🐾⚠️ Attention Doggy Clients ⚠️🐾

Please make sure your dog has an ID tag with up-to-date details securely attached to their collar. It’s a legal requirement, and makes it much more likely that your dog will be returned home quickly in the case of it getting lost or doing a runner!

I have Freda’s Creature Care tags that go on dogs for off-lead walks, but they should always have one with your own details anyway.

This is in addition to microchipping, which is also required by law.

From classic tags to rings, rubber tags & flat tags, there are all sorts of options available if you aren’t a fan of traditional tags.

Snaps from the last week 📷🐾

With horsey show season coming to an end, everything settles down a bit and my life-juggling eases off (a little)! Unfortunately this last week I’ve been floored by a virus & am still yet to see the other side of it, so I’m super grateful to my lovely clients for being so accommodating with the changes I’ve had to make.

For those who haven’t had bookings but are curious as to what changes are made in these circumstances, here’s what I do:
- change walks to drop-ins
- let all clients know and offer cancellation if someone will be home & the dog won’t benefit from a drop-in only
- ask someone (for example my partner or my Mum) to be my buddy for the day, helping with transport & playing with dogs (when suitable!)

I will do everything in my power not to entirely cancel a day, as I understand that often this would leave dogs home alone & people stressed at work. Of course there may be an occasion where I am physically unable to make it out, but thankfully this is yet to happen.

Anyway, I have a few days off now, so I’m going to coorie down and hopefully shift this horrid thing 🤒

Hello Senna! 🐾

This gorgeous lad is my newest doggy client, and was very brave coming out for his first walk with me yesterday.

Senna is a rescue pup who is a little wary of new people, so we first built-up some familiarity through a series of very short drop-ins at home. Now we’re focusing on building up more confidence ahead of some walks booked for while his family are away.

With plenty of chilled encounters, sniffy walks, and of course yummy treats, I’m sure we’ll be firm friends in no-time 🥰🐾

Hello folks!

I’ve been silent here as we’ve had a cheeky wee holiday away ⛰️ Ollie booked us into a camping pod in Tyndrum, and we spent three days walking, chilling, and generally enjoying some time away from ‘real life’. Ollie did make the observation that the days weren’t that different to an an average work day for me though 🥾🐾

We only took one of our pups, Rue, as Snoopy is quite reactive and we weren’t sure how busy it would be. I’ve stuck a selection of pics here - a couple of which show just how soggy we were for 90% of the time…..

Anyway we had a fab break, and I’m looking forward to getting back to seeing your lovely pups next week!

We have a new face in the Creature Care gang! Meet Jess, the cocker spaniel puppy 🖤🤍

Jess’ people have opted for drop-ins & walks on some of the days they’re working, so I get to spend time with this poppet. Our drop-ins will include a wee walk, some playtime, and some fun training & engagement-building games 🥰🐾

To all clients booked-in this week (and the rest of the summer), please note than some walks may be shortened due to the heat, and in extreme cases may be reduced to drop-ins. Even today with an overcast sky, a couple of dogs were getting pretty puffed, and I have to prioritise safety and comfort.

Firstly a little about FCC and myself, Freda! Last year I became self-employed, and Freda's Creature Care was born. I have worked with animals since 2016, in rescue kennels and as a veterinary physiotherapy assistant.

Whilst running Wee Critters Rescue is as demanding as a 'proper' job, I do this entirely voluntarily, and as such need a source of income in order to support myself and this work. As Freda's Creature Care I am able to have the flexibility needed in order to continue running Wee Critters, whilst doing something I love and making the most of the skills & experience I have developed over the years.

Since launching FCC I have primarily been caring for dogs & cats, however my main goal when launching this business was to offer quality care for ALL species. I know that for many people, aside from daily care requirements being met, their biggest concern is whether or not their small animal's temporary carer will be able to spot if their pet becomes unwell or is behaving in a way that is unusual for the species. I offer a high-quality and reliable service providing peace-of-mind that your critters are receiving the best care with someone experienced and able to spot when something is amiss.

I cover Inverness & the West of the Black Isle, and offer once/twice daily drop-ins at your home to feed, clean, check & provide company for your pets.

I’ve taken the week off, and although the plan had originally been to go camping, it’s actually looking like it’ll be a chilled few days spent at home 🏡 I’m not complaining! There’s gardening, day trips, a hill walk, and plenty of time with our creatures on the cards.

This weekend was a quiet one, walking Kinnie yesterday and house-sitting the ever-lovely Toby 🐾

Today I attended a first aid course with Pet-ex Services, topping up my knowledge and gaining a certificate 🤩 It’s reassuring to myself to know that I have the skills to handle emergency situations and identify problems that may arise, and I hope that this gives you extra peace of mind whilst your dogs (and other creatures) are in my care!

So satisfying!

Today was a clean-out day for Spud & Flinch, and I couldn’t resist snapping a satisfying cleaning time-lapse 📷

If you have guinea pigs, you’ll know just how messy they can be! Thankfully these lads have a wonderful setup & a great cleaning routine, which I can easily carry-out whilst their family are away on holiday.

Thank you everyone for being lovely this past week despite me being unwell & causing some disruption!

I’m happy to report that I appear to be through the worst of it, and am starting to get some energy back 🤩🌞 just in time for a busy Saturday afternoon! 🐾

Shuna & Harris are my house-sitting buddies this weekend, and we’ve had some nice time re-charging in the sun post-walks. Despite their best (puppy eyed) efforts, they will not in fact be getting any choccy. Sorry pups!

Good evening!

I have been struck down by a cold, and despite remaining optimistic for the last couple of days that I could just power through, I am now truly floored 🤒

I’m going to do my best to stick to the diary for the rest of the week, however walks will be slower and I’ll have to play it by ear. If you’re happy for me to do a drop-in or a shorter walk instead, please let me know.

On that note, if anyone doesn’t really need me this week, I’m happy to cancel & transfer credit to a future booking.

Over the weekend I had the delight of looking after these adorable little piggies, Spud and Flinch!

Some of you won’t know this, but my other big life-commitment is the running of a small animal rescue, which I’ve been doing for over 6 years now. Thanks to this I have experience with a variety of small furries, from hamsters & guinea pigs, to gerbils & rats.

These boys are my first Creature Care piggy clients though, which is a special milestone! 🤩🥳

Let’s talk muzzles!

Whilst information on muzzling dogs is much more widely-available (and less taboo) than in the past, there is still a lot of judgment placed on the owners of muzzled dogs. Having worked with dogs for almost 10 years, I have met countless pooches who have needed muzzled for all sorts of reasons. Here’s the thing - none of them were bad dogs!

Now as a dog-walker who specialises in nervous & reactive dogs, I have a number of doggy clients who need to be muzzled due to past bites & aggression. My insurance allows me to work with these dogs, on the condition that they are muzzled, on-lead, and walked solo. This doesn’t stop us from having fun on our walks though, as with a well-fitting (and conditioned) muzzle the dog is quite happy.

As a walker my main priority is your dog's safety, so pant room is incredibly important. Without a full-pant, your dog is unable to regulate their body temperature, a dangerous situation in hot weather especially 🐾 other considerations to be made are a muzzle's bite-proof-ness, function, material and appearance. Some people opt for a more subtle and non-threatening design like a vinyl muzzle, whilst others purposefully choose a stand-out muzzle to discourage approach from people & dogs. The perfect muzzle will depend entirely on your dog's specific needs & your own preferences.

Wherever/whoever you look to for advice, make sure they promote positive conditioning of muzzle wearing and encourage safe muzzles with adequate pant room - suitable for your active pooches!
