👩🏼‍🎓MEET THE TEAM🧠

Introducing Polly! Polly joins us as the latest member of the farm support team. Her week will be spent working in both our Lutterworth and Melton Mowbray branches assisting clients and vets with queries, orders and visits.

Polly grew up in Bedfordshire but has recently relocated to Northampton. Growing up she spent a lot of time on her grandparents beef and sheep farm. And now spends time during the winter months at her Aunt’s farm helping the reindeer.

She holds a BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Science after graduating in 2023 from Hartpury University. This degree has given Polly immense knowledge in animal production following lectures on the universitiy’s dairy and sheep farms.

Outside of work, Polly plays the piano, enjoys downhill mountain biking, walking and exploring, ‘trying’ to fix her car and is currently undertaking a course for veterinary physiotherapy. She has two Sprockers, Mickey and tripod Loki and two cats, Willow and Maple.

12 months ago vet Jess was called out to see a young dairy heifer with a broken leg. Luckily as she was so young, Jess believed her chances of recovery were good! So the leg was casted to stabilise the fracture whilst fingers were crossed and we all hoped for the best!

A year later and you’d never be able to tell Stawberry Shortcake sustained such an injury! Emily is fortunate enough to visit the farm regularly to follow her progress. See the comments for photos of Strawberry Shortcake 4 months post injury and now🥰

There is still time left for subsidised abortion investigations!

There is still time left for subsidised abortion investigations!

‼️Abortions should not be ignored‼️

Barren ewes and abortions can be caused by infectious agents, Toxoplasma and EAE being two of the most common. Both of these can be prevented with a simple vaccination programme.
🐑🐑🐑
MSD and Ceva provide subsidised testing schemes whereby 6-8 aborted ewes are tested for Toxoplasmosis and/or EAE.
🐑🐑🐑
Valuable information can be gathered from any ewes that have aborted. We are able to investigate potential causes enabling us to help you make better management decisions and protocols.

🪰Whilst it doesn't seem very spring-like at the moment, sudden changes in weather can prompt a change in the risk of fly strike. Take our "assess the risk of flystrike" quiz ahead of this season to avoid getting caught out and think about flystrike control ahead of time
