly, happy voice that many of you will know from calling the practice! 😁

We love an excuse for cake (and questionable singing!) in the Heath office and always make sure we have a little celebration for birthdays 🥰 I’m sure you will all join us in sending best wishes to Ashley.

It’s is a special birthday for our wonderful vet Gemma today as she turns 30!! 🥰🎂🎉🎈❤️

We had a little party on Friday to start the celebrations. Gem does an absolutely brilliant job of looking after all of her clients and patients and I’m sure you will all join us in wishing her a fantastic birthday 💕

Today is International Womens Day, so we’d like to shout out to our incredible team of women at Heath Equine Vets - Jo, Merete, Kathy, Elen, Sharon, Geri, Siobhan, Laura, Ashley, Jess, Gemma and Emily - they really are the best team and we are so lucky to work together.

We also wouldn’t be able to do our jobs or enjoy them half as much if it wasn’t for all of the other amazing, inspirational women that we are privileged to work with….

We are really delighted to introduce you to the newest member of our team, our new Veterinary Assistant Emily Collins!

Emily has been with us a couple of weeks now and so some of you will have already met her on visits. Emily has masses of experience with horses and in the equine veterinary field and so we feel very lucky to welcome her to our team.

Vet Geri and Vet Nurse Gena were recently called to assist in a dramatic visit to help assist a horse that had fallen into a swimming pool.

Karate, had managed to escape from her field and found herself in trapped in the disused pool. The fire brigade and large animal rescue services were called to assist and with Geri’s and Gena’s expertise Karate was sedated and winched from the pool. The rescue was complex and involved multiple people working together in order to remove Karate safely.

We are delighted to report that Karate has made an excellent recovery and we are very grateful to her owners for allowing us to share her story.

⛄️❄️🌨 SNOW DAY TIPS🌨❄️☃️ Here are some useful tips for the bad weather days: 1. Apply grease such as Cornucrescine and Vaseline and pick feet out frequently to reduce snow build up. 🐎 2. Feed mash or soaked hay to help reduce the risk of impaction colic. 🍽🥣 3. If you soak your hay, don’t stop! Pouring warm water over the soaked net will melt the ice and it can still be fed. 🫖 4. If you have a laminitic or sugar-sensitive horse, avoid turnout on frozen grass. 🥶 5. Use plenty of sand or salt on frozen paths. 🧂 6. Rug according to how cold your horse feels, not how cold you feel. 🔥 📸 We would love to see your snow day photos! To start to us off here is our Vet Hannah’s Shetland, Pumpkin enjoying the snow!!

🎂🎉🎉🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎂 We can’t quite believe it but today marks the 1st birthday of Heath Equine Veterinary Practice!! Merete has been on duty at the Pony Club Racing Day at Haydock Park Racecourse today. A fantastic day for all aspiring young jockeys and brilliantly organised! It was great to see lots of local faces too! Well done to everyone who competed 👏🏼

We can’t quite believe it, it has absolutely flown by, but when we think about it we realise we’ve been fairly busy in that time…. We set up a new business during a global pandemic and Brexit - not for the faint hearted! We got our first delivery of medicines and realised it was all for real! We’ve driven approximately 30,000 miles We’ve spent endless hours on the phone to each other We’ve welcomed four fantastic new team members to the practice We’ve also welcomed three new automobile team members (our trucks and Bernice the Berlingo!) We’ve met so many new people and made lots of new friends (including so many gorgeous dogs, puppies, goats, cats, ducks…...) We’ve represented at Women In Veterinary Leadership events We’ve vetted multiple horses and ponies for you to welcome into your lives We’ve celebrated some big wins as well as small but significant ones with our clients We’ve discovered the pure joy and genius of heated gilets! We’ve had patients fly across the world to compete internationally We’ve driven through snow, sleet, storms and vetted in glorious in sunshine We’ve seen our patients storm past us whilst on duty at point to points We’ve been guest writers in equine magazines We’ve cheered for our racing clients who have had multiple successes on the race track including a Royal Ascot winner and a good few trebles and doubles along the way! We’ve sutured horses back together, treated colics, lasered sarcoids, fixed lamenesses, taken teeth out, tended to nasty injuries and screwed a fractured leg back together as well as many other surgeries.
