Week 2 - he’s a blinder - let’s get a head start on training him
My god this boy is just amazing ! So clever, loves the sessions. Big and bouncy and a little excitable when the toys come out, but he quickly learns over exuberance won’t get him what he wants any quicker and calms down
Applications officially open for him ❤️

We do want a home where this work will continue - because he is so so happy when he’s training
A word about LGDs
This is my most difficult dog (at home). As a livestock guardian breed it’s her job to protect me and the Loki’s fam, and she would die doing so. Great to deter burglars, not so good for visitors, and not something you can train out of them. It’s in their blood.
Out of the house she’s now a breeze 99% of the time. I’m no trainer, it’s taken a year - but this is how we got there :
- Never off lead - she’s 50kg - if she really wanted to have a go at someone I wouldn’t be able to stop her
- Always wears her head harness. Allows me to guide her, and she chooses not to pull when she’s wearing it She took a few weeks to accept it -now she’s very happy wearing it
- Never glued to my phone the entire time when I walk her (apart from filming this snippet). If I want her to relax on her walks - I have to be mega alert so she doesn’t feel she needs to be.
- Constant narrative - we talk about everything and anything. Well - I talk, she ignores
- We never walk directly towards another dog unless there is loads of space - because I don’t know what that other dog will do (that she might need to react to). We pull into the side and i sit next to her while the other dog passes, or we turn around and walk the other way.
- I control her environment for her - if i see a trigger we will try and avoid it. She trusts me to do that
Today on our way home she walked past a pack of large very territorial dogs - and she didn’t break stride - just glanced over. Bloody superstar ❤️
None of the above is rocket science - it’s just changed the status quo on walks from her protecting me to me protecting her. And because she knows I’m protecting her on walks - she’s able to relax and just enjoy it. Which makes walking her an absolute pleasure.
She’s not perfect - she’s still a complete knob at home. And my other dogs are lovely at home, knobs on the end of a lead. But - if these tips can help anyone struggling with their dogs (I know some of y

Gorgeous goldies
Happy Golden Retriever Day
❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️🦮❤️
17 goldies and 6 golden cross breeds in 2 years. Yikes.
For a rescue who does not work with breeders (legitimate or otherwise) to take spent dogs, and does not import from Europe - we’re really proud of those numbers for a breed that does not end up in rescue so often. Whilst we’re not exclusively breed specific, we have to admit a definite preference to working with this amazing breed.
We are incredibly proud to work closely with a number of organisations, including our nearest GR societies, and we’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to help them with some dogs that came with behavioural issues best suited to general rescue. Thankfully the GR is so willing to trust people again, that in the right hands and with the right training and input, these dogs can be rehabbed. Testament to their character in the fact that only one (ahem … Luna ) has not successfully stayed in their original chosen home.
So to our wonderful dogs …
Athena, Hera, Bonnie, Luna (1), Shadow, Maya, Red, Casey, JP, Charlie, Malu, Maxine, Monty, Douglas, Luna (the naughty one), and remembering the beautiful Myrtle and Jade who we lost last year
And the crosses Loki, Tigger, Ebony, Hattie, Arlo and Daisy
Have a very happy golden retriever day - make sure you some extra treats from the hoomans
And to your mums and dads - thank you 🙏
Some of these dogs have had very tough lives and difficult journeys to recovery. Many of those journeys are not over and probably never will be. Your love, perseverence and patience is why they’ve made the progress they have and we are astonishingly grateful for that and for you ❤️❤️
Second breakfast
Had to do a biiiiig road trip today on mum taxi duties … would have been rude not to divert and treat the most lovely of boys JP the rescue Golden Retriever to breakfast ❤️❤️❤️
Stumpy and Legoless ….. the time has come
Our little bundles of naughty loveliness leave for their new home next week. Well - I say leave … they’re simply stopping their to-ing and fro-ing as their wonderful shared care foster mummy decided she couldn’t possible let them go after all those sleepless nights, worry, pride and love - and so she is adopting them ❤️❤️
Plus she’s a neighbour and friend so we’ll still get to see them grow up. The rescue will continue to have medical responsibility for them until they (well - Legoless) are signed off post amputation which will be in around 1.5 months time all being well
In honour of their incredibly journey, 2 little cats with the odds stacked against them who should not have survived … here is their story in 2 minutes as a final update on these beautiful little fighters
They say it takes a village to raise a child - it certainly took a village to save these kittens and we’re eternally grateful to everyone who found, donated, supported, helped in any way, and most of all cheered them on
After much coaxing, tempting, standing in the biscuits sending them flying and slight (and temporary) watering down of milk ….finally we’re BOTH on solids ❤️❤️ (oh and he’s now 620g, she’s 700g) !!
The slight tremble is joy - nothing worrying 🙂
EDIT: Operation Cancelled - the leg is in better shape than they imagined so aim to get him bigger (2kg) before they operate as long as he stays infection free
And little Legoless
Start weight 130g
4 week weight 511g
He’s been going great guns and is the sweetest boy you ever could meet. We’re ridiculously besotted with him.
Now he’s hit the 500g, we’ve spoken to the vet, and he’s going in tomorrow for his surgery. Absolutely heart wrenching decision - he feels so young to have a big operation like this, but he is at constant risk of an infection if we don’t. The vets will cancel the op if they don’t feel he’s going to cope with it - but it’s still a big op on a little thing and we will be in pieces most of the day waiting to hear he’s ok 😫
Wish him luck - he’s fought so hard to make it this far, just one more big challenge to face
MOLLY - ADOPTED
Our beautiful sweet Molly who had such a rotten Christmas when we were asked to move her out of her foster on Boxing Day after a couple of days for being unable to be taken out for a walk because she was so terrified …..
Her foster has done exactly what Molly needed. Alllowd her to decompress, and let her set the pace without allowing her to reinforce any of her fears . And within days the Molly we knew was back ❤️
Today her amazing foster who collected her for us at zero notice and took her in asked whether we’d be happy to make the arrangement permanent
Happy doesn’t come anywhere near how we feel. She’s just landed her perfect home ❤️
What on Earth are you dreaming about Basil ? (Sound needed)

