In December I had a meeting with Julie Jones-Evans and Lee Matthews, the manager for Recreation and Public Open Spaces at the council in Church Litten to discuss this proposal. Both were very helpful and we worked through the pros and cons of such an area and, whilst there’s still a long way to go, the answer wasn’t no but maybe!
Julie has invited me to discuss the proposal with Newport Parish Council to see if they can help in any way and Mr Matthews has said that he needs to discuss the proposal with the relevant parties such as the council, the church, etc.
We all agreed that the proposed area would have to be smaller than originally suggested (see attached picture) but still big enough for dogs to be able to exercise, etc. It was worked out that we would need roughly 40 metres of railings which would cost approximately £5000. Obviously the council has had a stop on unnecessary spending for now but one idea was that maybe there might be a way of somehow raising the funds publicly.
For my part I said that I would find out for definite how much interest there would be in this and if it would be used regularly. Obviously the finer details such as rules for using the area would need to discussed at a later date, depending on whether we got the go ahead.
