Do you ever have a day or a few that you want to run for the hills, to scream and shout about why things have to be the way they are?
That’s how we are feeling tonight, the never ending calls, people needing help, strays, sick little ones, being put to sleep in pounds, it just never ends.
We have always had a low return rate because we are careful about where we home, all of our animals are precious and we only want the best.
A dog coming back from last year, they had a baby, no time anymore oh and they have bought a new house with no enclosed garden, another after many months because everyone is stressed, 1 pup who left at 14 weeks old, a blank canvas, returned due to separation anxiety, she jumped in the kitchen window and smashed some plates, she didn’t have separation anxiety when she left, no advice sought from a behaviourist or puppy training.
I had to pull her through the gate, I sat with her and cried while her owner drove off, she vomited everywhere.
Do you know how it is for a dog with separation anxiety? Because guess what, your dog you dumped back has had to learn to adjust pretty quickly to time alone as we share our love with all who are here.
The 11 year old dog who the owners just “grew out of” he wasn’t ours to begin with, life got busy for them, children came. He’s been with us for 3 months and not 1 text after 11 years of unconditional love to ask how their boy is.
Incase your reading and you have any compassion, we couldn’t love him more if we tried.
Another dog rehomed and 24 hours later they phoned to say it wasn’t working out “he wasn’t for them” he growled and showed his teeth.
9 months old, exhausted, overwhelmed, his whole world changed.
Time to settle? No just send him back.
Not everyone cares so little though , we also have the pleasure of meeting some beautiful souls.
Those who no matter what keep on loving, you are who keeps us strong.
This has been a tough few days, so many little faces and a few not so little, a mum yesterday, skeletal with 8 beautiful babies not even a week old and passed pillar to post.
Tonight she’s safe.
Another call today, an extremely thin girl, no milk, 6 puppies born today, cuts on her bedraggled body, rescued by a gentleman who cared enough to help her, we have called her Hope, another mouth to feed and another 1/2 hour to find in a day.
We wouldn’t change it though.
Please please think on when you decide your pet would be better off with someone that has more time, more space, more anything because their love is unconditional, they don’t just love you until a baby comes, until you grow out of them, they don’t just love you until things change, you get a different job, move house or like the call a few days ago just grew old and started going to the toilet in the house, they give you their everything.
You are their world.
Sometimes things genuinely change, and life does happen and sometimes you have to give up and that too is ok, but make sure you do right, talk to the rescues, wait for a space.
Or better still speak to a behaviourist, ask for help, there’s lots out there.
You never need to feel alone.
From a tired team tonight here’s a picture of beautiful hope with her new babies, new life, hopefully they will make it through, we can’t promise they will but we will try our best.
Keep loving your pets, because they love you with all of their being 💕