CURRENT ADOPTERS AND FOSTERS
Had a few niggly behaviour issues coming out with a couple of placed dogs these past few weeks - most of which are obnoxious teenager issues or standard rescue issues, completely normal but do need nipping in the bud.
We are 100% here to support through those and give you the tools to manage them (as well as pop out to see our local ones … any excuse for a cuddly catch up with them)
Many of our adopters and fosters may be unaware that on our website we have an ever growing list of common problems and how to resolve them fact sheets. We do all this stuff and forget to communicate it until it’s needed 😀😀.

We add to it all the time so keep checking back in
P.S. Anyone out there who is struggling with a dog’s (not one of ours) behaviour or habits and considering giving them up as a result - every dog that stays out of rescue is a win for everyone right now - so give us a shout if you need any help advice. We do respect other rescues RBU arrangements so we will check whether they are supporting first. We are NOT qualified trainers and behaviourists so we’ll happily give you some help on the more routine stuff that we come across every day but anything more complicated we do work with some absolutely amazing trainers and behaviourists that we can refer you to !

Firstly - Mr Zuckerberg obviously likes our page as he's upgrading our page ... Whoop. Last time this happened on a page i admin all the likes disappeared, so if you happen to see this before the upgrade, please bookmark, save or follow us so we don't disappear
Secondly - Tazz
Our little pirate is doing amazingly Along with his being is a peg leg bless him, he's found his little bark and it is the arggghhhh of a pirate rather than a bark. Currently considering renaming him Jack Sparrow
He's growing like a weed. There is a visible size difference every few days.
And for a boy who's man bits haven't dropped yet ... he's certainly a very ballsy little character.
If he would just stop trying to chew my laptop and it's charger while i'm working, he'd be about perfect.
WE ARE CLOSING HIS APPLICATIONS AT 5PM TODAY
We've had many lovely apps and are completely confident at one of them being his perfect home. We will change his status at 5pm, and any futher applications that come in after that that are for him will be autodeclined.
And just for fun .... guess who has decided he's the boss of the house 😃
