Meet Stella 🐾🤗

👋Earlier this week I visited Luosko, a German Shepard rescue center who go above and beyond to care for their dogs in need of a home.

❤️ Stella greeted me politely and leant into me almost straight away, now considering I was a complete stranger in a kennel environment I was very surprised at how lovely and friendly she was.

💊 Luosko have been doing their best to treat her fungal infection but they may still need help, as it has been very costly!

🏡 I look forward to working with Luosko to help them find their forever home!

😲 You wouldn't believe the number of rescue dogs that are returned, the rate changes from month to month but rates can be as high as 72%!

👩‍🏫 Learning how to read, communicate and care for a rescue dog or just an unfamiliar dog should be taught in schools in my opinion, but until then, be careful where you get your information from!

⏰ Rest assured with time, patience and understanding, your dog can make the transformation you always dreamed of

I have to apologize in advance for yet another rant, but sometimes I can't help myself knowing what I know and seeing what I have seen over the years. I will post more exciting content soon, however...

As a species I believe we really are in the dark ages when it comes to understanding our dogs, fully.

These labels such as "naughty" get thrown around all the time. With regards to this dog, it looks pretty clear to me he is in distress.

Without knowing the broader picture (which is very important) this seems like a case of severe seperation anxiety; which has nothing to do with being "naughty", it is an emotional reaction that manifests itself physiologically and mentally.

I just wanted to share this to raise some awareness, that dogs do have emotions and they can struggle just like us.

🐶Do they get to practice behaviours they were bred for?

Long term support is highly beneficial, and it is particularly important for rescue dogs, there is no "quick fix" for problem behaviour without consequence.

In some cases they may have been exposed to negative experiences depending on the dog's background.

As an owner and rescuer of your dog, you have been an absolute superstar in pledging yourself to the successful transformation that you want for your dog.

With such investment and much uncertainty (especially if you don't know the history of your dog) it can be a HUGE weight off your shoulders knowing there is a rescue expert just a Whatsapp away for reassurance, support and guidance.

😖When struggling everyday with reactivity there is a lot of management involved...

📊Managing the environment, managing your dog's emotions and managing your own!

👀The best thing you can do is to keep that danger zone clear and work on the fundamentals.

📈Eventually, and with right guidance, Kenny's "Danger Zone" (this stuff writes itself) will gradually decrease in size.

🐢You have to go at your dog's pace however, if you push your dog too soon you may well end up back to square one!
