I have worked using essential oils, herbs, hydrosols and nutritional powders with dogs, so they may self select their way back to health for years but this qualification has really helped me to help the animals on a much deeper level.
I am so proud to be an APA practioner 😊

Zoopharmacognosy helps our dogs (and their humans) to achieve balance physically, emotionally, behaviourally and energetically.
If you need more info just give me a call.

Maybe they are meant for us, the journey we are on. They help us grow patience, compassion, empathy. They make us look at ourselves more deeply.

Or maybe they are showing us a path we are destined to go down.
When we look this way at situations that challenge us it can sometimes help us make more sense of them.

šŸ¤ If your groomer is routinely expressing your dog’s a**l glands, it could be doing more harm than good.

In healthy dogs, these glands should empty naturally during bowel movementsšŸ’©ā€”not by force. Repeated squeezing can traumatize the delicate ducts, which can lead to chronic inflammation, scar tissue that can affect the gland’s proper function, and long-term damage.

Even worse, every manual expression carries the risk of introducing bacteria🦠 and triggering infection. Unless there’s a medical reason, it’s best to leave healthy glands alone.

But here’s the thing: when those glands don’t empty naturally - and you start noticing that fishy odor🤢 - it’s usually a sign there’s a deeper issue.

Without enough pressure during a bowel movement, those glands don’t empty like they’re supposed to — and that leads to inflammation, impactions, and in some cases, full-on infections.

What’s causing those mushy poops in the first place? Often, it’s a mix of:
🄦 Low-fiber diets
šŸ— Food sensitivities (like chicken, beef, or dairy)
🦠 Gut microbiome imbalance
šŸ¤ Routine expression at the groomer

If your dog is struggling with soft stool:ļæ½Add a small dose of slippery elm or psyllium husk to your dog’s meals — it can help bulk up stool and encourage the glands to empty on their own.

🄣 Start with ¼ tsp for small dogs and increase up to 1 tsp for large breeds, based on size. Always introduce slowly, and always ensure plenty of hydration!šŸ’§

This Sunday at 12pm EST, we’re unpacking everything you need to know about a**l gland health — and how to fix it. We’ll cover home remedies, anti-inflammatory supplements, and Dr. Becker’s protocols for infection, impaction and more! PLUS all of the information from this episode, with dosages and recipes, will be available in a downloadable PDF on the Inside Scoop group page!

Please watch this...there are so many natural alternatives to rid an animal of patasites. Think Neem, Diatomaceous Earth, essential oils and of course a species specific diet to ensure a strong immune system, so that our pets can fight off any potential invasions.
There's no need to be putting these poisons on to our animals, our children, ourselves and into our environment.
And please don't be fooled into thinking the alternative is to give them a flea treatment tablet. This is poison going into our animals to make them poisonous to the parasites.
Get in touch if you need advice on alternatives.

Finally...please stop using these chemicals, there are natural alternatives if necessary but in the most part, if your animal is on a good, species specific diet and healthy, they shouldn't attract such critters. Medicating as a preventative is so dangerous not just to the environment but to our animals too. And please avoid the alternative treatment they're now offering to our animals which they have to ingest, poisoning our animals from the inside 😢

The standard practice in the UK is to advise a preventative approach, treating pets every couple of months even if they don’t have fleas.

But flea treatments include powerful insecticides that have been found to leach off pet fur – and the hands of their owners – into waterways. A recent study also found that songbirds are inadvertently killing their young by making nests out of contaminated pet fur.

There is growing concern about the impact these treatments are having on biodiversity. Imidacloprid and fipronil, for example, are powerful insecticides: one monthly flea treatment for a large dog contains enough imidacloprid to kill 25 million bees.

šŸ¦‹Read. That. Again.šŸ¦‹ Plants are not *alternative* medicine; they are the *original* medicine.

For centuries, cultures worldwide have understood what modern science is now proving—plants are intelligent, conscious beings capable of seeing, feeling, and communicating. From the mayapple, which plans its growth two years in advance based on weather patterns, to how plants warn their neighbors of danger, they are far more than passive organisms.

Research from luminaries like Goethe, George Washington Carver, and Nobel Prize-winner Barbara McClintock reveals the deep intelligence of plants. 🌿Plant neurobiology shows that their capacity for ā€œbrain-likeā€ activity is far more developed than we ever imagined. Plants even produce neurotransmitters similar to those in our bodies, neurochemicals that predate human evolution by millions of years.

As we celebrate , we honor Indigenous herbalists’ profound contributions to health and healing. šŸ’™Their ancient wisdom has laid the groundwork for many modern medical advancements. Indigenous peoples introduced key medicinal plants like echinacea and goldenseal, and their holistic healing approaches have shaped the principles of mindfulness and emotional well-being in today’s practices.

🫚From the discovery of natural pain relievers to the understanding of plant synergies and the promotion of preventive medicine, Indigenous knowledge continues to influence modern herbalism. Their sustainable harvesting practices and commitment to honoring the Earth serve as a vital reminder for us all.ā¤ļø
