Hi all! Hope you's are all well.

Many continous followers of page will remember Wasp (now Amelia). Previously known as nameless. She has been with us for a long while now and was our second longest resident! (Behind George)

However, very happily, she has been rehomed! She has been living with her new owner for a little while now and is very well cared for, living a nice retirement at her old age of 9 - 10. Her new owner has now also volunteered to become one of our hard working members and to help care for and love all the mistreated or misunderstood animals that we take in!

She is now also the fosterer for Isaac (next post).

I am sure that Amelia will now live out the rest of her days very happily with her new owner!

Goodbye Amelia and congratulations!

Thank you all, Brandon

Hi all! I hope that your day is going well!

This post is a continuation of the last post in which we spoke about Terry! This post is about Grump!

Grump is a beautiful baby corn snake that we recieved today! He is in very good condition and doesn't have a sad backstory! His previous owners circumstances just made it so that Grump wasn't getting the attention he needed and with that he thought that Grump would be better of with us where he can be given a new home that will have all the time in the world to care for him. Though I admit I am very tempted to adopt him myself! He was named Grump by myself today after he decided to bite me as I changed his water!😂 (all baby corns tend to be a bit more fiesty than adults)

There is not much else to say about him because his story doesnt require much telling! Updates will continue to be posted as he gets older!

However today does raise a point that needs to be spread more than it is. Change in reptile law needs to happen, its far too often that we see reptiles being mistreat, abused, neglected etc. Sometimes it can just be that these people are simply undereducated in their care and requirements but it can also sometimes be that people maliciously and/or selfishly get an animal without a care to their needs. We believe that there should be stricter laws on the keeping of reptiles brought into play and together we can make that happen! One day things will change and it will be because of us true lovers of reptiles that it does!

Thank you all for your time today!

*I would also like to add that usually I would not handle an animal until a few days after transport unless they need an urgent health check or to be moved but he came to me!

Hi all! Hope you are doing well and having a great day so far! Today is a rather hectic day in terms of rescue as we have taken in two very special little creatures!

Terry the Terrapin and Grump the Corn! (Next post for Grump)

At the moment the rescue does have some spaces opening up meaning that we are now able to take in more animals every single day! And with the support recieved from many kind souls aswell as my brilliant team we continue to grow in size every single day!

Terry's Story (with us) started yesterday when a kind lady called Tanya alerted me that her son had been given a turtle whom had been living in poor conditions and needed some help! Her son being the kind soul he is took the turtle so that he could be given to a rescue to recieve the help he needed, and be able to start the path to his new life! Due to the extreme circumstances we acted as quickly as possible picking up Terry early this morning and bringing him straight "home" so that he could start to relax and recover as fast as possible! As seen in the photos he is now set up in his temporary tank of 5 days until a space in a 6ft tank becomes available! After examination Terry seems to be in remarkably good condition considering his history! Eating, swimming and basking as a happy Terrapin does! He will still be taken to the Vet so that he can recieve a proper checkover by an exotic expert and once hes got the all clear, he will be relocated to his new home!

For those of you that dont know much about terrapins, Terry is a yellow-bellied slider. He seems to be from 10 years up due to his size but they usually live up to 40 - 50 years old! This is not a pet I would reccomend to a beginner however they are lovely creatures!

I'm certain that Terry is going to have a great life and live to his full expectency despite how he was previously kept and will continue to post updates!

I would finally like to say a big thank you to Opal! Tanya's Daughter and Terry's old friend! Opal is a very kind hearted young girl who decided that instead of treating herself with the money she had been saving to get an ice cream, she would donate it to our rescue to let us help Terry and more turtles that we may come across in the future! Thank you very much Opal! And all of Tanya's children for giving Terry love and care before he came to us!

Hey all! I hope that everyone is doing well. I apologise for being rather inactive this last month! Me and the rest of us at RDRRNE have been extremely busy with alot of moving around as well as some new additions. (Post's coming soon).

