Please don’t do this! 😫
If you see myself or anyone out with a dog please don’t assume it’s ok to approach with your dog without asking.
It is not necessary for every single dog to meet every other dog.
Do you stop and talk to every single person you meet on the street? 🤨
It can actually be overwhelming and harmful in the long term.
When looking after someone else’s dog I have a responsibility to create a relationship of trust with them. This includes helping them feel safe and protected. 🤝
By taking a pause and checking with other dog owners if it’s ok to approach you are making this so much easier. It is how you can truly care for your own dog & the other one.
Sometimes this means that humans can’t socialise when then want to. I would love to stop and chat but if I am walking a reactive or insecure dog I am not going to put them through that for the sake of a chit chat. 🗣️
So if you are asked to stay back by a fellow dog owner, they are not being rude, they are looking after their dog, please afford us the space that’s needed to do that.
