It was great to see so many people and their dogs enjoying themselves at the Dogs Day in John Leigh Park today. The showers weren’t allowed to spoil the fun and games had by all.
More success this morning, for Kathryn with Dougal and Dennis with Dexter who both achieved their Kennel Club silver award. Here they are with Pam who assessed them as at the level required. Very well done to both of them.

💜💜There’s a Food Festival taking place in the park this coming Saturday, 18th May. It begins at 10.00 so parking, especially for the classes at 10.30, may be more difficult than usual. We’ll be there so we hope to see you at your usual class time. 💜💜

Sorry, but we’ve had to cancel training tomorrow. 😢The weather’s got the better of us again and the courts are covered in snow. The assessments which were due to take place tomorrow will happen next week, January 27th, so you get an extra week to practice😉. See you next week

Meet the puppies! These magnificent 7 belong to Kim’s puppy class every Saturday at 10.30. We have: Astrid, Toy Poodle 4 months old watches and listens Finn, Bearded Collie 6 months old excitable and bouncy Littermates Luna and Narla, 3 months old playful and friendly Fred, Red Fox Labrador 4 months old playful and quiet Sally, Staffordshire Bull Terrier 7.5 months playful strong girl Bella, Labrador 4 months old taking everything in relaxed girl

Jaeger (right) and Luna (left) are both in our Advanced (Gold Kennel Club) Class that meet on a Saturday morning. Instructed by our trainer, Jean, the dogs are taken through ‘Distance Control’ which basically means they either sit, stand or lie down following their owner’s verbal and hand instruction. Distance control takes a lot of practice and trust. Remember these are older, advanced dogs but this is why we teach the pups basic positions early on!
We took the opportunity after this morning’s class to video Haku 🐾 With clear instructions from our trainer Jean (off camera), Haku does a lovely ‘sit wait’ followed by a front recall to his owner 👏 7-month old Haku is improving week-by-week and it’s a pleasure to train this gentle giant 🐶
Recalling a dog with distractions! We hold our classes on a secure, enclosed tennis court so it’s a safe place to practice off lead recalls and reinforce the ‘come’ command. This exercise builds on the basic recall by adding distractions into the mix. We ask the handlers to walk in and out of each other as a group with their dogs on a lead. Then, one by one, we ask the handler to pass their dog (still on a lead) over to the instructor and then run away! At a distance, the handler recalls their dog away from the group/distractions at which point the instructor takes the dog’s lead off. You are competing with a lot of environmental temptations but your dog will find you - eventually - as this video shows 🥰 Reward the recall with loads of praise!