Returning to the posts initial intention! This is Wasp. (As named by her fosterer). If you have been here a while then you will know she was previously known as nameless and was one of the first animals that came onto this page! For those of you who haven't been here so long, she is an 8 year old Leopard Gecko! She has been under our care since march and is now ready for her forever home!

She is a brilliant eater, although clumsy. She sheds reasonably well however she has in the past suffered from stuck shed around her toes which resulted in Necrosis hence her lack of toes! This doesn't effect her at all and she is still just as happy as ever! As long as humidity is kept at the correct levels and she is monitored during shedding then there should not be any problems! She goes to the toilet well! She has no problems what-so-ever!

She is a very loving soul and very much enjoys having alot of attention and her forever home would have to be able to provide that attention she deserves!

If you are interested in her adoption then give me a message on: 07488357707. I can then provide some more information and we can move forwards! Thank you all for reading!

Have a great day!

TW - DEAD TORTOISE

Good evening all.

As we stated in the last post, unfortunatley this is not a happy story, but it is one that must be shared.

Recently we had a small horsefield tortoise come into our care. On our last post regarding her, we do talk about how we obtained her and a little bit of her backstory. But we won't go too much into that in this post.

When we first obtained her. We noticed that she had a large abcess on the side of her head which was causing her clear discomfort. She was very lethargic and had discharge coming from her right eye. On top of all this, she had a very soft shell. Although we knew that this was most likely a fatal prognosis and that she would most likely need to be euthanized, we were still hopeful that she may have some chance. We took her into care, hoping that we may see some improvement once we had moved her into the correct environment, however there was none. At this point we were suspecting a number of issues including: MBD, URTD, scale rot, calcium deficiency, eye infection, obviously her abcess and the potential was that she may also have a number of other things that we could not determine from a simple health check such as internal abcesses or something along those lines.

At this point we had already booked her into the vets for this morning (29/03/22) so that we could have a proffesional consultation with an exotic-trained vet at Robson and Prescott vets. Upon arrival at 10.30 this morning, we were seen very quickly and in this time, after a quick examination. The vet confirmed our worst fear, which was that she had MBD. Sometimes, depending on the stage, MBD can be treated but unfortunatley in Xena's case was too severe. He gave us some options but we made the decision that It would be kinder to just put her to rest. She was in visual pain and all the surgery that she would have needed to correct her issues would have just caused her even more pain and suffering for the most likely case to be that she would still have to be euthanized later on in the treatment.

At around 6, I collected her body and took her home to bury her. She was buried in a flower bed to represent her spirit. She was such a kind girl and she didn't deserve her life to be cut short.

The reason that I am making this such a large post is so that I can spread the message that I truly believe there should be more rules and regulations around the keeping of exotic pets. She died because her previous owner did not know how to care for her and yet was still allowed to obtain her and keep her alive in this horrible condition for the majority of her short life. (Est age* 15) This happens far too often and more animals like Xela and George will suffer because of it. This needs to change and we need to be the reason that it does. Thank you all for reading through this post and what we had to say. I hope you all have an amazing day.

Hi All! This is a late post due to the fact that we have been very busy taking care of the most recent arrival (Xena) who has very sadly passed away (more information on this in the next post). We recently aquired a Hermanns tortoise by the name of Toto into our rescue!

Toto is very fortunatley in amazing health! His previous owners were great but simply no longer had the time to give him the amount of attention he deserves! Due to them taking such good care of him (most often we dont often see this in these types of rescue stories), he is in brilliant condition. He is 7 years old turning 8 this year! He has grown amazingly well, being at the perfect size and weight for his age! For him we genuinely have no faults to point out, apart from a very slight deformation to his beak which does not affect him at all so therefore does not need treated.

We're very happy to be able to write a post about a rescue/surrender that has gone amazingly well! Thank you all for reading and please tune into the next post (unfortunatley it is the opposite to the spirit of this post, however is very important and needs to be shared)

Good evening! I have recently taken in a Horsefield tortoise named Xena. When I collected her I had a discussion with the pervious owner about her situation.

