Exciting News❗️

The wonderful Ellis from All Waggin A Good Time Pet Services is handing over her business to me as she sets off on a new venture. I will still be running The Kane9 Klub alongside and where possible will mix some of the dogs. This isn’t something I will rush into as we both have great groups of dogs and I want that to remain as it is rather than putting everyone together and hoping for the best. Due to the increase in dogs alongside my sister Phoebe I have also brought in Kelly to help run things as safely and smoothly as possible.

In addition I am also attending a mentorship programme with a great dog trainer to further my knowledge and skills.

I want to be the best I can be both with training and as a Walker, I adore all my dogs and can’t wait to keep growing and learning.

Currently my books will remain closed for training and walks, this will be reviewed once I’ve found my feet with the new changes.

When is the best time to start training your puppy? The day they come home! Everything you do will play a part in your dogs behaviour moving forward.

I offer a 6 week puppy package which includes;

- crate and toilet training
- diet and exercise
- management
- puppy teething
- walks and recall
- threshold and manners
- relationship and engagement
- basic obedience
- leave it command

Want a better recall? Get yourself a long line and get practicing.

Want your dog to settle in pubs and cafes? Train a place command.

Want your dog to have more engagement with you on walks? Hand feed and play with their favourite toy.

Don’t dwell on the past, dogs live in the moment and so should we when training. Soak up every little moment you have with your dog 🐕

❗️Important Info❗️

I’m sorry to announce but from next year I will no longer be offering boarding as a service.

If anyone is waiting for a meet and greet I’m sorry but this will unfortunately no longer go ahead.

I’ve made this decision to ensure that both your dogs and our animals at home are as comfortable as possible. I’ve loved having all of your dogs over but feel this is the next step for me to focus primarily on training.

Should you need any help finding other boarders please message me I’ll pass over my recommendations.

We do also offer a home stay where Phoebe would come and stay at your home.

New week, new goals, new mindset. Let’s get it ✨💪🏼

Last week I got myself upset thinking I’m not spending enough time and doing the right training with Kane. He had a cheeky couple of days and felt like all my work was gone!

It is so normal to feel like this on your training journey, it is far from smooth sailing. Reminder to never compare your dog to what you see online, this is what people want you to see! If you are happy with your progress and your dog then ignore everyone else.

Training should be enjoyable for your dog and you! If you aren’t enjoying it your dog certainly won’t, find something that you both love 💚

Lots of holidays here at The Kane9 Klub 💚

Reggie and Bruce are here with me and Kane and Phoebe is doing a house sit with Walter.

It’s important to me that we are able to provide the best care for your dogs whether that’s in your home or ours. To do this I usually only board one dog at a time however at times there are a couple days cross over. I will only be comfortable doing this when I l know the dogs will be a good match.

Confidence building.

Dogs of all abilities and behaviours can benefit through confidence building activities.

Through giving your dog a task to do which is out of the ordinary it helps strengthen your bond with your dog. Your not going to give them something to do that’s unsafe or can’t be achieved which builds your dogs trust in you.

This can particularly be helpful to those nervous or fearful dogs. Agility or jumping over or under things gets your dog engaged with you making walks more fun. It’s also an opportunity for them to settle in a perhaps overwhelming environment.

Puppy training 🐾

Luna, Beagle and Millie, Cockapoo have started their 6 week puppy training.

Firstly, we focus on setting the foundations and creating a schedule for the puppies that is tailored to each owner. Focusing on management strategies to get through the difficult stages of puppyhood prior to any training commencing.

Another awful situation that can easily be resolved by training your dog recall 😢

Recall needs to be absolutely bulletproof before you let your dog off lead without long leads, especially in an area where wildlife are present. If your dog doesn’t come back to you every time they are called they shouldn’t be in a place with such vulnerable animals. Natural instincts will kick in with the dog however, should still be able to be called back from any situation.

Here is my friend and client working hard training her dog. As you can see they are both doing amazingly, Walter is responsive, he is engaged and is listening to his markers and cues.

This was being filmed so we can track his progress and see how far he has come! However, this was then ruined by the inconsiderate owner who allowed their dog to approach him. Walter is working through minor reactivity to dogs and has been doing fab noticing the dogs around and then checking back in.

If you let your dog off lead with no recall and shout ‘he’s friendly’ or ‘sorry he doesn’t have good recall’ you are creating so many problems. It’s rude, dangerous and completely unavoidable by training your dog.

You can see how distressed Walter becomes having this dog enter his space. The other dog is not responding to being told no and to back off, at this point there was no other option than to pull Walter away which can trigger a reaction. His owner did the right thing and following this got right back into training so it became a positive experience so not to ruin a successful session.

What if the dog you let yours approach is;
- training
- aggressive
- anxious
- therapy or working dog

So many dogs become reactive because of the ‘friendly’ off lead dog.

No recall, no off lead!

Taking some time this morning to sit near a busy road for Kane to take in all the sounds and distractions.

Part of training includes chilling out with your dog and enjoying their company. Next time you are on a field or in the park take 5 minutes to just sit with your dog. Don’t ask for anything and let them take in their surroundings.

Kane chose to pop himself into a down so was rewarded for that. The rest of our time we just sat and watched the world go by for 5 minutes 💚

Bathing and grooming can be a very stressful time for a dog. The best thing you can do is take those preventive measures to prepare and protect both the groomer and your pup. Start very slowly with your puppy and each time make it rewarding to them.

Build a positive association around the shower/bath along with the hair brush and dryer.

Along with this your pup needs exposed to handling particularly around ears, paws and nails. This can be very helpful to your groomer to avoid any discomfort and in some cases biting.

We had one escape from the bath but other than that Kane took it so well 😅

A nice example of healthy play between dogs.

When your dog is playing with another stop to analyse their body language.

Is one always jumping on the other?
Are they tense and not moving around a lot?
Are they trying to run away from the other dog?

When play isn’t balanced one dog can come across as a bit of a bully by forcing the other dog into situations they don’t want to be in. It’s our job to pay attention to our dogs and understand if they are really enjoying themselves or you just think they are.

Here is a few things you should be looking for;
Loose body movements
Even play by taking it in turns
Having breaks
Soft mouths

Benefits of scatter feeding. 🐾 Outlets to sniff - sniffing allows the dog to ‘see’ the world and their environment. 🐾 Predator instinct - dogs are natural scavengers and will enjoy the search for food. 🐾 Mental enrichment - did you know a mental task is as tiring as physical. Find a balance of mental enrichment along with walks and exercise. 🐾 Calming and relaxing - sniffing is a low arousal activity to help promote a calm dog. 🐾 Slow down meal times - for the dogs that inhale their food! If you have a puppy by scatter feeding you will tire them out as they spend more time working on their food than if it was given in a bowl. Harley progress ⭐️ Loose lead walk in one session, Harley and her owner have done amazing with the work I had set them up with meaning she was ready to smash her loose lead! So much more relaxed, such a good start! Will next be getting Harley through certain areas that she finds difficult to pay attention. No sound saved from reels on Instagram.

There are many ways people use a stay or a wait cue. Do you use that cue in this situation? Or find yourself saying ‘wait wait wait’ By repeating cues your diluting the impact showing the dog they don’t need to listen the first time around. A wait or stay in this situation is implied, the dog should remain in their sit/down until released. This won’t come naturally and will take a lot of practice and time building up the duration.
