🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Bactocell🎉
For 25 years, Bactocell (Pediococcus acidilactici CNCM I-4622) has been a trusted probiotic solution for improving layer welfare and productivity. 🐔
From stronger bones to better eggshell quality, our lactic acid bacteria product has stood the test of time, delivering benefits across all production systems and breeds.
💡 Proven results include:
✅ A 33% reduction in bird mortality
✅ Improved feed conversion rates (+3.1%)
✅ A 21% drop in broken egg rates
Here’s to 25 years of supporting farmers and more resilient, productive hens!
For more information on including Bactocell in feed rations, speak to your nutritionist or contact us today.
10/12/2024
A new meta-analysis of 62 global trials has confirmed the probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici CNCM I-4622 (Bactocell) significantly improves keel bone health and eggshell quality, even during extended laying cycles.
By supporting efficient calcium absorption and metabolism, Bactocell helps hens maintain optimal bone health while producing thicker, more resilient eggshells. This is crucial during later lay, as egg size increases and calcium metabolism decreases with age.
Proven benefits include:
✅ Fewer keel bone issues
✅ Better eggshell resilience
✅ Improved productivity
For producers looking to extend laying cycles while safeguarding hen welfare, Bactocell is a trusted solution. Talk to your nutritionist or contact us to learn more.

Dairy farmers, are you due a transition management review? 🐄
Setting your cows up for success starts in the dry period.
Lallemand feed additive product manager Mark McFarland shares his top advice:
“You want to prepare cows to double their dry matter intake as soon as possible after calving.
“To do that, the focus during the dry period should be on the rumen and its microbiota.
“This creates a positive feedback loop - as well as transitioning the cow.”
How are you helping your cows to maintain rumen balance for a successful transition?
21/11/2024
Ladies, start your engines…. 🐄
Did you spot our feed additive product manager, Mark McFarland in magazine recently?
He explained exactly why priming the rumen prior to calving is so important to support transition cow health, fertility and productivity. ✅
“The aim is to prime the cow’s ‘engine’ ready for lactation,” he says.
“This means focusing on the whole rumen – the bugs,
their environment (rumen pH) and the rumen wall.
“Feeding a rumen-specific live yeast like Levucell SC can maintain the rumen’s balance by preventing the ‘loss’ of fibre-digesting microbes.
“This will help the cow manage the switch to a
higher-concentrate ration and mitigate the risk of pH
fluctuations and acidosis.”

During a challenging maize-growing season, many crops have been cut as low to the ground as possible to get maximum tonnes per acre. 🌽
But this collects more of the maize plant’s base, where nitrate concentration is naturally higher.
❗This can lead to high nitrate levels in maize silage, posing a potential risk to livestock health.
To help reduce this risk, it’s recommended to:
✔️ wait at least 3-4 weeks after ensiling to feed the fresh silage, as ensiling reduces nitrates by around 40%
✔️ use crop- and condition-specific inoculant Magniva Platinum Maize Elite for fast and efficient fermentation
✔️ test nitrate levels before feeding the silage
✔️ introduce the fresh silage slowly into the ration

Stay safe from silo-gas 🌽
If maize was harvested before it was fully mature, at harvest the plant contains nitrogen in the soluble form of nitrates.
These nitrates are then converted to nitrous oxide and subsequently to nitrous dioxide in the silage clamp.
❗Beware: nitrous dioxide – also called silo gas – is toxic to humans and livestock.
Watch our recent reels explaining all you need to know about silo gas to stay safe!

The transition period can be a tough time for dairy cows, marked by major dietary shifts and increased metabolic demands. That’s why it’s crucial to support rumen health.
Levucell SC, the rumen-specific live yeast, helps maintain a balanced microbiota and boosts feed intakes and milk production, minimising body condition loss. Prioritise feeding and drinking space and provide fresh palatable forage to ensure your cows thrive during this challenging time🌾🐄

End of the 19th century: Lallemand was founded in Montreal by a young immigrant from Alsace: Fred Shurer. Since his name was difficult to pronounce for his fellow citizens, he was nicknamed “Lallemand”, which is the French for “the German.” He kept the name and gave it to the company. In 1923, Fred started producing baker’s yeast in the Préfontaine Street plant in Montreal, which is still in operation today, to supply the North American baking industry.
1952: The Chagnon family purchased Lallemand, moving the company forward from a baker’s yeast producer to a major player in the development and production of specific yeast and bacteria strains, serving markets such as baking, beer brewing, oenology, spirits, biofuels, plant care, food, human health, pharmaceuticals, and animal nutrition. The company practically grew from yeast to become a global leader in microbial fermentation.
Today, Lallemand is globally present with more than 30 yeast and bacteria production plants. With more than 4,000 employees around the world, the group has an active business presence on all five continents.
…to a leader in animal nutrition and well-being
Lallemand entered the animal nutrition sector in the late 1980s, with the production of bacteria for silage inoculants and probiotics, first in Europe, with the acquisition of the first bacteria plant of the group in France (Aurillac) in 1988. Then, in North America with the acquisition of Milwaukee bacteria plant dedicated to animal nutrition in 1998.
Lallemand Animal Nutrition was born!
From the early days, Lallemand Animal Nutrition was driven by science, establishing its first long-lasting research partnership with INRA team in Clermont-Ferrand dedicated to ruminant research in 1989 and growing its network of research partnerships ever since.
Today, Lallemand Animal Nutrition employs more than 400 people across all continents and is a key player in forage preservation and the nutrition and well-being of ruminants, swine, poultry, aquaculture, equine and pets.
Some milestones in animal nutrition innovations
1995: Registration of ruminant and monogastric specific probiotic strains in Europe
1996: First bacteria for forage aerobic stability application (buchneri NCIMB 40788; Biotal)
2008: First patented microencapsulation technology for live yeast (Titan)
2009: First probiotic bacteria strain authorized in the EU for aquaculture
2016: First formulated multi-strain yeast fractions product
2018: First positive biofilm product developed for the animal environment
