Xmas enrichment for your pooch
> collect all the torn up wrapping paper
> sprinkle kibble inside the wrapping paper and scrunch into balls
> collect any cardboard boxes
> put the scrunched up paper kibble balls in the boxes
> nest the small boxes in the larger boxes

Give to your dog and let the fun begin.
Yes it will be a but messy to clean up, but it will be worth it for the fun your dog has and they will be chill afterwards. Also it makes it all easier to fit in the bin!

Manage the Dogs Emotions and the Behaviour will Follow!

Often training plans focus on changing a specific behaviour, but I think this can be a mistake. A calm dog is rarely a challenging dog, so it makes sense to focus on achieving a calm mind as opposed to chasing your dog about trying to stop them from jumping up, stealing, pulling on the lead, or whatever else they might be doing.

In this latest blog, I'm going to talk about the different emotional zones and how to manage your dogs emotions for the best behavioural results. Check it out...

Did you know, you can get dog sunglasses. Very practical for windy walks on the beach, to protect their delicate eyes from the blowing sand which is worse down at their level. I got mine on Amazon!

Get your pooch used to them with lots of positive association first, treats and praise, slowly and gradually introducing the sunglasses.

Top tip:
Take your dog to as many places as possible when they are young, to get them used to all types of stimulus.
You can also do this with adult dog's but it may take a different approach. If you can't take your dog to a busy shopping centre, get in touch for some free tips and advice!

UP FOR ADOPTION

SIREN
Female - intact
DOB - July 2024
Breed - GSD / Malinois cross

This is Siren, I have been fostering her since October 2024. When she came to me she had a few issues to address, specifically fear of unfamiliar things, strangers and other dogs, but she has come on leaps and bounds and she is now ready to be rehomed. She would ideally go to a person/family who could give her plenty of mental stimulation and adventure, as she is an extremely intelligent dog who thrives on solving problems and pleasing her humans. She is super obedient and loyal. She is great with other dogs and children (she has been living with 2 other dogs and my 3yr old daughter).

She is a sweet girl who loves snuggles and cuddles, but she is also now growing in confidence and is curious about the world and loves to explore. Her recall is excellent, she walks to heel perfectly using a figure of 8 lead and she knows how to behave well in cafes, pubs and crowded places.

I want her to go to a good home so please only get in touch if you are sure you have the experience and lifestyle that suits this exceptionally intelligent breed. I have grown really attached to this girl so please understand that I will only let her go to someone who is very experienced and has the space, love and time that she absolutely deserves❤️

UP FOR ADOPTION

RONNIE
Male - neutered
DOB - 26th Nov 2022
Breed - Pug cross

This is Ronnie, I have been fostering him since March 2024. When he came to me he had a few issues to address, specifically acceptable household rules and behaviour, but he has come on leaps and bounds and he is now ready to be rehomed. He would ideally go to a family with young kids because he really does enjoy being around youthful energy, and being dressed up and pampered! (I have a 3yr old daughter who has loved having him as a play mate).

He is a sweet boy who loves snuggles and cuddles, but he is also fearless and resilient and will play with any dog big or small. He loves his walks but is happy to chill out at home for the rest of the time. He is a very low maintenance and obedient dog and will fit right into your lifestyle no problem.

I want him to go to a good home so please only get in touch if you are sure you have the love to give him.

First aid tips for your dog, as well as how to give your dog regular check ups at home. This not only helps you better understand your dog's health status and identify issues before they become more serious, but also gets them used to being examined which helps reduce anxiety when they have to go to the vets

It's important to let your older dog, tell your younger dog off, no matter of breed/size difference.

Even if they are growling, barking and snapping. It's a natural healthy way dogs communicate. Especially when older dogs are teaching younger dogs to calm down.

If it escalates or your younger pup isn't picking up the message, support your older dog in the process, exclude the pup for some calming time out if needed.

More on free entertainment for your dog...

Ok so letting her tear up paper creates a mess for me. But the 10 mins of fun she has with it, and being more tired and calm after, makes it all worth while! 😄🐶🥰

You can sprinkle some kibble in the bag or an empty box too, and make the entertainment even better!

Empty yoghurt pots are good too, they spend ages cleaning out the leftover yoghurt and enjoy the crinkling of the pot.

Banana skin is another good one. They love to flick it around and it is completely safe for them to eat if they chew it up.

As you go about your day, always keep an eye out for things your dog can play with, the possibilities are literally endless!

Get creative, get online and do some research if unsure about an idea you have. Most importantly, HAVE FUN ❤️☺️

Disclaimer: supervise and use common sense 😉

Crinkly wrapper inside an old sock, winning! 😄

Entertaining your dog doesn't need to be expensive, just use your imagination (disclaimer: and common sense!)

Try stuffing a sock with a natural animal chew like a beef skin, wrap in crinkly paper for added stimulus. Let your dog rip the sock up to get to the chew, this activity gives them part of their prey drive outlet which is an important element in their enrichment ❤️

Think dog, think nature! 🙏🐶❤️
