Last week, we welcomed Marjoram, or mamma Marj, as her fosterers affectionately named her.
Her story is a sad one and so avoidable.
She arrived under our wing thanks to her amazing foster carers who were alerted to her plea. They had removed 2 cats hours earlier from a volatile position. They were then told of a heavily pregnant cat in the same place.
Unfortunately, by the time she was rescued, she had already delivered 2 babies who hadn't survived. She presented with a huge mammary swelling the size of a fist and she is underweight.
She was scooped up and taken to safety. It was then discovered she was still in labour and in difficulty. We called our wonderful vets who admitted her immediately, she was scanned and after some oxytocin, she delivered a third kitten who also passed away very quickly despite all efforts.
She was sent home with antibiotics and pain relief. She has been monitored and cared for closely by her foster home. Her ordeal was horrific and so avoidable.
She's estimated to be around 4 years old and likely to have had multiple back to back litters. As soon as she's strong enough, she will be neutered and will never go through such an ordeal again.
* Please note, Marj is not yet available for rehoming *
