Just a little something to clear up, we are a rescue & rehome, not a sanctuary.

We will only take in a rescue if we felt there was a strong chance of rehoming a snake, we might not always be right with our decisions but we will always take the welfare of the snake seriously.

Quick update on what we are doing, Caesar our Albino white phase Royal python is doing really well, he’s putting on some reyt timber, he just had a shed and happy to say that a couple of damaged scales cleared up after he had shed.

We have added a Super Dwarf Reticulated Python to our personal collection, we called her Harley Quinn. She’s a Kayuadi Albino Purple phase.

Other pics include our own Royal Pandora and our BCI Boa called Maia.

The reptile rescue room work is on-going and pleased that it’s holding temperature nicely after insulation improvements.

We currently have 7 empty 3ft snake vivariums ready, also a 4ft all ready to rumble

We also have a heated rack system under construction which will cater for anything from hatchling to adult royal python

Today we met some lovely people who kindly donated their unwanted 4x2x2 vivarium and accessories

If you want to donate any equipment to help rescue unwanted snakes we would be very grateful and we will gladly collect.

Caesar’s first small adult rat, I’m pretty sure we have now ascertained the perfect prey size for him.
Notice how he hesitated before striking, some would think he’s not hungry, always be patient and keep trying.

Here at Fort Knox Snakes we are quite knowledgeable on feeding, we are not all knowing but we rarely fail to get a snake to feed, there are lots of tips and tricks to feeding. Detailed posts coming soon.

Does your snake have mites? Little tiny black bugs that crawl all over your snake, they burrow under the scales and drink snake blood, they can also congregate around the eyes and in the snakes mouth.
They make your pet feel lousy, can stop them from feeding, but more importantly snake mites can pass on pathogens that can kill your snake.

Beaphar is a mite spray for your snake, avoiding the head and tail, spray your snake and use your hand to spread it all over, leave your snake wet with the spray and put it back in its enclosure, remove all sources of water for 1 hour, repeat every day until the spray is gone. 24 hours after the last spray, give your snake a shallow bath in tepid water with a drop of dish soap, just a drop. Your snake will love it.

If this fails, use Taurrus mites, this is not common knowledge, Taurrus mites are live predatory mites that search out and eat snake mites and eggs. They are harmless to you and your snake, and once the snake mites and eggs are gone, they just die off.

Both of these treatments are available at most reptile stores, though the Taurrus mites could be special order as they are live mites and have a shelf life.

Thank you for visiting Fort Knox Snakes - we rescue & rehome unwanted snakes throughout South Yorkshire.

Firstly we will try to understand why your snake is unwanted - quite often you will be scared of your snake as it hissed at you, or tried to bite you, 99% of the time this is down to the absence of knowledge and understanding of your slithery friend.

If you have gone beyond the point of no return we will take in your snake, we do ask for a donation which varies on the the species and size of the snake, minimum is £25, maximum is £50 especially if there is a health issue, this goes towards food, medication and other running costs.
