My no.1 piece of advice is to learn your dogs psychology, how they think, what the world looks like through their eyes (and nose).

Give your dog what they need, whilst helping them fit into our lifestyle. Bad behaviour is never intentional and more often than not it's a cry for help. Help them to calm down, help them to learn what is expected of them.

Misunderstanding and miscommunication is the biggest issue we face living in modern times with our dogs. We are humanising our dogs and disregarding and disrespecting their animal/species related needs and how they experience the world.

In terms of our interactions with them, our attention is all they want, aside from food, so give your dog less attention when they are being "bad" and notice and give attention when they are being good.

Learn about your dog like a scientist would learn about a newly discovered species. Be curious, be understanding, be respectful, be their supporting and loving guide. They are one of the most amazing creatures on earth. They find people who are lost, they can indicate on illnesses, they comfort people, they courageously fight with the forces.

In all their shapes and sizes, they have long been (hu)man's best friend ❤️

Free Range Dog Boarding - Australia

I’m excited to share a photo album showcasing the free range dog boarding facility I owned and managed in Australia (moving there from Middlesbrough, from 2012 to 2021).

Having the opportunity to observe a diverse group of over 30 dogs interact and socialise daily was not only immensely satisfying but also deeply enriched my understanding of canine behavior. Those were truly happy days!

I’m dreaming of opening another facility—so stay tuned and watch this space!

How interesting! Have a look at this article 👇 Dog's seem to be evolving to be more companion like. It may only be a matter of time before they gain a higher position in society, they certainly deserve it 🙌🏼❤️🐶

Two canine experts say that dogs are entering a third wave of domestication as humans require them to be friendly and well-suited to a sedentary lifestyle, like service animals.

Instead of feeding our dogs in a bowl, which is something we have done out of convenience, we can make feeding time a more enriching and calming activity by incorporating scentwork as part of the ritual of feeding time. You can even incorporate agility as well by placing food on objects for them to jump up, crawl under etc.
Get your dogs normal quota of kibble and/or wet food, and hide it around the room or garden, squishing wet food into the path, hedges, trees etc. and scattering the kibble around the grass and on/under objects around the garden/house. Getting them to use their nose and to lick is ultra calming and rewarding for dogs.

💥Tips for fireworks night:
👉Remember to not give off any negative energy out of sympathy for your dog as this will make them feel worse. Try and pretend nothing is happening, be as calm, confident and positive as you can.
👉Let them escape to wherever they feel safest, having all your doors open so they have options. Wherever they end up wanting to be, calmly place some treats and water next to the area and then sit close and read a book, so your presence comforts them, but don't give any attention, just reassure them with you being close and not bothered by the fireworks.
👉If they look at you, sniff you/around, or start to relax, then give calm praise and affection.
👉You can use calming essential oil scents in the room, like vanilla, ginger or coconut.
👉You can put music on to drown the noise out. Here is some great calming music for dogs
