I thought I would start the day of the dead celebrations remembering our family cat Cleo.
From the moment she met the dogs back in 2003 she was feisty and brave. She was always tiny but she didn’t care and would often take anything big or small on. She may have been small, but she was mighty. She was very bossy to begin with, typical cat with attitude, demanding food and shouting the loudest, but as she got older she became incredibly loving and very gentle, especially with Ceinwyn and Morgan as they grew. And more so after she’d had a fight with another cat which resulted in a very painful abscess on her tail which popped! When she came back from the vets she loved everyone and everything!!
She was part of our family for nearly 11 years and she created and was part of many memories in our home.
Cleo would often sit on the window sill and chirp at the birds, if anything got stuck to her head, she would manically run round until we managed to remove it, and she would bring her ‘prizes’ in and often play just with their heads!! But most of all she adored our golden retriever Poppy

Please send me your stories and memories so we can celebrate together x
I recently discovered that celebrations for The Day of the Dead in South America, also includes animals. I thought immediatly how beautiful this was and just had to make a big thing of it.
As well as helping people with their grief and loss, I am here to celebrate all our pet companions, large or small, furry or scaley, feathering or slimey. And I think this is the perfect opportunity!
The Day of The DeaD is a celebration that originated with the Aztecs and we most commonly see it now in Mexico, though it is in many other places in South America.
You may have seen the drawings and paintings of skeletons often decorated in bright clothing or bright colours on the skulls. This is not meant to be scary; it is about celebrating the love we had for our family and friends and remembering them.
Over the coming weeks leading up to 2nd November, we are going to be not highlighting just how lovely the day of the dead can be, but also sharing stories and photos of our amazing animal companions that are no longer physically around us.
And that is where you come in; I have plenty of stories to share, but that would be being a little selfish. I want to hear about yours too. I would love it if you would send me a story (and a photo if you have one) that I can put on here and share to the world the memories of these animals. It doesnt have to be long, it can be a couple of lines, a memory, a snap shot in your lives together. In your own words. Then I will share them each day on here.
I hope your join in with this wonderful celebration and I will tell you more of what we can do as the main day approaches and what other people do.
