What an absolute beauty this boy is. Meet Rolo!!

I was called out by Rolos owners as a matter of urgency due to really excessive biting/nipping behaviours. He has had a rough start for a pup, having been in three homes already.

It’s really clear that Rolo has a fantastic work drive, today we put that to good use and boy did he learn quickly 🤩

Rolo’s owners put their trust in me to help them after reaching out to a trainer in the past which left them in the same position. We started our session with the possibility of rehome but ended on happy tears and Rolo being a super star pup ⭐️

What a rewarding process our session was today 🥰

Rolo’s journey has just begun and I can’t wait to continue supporting him and his family ⭐️🐾

Quiet day today due to the weather but that wasn’t stopping us meeting the lovely Rosie and her human mum 💜🐾

For Rosie’s initial one-to-one session today we focused on engagement skills, playing lots of fun games at home to build engagement. We then looked at Rosie’s lead walking skills. Rosie has a tendency to cross behind her mum a lot when out walking to investigate smells, to help prevent this and make walks a little less tangle free we focused on reward placement, walking speed, and also putting a sniff on cue. Giving Rosie plenty of sniffing breaks.👃

It was a pleasure to work with you both today. Keep up the great work, I can’t wait to see you again for another session. 🐶🐾

A big issue for many walking their dogs on leads (for any one of a number of reasons) can be uncontrolled loose dogs running up to their dogs. Three of the most common reasons are shown in the image - an older dog who may be hurt in an over-enthusiastic and excitable greeting, a dog recovering from illness/injury/surgery, and a dog who is scared - perhaps the victim of a previous dog attack.

There is a misconception that 'good' dogs will love all other dogs and, if in a public area, should be prepared to play and interact with any other dog in the area. The truth is that, just as we are, most dogs are at least a little selective in who they want to interact with. They will show this in their body language which - subtle as it may be to humans - a socially competent dog will be able to read and respect.

The problem is that these 'good' and 'friendly' dogs as their humans perceive them are generally not actually all that socially competent, and don't respect those subtle signals asking for space and to be left alone. They can keep pushing and pushing until the on lead dog (who is not able to avoid them because they are on lead and can't get away) feels they have no choice but to defend themselves. And then it's often the poor on-lead dog who is labelled as 'bad' when they were just trying to get out of the scary situation.

An off lead dog should not be allowed to approach unknown on-lead dogs. If you see your dog approaching an on-lead dog, call your dog back and keep them close by, either by calling them to heel or putting them on the lead. For the sake of everyone's enjoyment of the space you are in, keep your dog under control for the few minutes it takes to give the on-lead dog space, and then carry on.

If your dog cannot be called back from approaching an on-lead dog, they are not ready to be off-lead in a public place. Use a longline while working on strengthening their recall around distractions - for their own safety, as well as that of the other dogs around.

Weather Warning ⚠️

Good morning Walk & Train clients

I am making the decision to cancel my Walk & Trains today due to the really high winds. It is the first time iv ever had to do this but your dogs safety is to important.

Your dogs safety is my top priority and whilst walking in wind may not pose many obvious risks I have to think of the possibility of trees falling, dogs being slightly more anxious when walking in the wind, and driving a van on country roads to get to you with the possibility of fallen trees.

I apologise wholeheartedly for this last minute decision but safety must come first.

Anyone that has already paid me for today can roll that payment over onto next week or receive a full refund within 24 hours.

Please stay safe and enjoy your weekend.

Are you considering Muzzle Training your dog?

There doesn’t have to be a reason why, it might just be a skill you’d like your dog to have for those just in case moments.

It could be a necessity, due to breed legislation laws.

Your dog might resource guard and pick up unsafe items on walks, making the walk stressful for you both and a safety issue should your dog pick something up that isn’t safe.

Your dog may have a high pray drive.

Your dog may be a bite risk, whether it be out of excitement, fair or aggression.

There is so many other reasons I haven’t listed here!!

Muzzle Training can be really beneficial for your dogs future. We are working hard to vanish the sigma around muzzles. Helping owners understand just how important they are in our dogs learning.

If you’d like guidance on how to safely introduce the muzzle to your dog we offer video call consultations at just £20. In the session you’ll be able to visually follow step by step methods demonstrated with my own dogs, you’ll be guided on what steps to take next and the importance of going at your dog’s pace. You’ll also receive WhatsApp support for two weeks following our call.

To book your session please WhatsApp me on 07540577797 📞

❌Harnesses MAKE your dog pull ❌ NO THEY DO NOT!! Harnesses help us have a less confrontational walk with our dogs, they allow them freedom of movement and most of all if they do pull, they keep your dogs neck free from damage. It is possible to teach your dog loose lead walking while they wear a harness. To achieve loose lead walking we need no equipment at all!! 🫶

Have we worked with you recently? Please take a few seconds to leave us a review. It is so appreciated 🥰🐾

Here’s a little training video of how I start my Whistle foundation training with my Walk and Train dogs. I like to teach a whistle recall when teaching your dogs myself as it transfers a lot easier person to person. The whistle I use is an Acme 210.5. This is Digby’s first Walk & Train with me 🥰
