The Royal Veterinary College in London (RVC) is looking for horses or ponies that have been tested for PPID (Equine Cushing’s disease) within the last 1-3 months. Please share with your clients, friends, colleagues to help the RVC with the research.

The RVC has launched a two-year long study where researchers will use a recently developed quality of life (QoL) assessment tool to monitor the QoL of horses and ponies newly diagnosed with PPID and those of a similar age that have tested negative for PPID.

Owners who wish to participate can sign up for the study at: https://rvc.uk.com/PPID-survey-2023-stage1

More information about the study can be found at: https://www.rvc.ac.uk/research/projects/objective-assessment-of-the-quality-of-life-of-equines-with-pituitary-pars-intermedia-dysfunction

INFORMATION ABOUT PRESCRIPTIONS AND LONG TERM MEDICATION.

Our governing body, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) state that only a Veterinary Surgeon may prescribe or dispense medicines to an animal.

We may only dispense medicines to animals under our care which means that we must examine our patients on a regular basis to comply with the law. This ensures we prescribe the right medicine at the right dose for that particular condition and horse and can monitor for any long term adverse side effects. As a result we will need to see any horse on long term medication every 6 months.

The same applies for written prescriptions to enable you to purchase medicines from a pharmacy. All requests for a prescription need to be given with at least 2 working days notice to allow the Veterinary Surgeon time to issue them.

Prescription Pandemonium: Why we insist on seeing you pet back for prescription checks

Prescription Checks... most of our clients understand that these are necessary check ups to touch base with our veterinary team, to perform a physical health check, to check for any new concerns, to perform monitoring diagnostic tests and to check weight of our pets before the Veterinary Surgeon prescribes more medications.

However, on occasion veterinary professionals come up against resistance to revisits despite it being in the best interest of the patient.

Why?

The last two years have been challenging for all businesses, but the coming months look set to present new challenges with the increase in energy prices. Therefore, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop our free call-out fee on a Wednesday. We will honour any Wednesday visits already booked in. We are also happy to accommodate shared visits to reduce visit fees wherever possible. Thank you, our lovely clients for your continued support.

To All Our Clients,

Robin and I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support following the sad passing of our dear receptionist Liz. Your words and thoughts mean so much.

For the time being, it would be very helpful if all non urgent calls to the office are made between 10am and 2pm and I will do my best to assist. Robin is available for calls and emergencies as normal.
I am also available to respond to emails.

Also, please can we ask, where possible that invoices are paid via BACS transfer CLEARLY STATING YOUR NAME AS REFERENCE so payments can be allocated correctly.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

Sara and Robin

It is with very deep sadness that we have to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Liz, our very special receptionist. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Please bear with us at this very difficult time.
Liz’s partner Tony has asked to pass on funeral arrangements once they are available for anybody wishing to pay their respects.

A message for our clients. Due to our office Internet being down since Friday’s storm and staff illness, all phone calls are being diverted through to Robin’s mobile. Please bear with him as he is out on visits and is doing his best to catch up with answer phone messages. Sorry for any inconvenience.