She is currently extremely lethargic and refusing to eat which could be due to hibernation however, she is also showing signs of other serious health conditions. In the photos I have shown above she is shown to have a rather large abscess on the back of her head and a slightly runny nose which could be a sign of a respiratory infection. Her front legs are very unclean which has caused them to become infected, making her loose her scales in that area. Her shell is also soft and brittle which is thought to be caused by a calcium deficiency. Although i haven’t taken a look yet i believe that she may have some sort of infection within her mouth which could be a reason for her not eating.

I will be taking her to the vets on monday however I do not have enough money to help save her. I would greatly appreciate if you could donate to her go fund me to help save Xena. Thank you very much and have a nice night.

Good Evening everyone! It seems that we have made a ritual of evening posts so far!

This is our now newest addition! She is a female Leopard Gecko who as of right now remains nameless as we have already found somewhere who is going to adopt her and I am going to allow them to name her! She is 8 years old and thankfully, her story is not a sad one. Unfortunatley her previous owner could no longer care for her for personal reasons and decided to surrender her to us to give her the best chance she could get! As you can see in the photos she is just beginning her shed but she is in great health and a very well handled young lady! Once I have confirmation of her adoption I will make another post showing where she has gone to!

Thank you for reading everyone and Im glad that we could provide a happy story today!

If you would like to learn more about leopard geckos then please let me know in the comments, there is a variety of content I can make regarding this, such as creating the perfect enclosure, cheapest (well made and appropriate) enclosure aswell as any facts you may want to know!

Please remember to share and if possible, please donate to our GoFundMe! Link in bio

Have an amazing night!

Good evening people!

I hope you are all doing well today!

This is our newest addition to our rescue, Mark. He is a Royal Python (ball python). Mark is a timid snake, as most royal's are. He is very shy and for the first week of his stay, he didnt come out of his hide at all, however he has recently started getting braver and coming out more often to explore. He will often look through the glass and just watch me. He has not yet eaten, which is completely normal! Infact, they can actually go for up to and maybe even past 13 months without eating and still be perfectly healthy! Though I doubt he will go that long. When moving a royal python to a new area or enclosure it can often put them under alot of stress and cause them to go on hunger strikes for a couple of weeks. With his behaviour improving I am going to try feeding daily until he eats and then one extra large mouse every 10 days routinely. If you would like to know more facts on snakes and how to care for them just leave a comment saying so and I can make more of that content in the future!

Although this boy is not too fond of being handled just yet, I think when he has settled into his forever home, he will become nice and sociable.

Once he has gotten the all clear from a vet, he will be going up for adoption for all interested!

Hello everyone. This is the first official post of Reptile Discovery - Reptile Rescue North East. I'd love to welcome all of those who are reading this to the page. Thank you for your time. Now into the scaley boy below.

This snake is George, he is a male corn snake estimated to be 3 years old. George is a new addition to our collection, only coming in on 12/02/22. As you can very clearly see in the photos below, George has a very swollen lower abdomen which is thought to be caused by either Kidney disease or Heart disease. To confirm this it is required to run a variety of tests on him: X-ray, blood tests and a scan. Combined the total price for testing will have a total of just under £250. On top if this we will have to add however much treatment will cost, depending on what the issue shows to be. As you can also see in one of the photos below, George is a loving snake, he is very cuddly and loves to wrap himself up in your hair, clothes etc. (Although I do not reccomend you allow a snake to wrap around your head or neck if you dont know what youre doing, no matter how seemingly harmless) He is full of life showing curiosity in almost everything and always wanting to be handled. He deserves a second chance at life after his rough start and I would love to give him this, but unfortunatley I can't do this alone and so I ask for your help. If you have it in your heart and have something to spare. Please make a donation below (All money goes towards vet bills, feeding and maintenance of our snakes)

Thank you for reading and please, donate if you can. Everything helps.
