🌟Veterinary Receptionist Vacancy🌟

Would you like a job where you get to spend the day greeting our furry patients and their humans? Are you a great multi-tasker, with the ability to deliver service with a smile even in a busy front of house environment? If yes, then read on!

Strachan Veterinary Group are looking for a superstar receptionist to complete our front of house team. You will work predominantly in our Heaton branch just on the edge of Newcastle City Centre, but there will be occasional shifts out at our Tynemouth branch located almost on the beach- the perfect mix of urban and coastal lifestyles! We are committed to recognising that life working within a vet’s has its ups and downs, as we support our clients through their journey of pet ownership. As such our people are at the heart of all we do, from ‘friday feasts’ to regular socials and wellbeing activities, a happy team is our top priority.

So, what are we looking for? We’d love a receptionist with experience working within veterinary practice, or a similar medical environment, but are open to applicants from a range of backgrounds- tell us your skills and what you can bring to the mix! You will be the face of the business, so people skills and empathy are a must. Our perfect person must have excellent computer skills and pin point attention to detail.

Sound like a bit of you but you want to know the nitty gritty? Have a little look below:

Poppy enjoyed cuddles with RVN Emma today while with us for her spay.
Female dogs can be neutered from around 6 months old dependent on breed, eliminating the risk of uterine infections later in life, and reducing the risk of mammary (breast) cancers.
We always treat each pet as an individual and are happy to explain all neutering procedures and whether they are the best option for your pet.
Please call us on 0191 265 3998 if you'd like more information.

This gorgeous little fox cub was found by a member of the public and brought into our Tynemouth practice today. He was very hungry so we gave him a special calorie dense meal then he was taken in by a wonderful wildlife rescue.
He will be rehabilitated and looked after in order to hopefully be released into the wild again when he is old enough.

From June 10th 2024 a new law comes into place making it compulsory for all cats to be microchipped from 20 weeks of age.

A microchip can be implanted at any time, however a good time to microchip them is when they are in for neutering surgery, as they will be under a general anaesthetic. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice, and holds a unique number which is registered to a national database.

We can also implant a microchip during a consultation with one of our vets or nurses. If your cat is not chipped please contact us and our friendly team will be able to assist you.

⚠️ PARASITE TREATMENT - PLEASE READ ⚠️

Based on the new “Under Care” regulations from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in order for our vets to prescribe your pets antiparasitic treatment we need to carry out a physical examination and create an ongoing prescription for these medications. Our prescriptions last 6-12 months, depending on your animals health history and current conditions.

PLEASE NOTE: If your pet already has a prescription and does not need a weight check, we require 48 hours' notice when ordering their treatment. Please order in advance of collection.

Please use our new vet2pet app to order your prescription in advance or book your appointment

Thanks

Thinking of adopting an Easter Bunny?

While they can make wonderful pets, it’s important to remember that rabbits are exotic animals that require a lot of care.

Domestic rabbits can live up to 12 years of age.
Rabbits are exotic pets, meaning that not all vets can care for them, and specialist care is often more expensive.
Rabbits are very sensitive to noise, and need to be handled with care. Children should not be in charge of taking care of them.

Additionally, rabbits require a lot more care than you may expect…
They need a big space (minimum of 3x3x1m), and should, if possible, be kept free inside your home.
Bunnies should be toilet-trained - just like cats and dogs.

You need to clean their hutch every day, including disinfecting their water and food bottles with rabbit-safe products.
They require frequent nail trims and dental check-ups, requiring help from your vet.
Rabbits need to be let out of their cage daily to play and exercise.
Bunnies love playing with their toys and digging around in their enclosure. Ensure you provide adequate entertainment.
They need their hair brushed daily to avoid mats.
They need to eat plenty of fresh veg and hay, in addition to their feed. “All-in-one” solutions are not conducive to a healthy bun.
Bunnies are companion animals, so ideally should be kept as a pair

Before adopting a bunny, please ensure that you are ready to commit to providing the care that they need.

We hope you and your family have a great Easter!

This is monty! He had a small lump removed from his head and was super brave! Only 10 months old and almost 40kg. Going to be a big lad when he's fully grown! Our student nurse Danni just had to get a selfie with him because he had the most boppable nose ever! Lovely boy!

So today I met Ruby and this has to be one of the best success stories I've heard!
So Ruby’s back story;
She had a slipped disk when she was 4. That was 5 years ago and as you can see she loves life and is a very happy, and feisty Frenchie. Ruby had surgery but sadly as her injury was so severe it didn’t help. Her injury was classed as 4b (5 being the worst spinal injury).
She has the absolute life of our Goldendoodle Buddy who tolerates her ear and tail biting. Just as well he’s a gentle giant..! 🤣
Well done Ruby!

So today we went from one extreme to the other. We had Chance the XL Bully in for a castration who thought he was a lap dog and tried to sit on our Nurse's lap and Lorenzo the teenie tiny Chihuahua, also in for a castration who loved to be cradled like a baby, now I know he looks in pain but I caught the photo in a middle of a yawn while he was waking up from his surgery! Both dogs were absolutely adorable and extremely well mannered. Well done boys! Recover well!

February is Pet Dental Health Month!

Just like us, animals need regular dental care to prevent the build up of plaque and subsequent dental disease.

The gold standard is daily tooth brushing, just like we would do for ourselves. However we understand that not all of our furry friends are on board with this idea!

For advice on how to introduce a dental care regime, or if you would like your pets teeth checked, contact us for an appointment.

Do you have a tooth brushing superstar at home? Share photos of their smiles in the comments below!
