We canβt believe we have now been open for 3 months! We love caring for and getting to know you and all your pets as well as welcoming our new clients.
We have also been learning about our neighbours here at Greenham Business Park. One being the West Berks Foodbank, and all the great work they do providing support to the local community. Especially the work they are doing to help families in need over the summer period.
With this in mind we are excited to announce our charity βWalk and Talkβ event taking place on Sunday 11th August from 9am until 11am. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the work of the Foodbank.
Coffee, Tea and Cake will be available to purchase from the Rolling Coffee Bean who will also be donating some of their profit from the day to the work of the Foodbank.
Please join us with your four-legged friends. This maybe overwhelming for some dogs as there may be a large group. We will be starting at the practice for a 5km walk. Come along and have a chance to chat to us about your furry friends.
You can sign up to the event via the link below. The suggested donation is Β£2 per dog. Additional cash donations will also be greatly appreciated on the day. We look forward to seeing you there!

β¨ Not just a haircut β¨
Iβm always banging on about your dogβs groom not being just a haircut. Thereβs the nails, keeping pads clear blah blah blah Nicola! π
But last week I had another example of this. Obi came for a visit and I was asked to look at his paw once he was on the table. Heβd been licking it but his owners couldnβt see anything in it.
After his bath I was able to determine the problem was from the ankle down- I could hold the leg without any issues.
Using the dryer I could see there wasnβt anything in his feet, a few matts between his toes- but this isnβt unusual when a dog has been excessively licking/ chewing. So then it was time for the squeeze test! Where is causing the pain? By gently squeezing I knew it was just the ankle.
Whatβs around the ankle? The dew claw! A quick inspection (at a funny angle with my phone torch because he knew Iβd found the spot!) and I could see he had damaged his claw, probably out on a walk. It was at an irregular angle and right up by the base where it connects, the outer layers had come away π© Once I knew that I could check other areas around his ankle and spotted his foot was slightly puffy - which youβd never have spotted without really looking and comparing ankles.
Firstly, now I knew, I could avoid holding that area and make the groom more comfortable for him.
But secondly, I was able to get photos and let his owner know- they probably wouldnβt have noticed otherwise with all his fluff! They could then book an appointment with the vet and get him help β€οΈ
Dog groomers ARE NOT VETS. We cannot diagnose. But! We do see your dogs often enough to know what is normal not only in dogs, but for your dog personally. We know what your dog normally looks and feels like and have our hands on your dog more than your vet.
We are able to highlight something that we think you need to know about like new lumps, bumps, rashes, redness and even damaged dew claws! Then, with the information we give you, you can take them to a vet for a diagnosis and if needed treatment.
Never underestimate your dog groomer and the importance of having your dog groomedβ¦ itβs never just about a haircut π©·
Iβm closed until the 12th August for a break. I will respond to messages then π
Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous.
If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a cool area and offered plenty of water to drink.

Leucillin is fab stuff. We use it on our pets and ourselves if needed. Treated my cat with it when she cut her head somewhere. Spayed the leucillin on a cotton pad and cleaned her cut with it twice a day for a week and it healed up beautifully. π
