She is up and dressed every morning, ready to help clean out the pups and get involved with their stimulation and socialisation activities.

I am super proud of the effort she is showing to earn her Puppy……. All 6 of our kids, from 24 years to 8 years of age have an amazing work ethic - driven and determined, Every. Single. One.

💪🏼 x

Charlotte our Show team lead is off to Dachshund of the year on Saturday with Todd who was invited for his successes at the LKA champ show! A massive event on the calendar, and an utter credit to Charlotte!

I’m so gutted not to be able to go but with two litters at home and girls in season the control freak in me needs to be manning Preziosa HQ!

I’m sure you will all join me in wishing our Team and my fabulous friend the bestest of luck! ###

Throwback to Douxie [OZ]

Dorothy is currently in season and we would have gladly welcomed her 2025 litter in April however when checking our waiting list we had a large portion of our vetted families needing to differ onto a later list or some wanting to move to next year.

So simply - we will not breed her, this time round.

This means disappointing those wanting to go ahead sadly, but for us, we only ever breed when there is a robust list waiting.

I cannot think of anything worse than having puppies with no families to watch them grow from day 1 …… or no homes to go to at 8 weeks!

To join our smooth mini list for late 25/2026 please email for a vetting form

Another selection from our Tesoro Two Week Milestone photo shoot! As you can see we have peepers opening now! Which is just wonderful!

There were so many to choose from!

Luckily their parents get flooded with memories and will always have at least four pictures at every shoot of their puppy!

I’m sorry but this is Ruby in a nutshell.

With me (I am her person!) and her Babies, just loving life! Look at that expression, such a beautiful girl and such beautiful pups! 🖤

Our Stance on the Royal Kennel Club’s New IVDD Screening Recommendations

Preziosa Dachshunds®
January 16th 2025

As an ethical breeder with a proven commitment to the health and longevity of the Dachshund breed, Preziosa Dachshunds® takes every aspect of canine health extremely seriously. We proudly uphold our previous Kennel Club Assured Breeder ethics, from before its disbandment, and have always invested in advanced health testing, and embraced innovative socialisation and nutritional techniques to raise puppies that thrive.

However, we feel compelled to address the Royal Kennel Club’s recent announcement on IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) screening as a “minimum” standard.

We fully support efforts to reduce the prevalence of IVDD, a debilitating condition that impacts the lives of many Dachshunds. However, the current IVDD grading test does not provide conclusive or predictable results, nor does it offer definitive guidance for breeding decisions. While research into IVDD’s heritability and contributing factors continues, the science remains incomplete. Until robust, peer-reviewed data supports the predictive reliability of IVDD screening, we will not use our dogs as experimental subjects or risk compromising genetic diversity based on inconclusive testing.

A Personal Account, The Case of Hattie

When the IVDD grading test first became available, we were eager to support its potential. To this end, we selected Hattie, a carefully chosen dog from parents with perceived Low risk due to her Mother having a low grade IVDD score, and the Stud being a UK champion, and a senior dog with no IVDD history. This represented a IVDD scoring informed mating and offspring.

Hattie was tested at two years old, fit, healthy, lean, and raised under optimal conditions. Based on the current understanding of IVDD inheritance, we expected her to achieve a low-risk grade. However, her results were shockingly poor, categorising her as high risk.

This outcome raised significant ethical concerns. Despite being healthy, Hattie’s high IVDD grade meant we could not, in good conscience, breed her according to this flawed guidance. She was retired and spayed; despite her excellent nature and no identified health concerns by two vets. Her case starkly demonstrates that breeding low-risk parents does not guarantee low-risk offspring, raising critical questions about the reliability of the IVDD grading system as a breeding tool.

While IVDD grading may provide valuable data for research purposes, enforcing its use as a minimum breeding standard risks significant consequences:

Loss of Genetic Diversity

By de-selecting dogs based on non-conclusive data, the pool of breeding-quality Dachshunds narrows, increasing inbreeding risks and potentially introducing new health concerns.

Ethical Dilemmas for Breeders:

Hattie’s case highlights how conscientious breeders are forced into difficult decisions based on a test that lacks scientific certainty.

Undermining Proven Tests:

Established health tests like PRA Cord1 and BVA eye screening are now downgraded to “best practice,” a move that deprioritises proven measures in favour of speculative ones.

Our Commitment to the Breed

Preziosa Dachshunds® remains dedicated to eliminating IVDD, but we believe this must be achieved through rigorous, evidence-based approaches rather than premature and poorly understood methods. We will continue to:

Prioritise proven health tests that offer reliable, actionable insights.

Promote genetic diversity and avoid breeding practices that could narrow the gene pool.

Educate owners on lifestyle factors that can reduce IVDD risks, such as proper diet, exercise, and weight management.

Our passion for the Dachshund breed drives us to make decisions grounded in science, ethics, and the long-term well-being of our dogs. Until the IVDD grading test demonstrates clear, replicable results that breeders can trust, we will not subject our dogs or their future offspring to the risks of unproven de-selection.

This position reflects our unwavering commitment to the health, integrity, and future of the Dachshund breed. Together, we can work towards meaningful solutions that are both ethical and scientifically sound.

We urge the Royal Kennel Club to reconsider its position and focus on supporting further research and collaboration with breeders to find solutions that truly benefit our beloved breed.

What a wonderful milestone - I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’s flown by! I blinked and they are one week old. Our good girl Ruby has got them to double their birthweight already! And with Murtle still looking for a lap, I wonder if it should be mine?!
