Beautiful Portia gazing wistfully out of the newly barred windows (we don’t live in a prison - 6 cats and 30 degree heat - we desperately needed some air - we discovered that Eglu chicken run panels fit well enough to keep her safely inside) thinking no doubt that’s its time to go and find herself a man again …. when a wee timely photobomb reminds her of why that would be a terrible idea 😀

After a frustrating 4 weeks in the “hospital wing” clearing up her milk after a gut infection Violent Violet is off to see Uncle John Taylor Vets for her spay (lucky vets - she didn’t cover herself in glory last time she was there)

A few weeks recovery and she’ll be able to be redeployed as a mouser … we don’t want to release her back where she was trapped as it’s right by a hideously busy road. So anyone with a barn or stable who wants a rodent controller - please do shout. She’s no cost as the donations we’ve had for her. Kittens have covered the cost of her spay.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STUMPY & LEGOLESS (now Jill and Jack)

Wishing our two little miracle babies the happiest of HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAYs 🎁 🎈 🎊

How the hell we got them here I will never know … many weeks of bottle making, sterilising, hand feeding, tummy stimulation (iykyk), vet visits, antibiotics and smelling of kitten wee and formula.

They shouldn’t have lived - the odds were hugely stacked against them - but they were the most amazing little fighters determined to prove everyone wrong.

Now living their best lives with their amazing adoptive (was shared foster) mum and dad, and big brother of the canine variety who have made them a wonderful birthday breakfast of prawns, pate and a side portion of dreamies ❤️

And then there were three …… surprise surprise it’s the all black boys 😀

One of these will definitely have a home - but as yet to be decided which one (we match on personality rather than appearance) but there are definitely 2 still available.

Simon - he was the little runt of the litter but has caught up and is now the same size as his siblings. Very friendly and loves a cuddle. Will always approach you. Raised with cats and dogs, and older children. Will be fine in a home with cat friendly pets and respectful kids.

Philip - the one with the less obvious smoke black markings. He’s a boy who loves to play with other cats so we’d either like him to go with one of his brothers, or to a home with another friendly cat. He’d not be well suited to a home with very young children as they’re too noisy and grabby in his opinion - so older kids or just an adult home will be perfect for him

Gregory - very clear smoke black markings. Friendly, playful, a bit bossy. Quite independent. Happy to be picked up for a cuddle - but he decides when the cuddle is over. Runs over to investigate whatever you’re doing. Less happy with the dog than the others but would suit a home with another cat in

Kittens ❤️

We’ve had one ghoster and two cancellations on the reservations for the kittens … so quick round up

Litter 1
Colin and Daphne NOW RESERVED - these two really need to go as a pair as they are super bonded.

Litter 2
Edmund NOW RESERVED
Phillip, Gregory and Simon are all still available - whilst we’ve had plenty of interest given the fluidity of some of the commitments we can’t reserve unless donations are paid as we’ve been doing the Hokey Cokey on them - so technically all are still available until we have firm reservations.

All kittens have been raised with children, dogs and other cats and are really well socialised. Litter 2 adore my little dog and the household cats. They all have their own little personalities now - so we will match characters to households where possible

We are also looking for a cosy barn home for violet - she’s not at all happy being handled so won’t make a good pet - but would make a fantastic mouser for someone

Kittens - come on - we still need a few homes for these guys. I’m not ready to become local mad cat lady ! (some say I already am - it’s just not limited to cats)

VIOLET (mum of litter ) - she’s semi feral. Happy to be within a few feet of you if you have food for her - NOT happy to be handled. Would make a lovely barn / farm / stable cat to keep down the rodent population (but would need feeding and caring for as well). Shes awaiting test results and once they’re through she will be spayed and available as she’s no longer with the kittens (poo problems)

PORTIA (mum of litter 2) - absolutely lovely friendly girl once she trusts you. Currently very thin after feeding her kittens (who are BIG) so once they’re weaned needs feeding up before spay. No health issues evident (other than her condition post feeding) - very gentle, happy to be stroked, almost finished weaning the monsters and when not with them just goes and snoozes under the pet. Ok with dogs - will hiss as a warning but no dramatics.

EDMUND - cheeky, naughty, greedy, funny. If there are shenanigans to be had he will be at the centre of it. First in the food bowl, loves to lie on your shoulder and sleep, very happy to be cuddled but equally happy to go off adventuring.

SIMON - the little one of the litter but he’s almost caught up to his brothers and sister. Such a gentle soul - as soon as you put your hand out to him he’ll come and clamber into it for cuddles. Enjoys play fighting with the others Likes being carried, curls up into your neck for a sleep. Absolute cuddle monster.

All others currently have reserved homes - but may be available again if any of those homes back out

Now all of our adopters have been informed …. very sad to say that we are closing our doors permanently

We’ve always run lean financially - rarely asking for public donations as we felt we had to be financially sustainable so relied on adoption donations coming in to cover the expenses on the next dog.

Sadly the outgoings on each animal have far outweighed any donations for the last year and we’ve been burning through our reserves. The recent fundraisers we have put up have helped us limp through another few weeks - but times are tough for everyone - everyone is begging for cash - and there isn’t enough money to spread between all the different rescues. Hardly anyone is applying for animals, let alone going through to adopt.

We’ve personally funded the rescue for the last few months to ensure the animals we had already committed to were safe - but the debts (to ourselves) are now in the thousands - which we simply can’t recover from. Without funds we can’t take any more animals on.

The 2 people in process for the kittens have been contacted and will be managed “offline”.

Existing adopters have already been contacted and we will continue to provide rescue backup for those animals

It’s a heartbreaking decision and we are truly devastated - but would like to thank every one of our fosters and adopters for giving these animals a lifeline and a happy ever after ❤️

Our lovely little turweston litter are now having to fend for themselves.

Sadly we’ve had to remove mum as she was evidently struggling with some “digestive issues” - and as it’s not responded to the usual worming and parasite treatments - she’s had to be popped to the vets and under their guidance has been separated from the kittens in case it’s contagious (now they’re all pottering around independently it’s impossible to prevent cross infection)

Thankfully they’re all on solid food and were only using mum for comfort - also we’ve added some Lactol for supplement milk. A little earlier then we wanted to have them away from mum - but important to make sure they’re protected

We still only have 2 applications for these guys despite much early interest so if you were
considering please do pop an application in otherwise we will need to ask one of the big cat charities to take them ☹️

Wilbur and Arthur

These two golden retriever boys desperately need new homes (separately - they’re unrelated but similar issues so one post should suffice)

They are both males aged 3-4, both delightful friendly dogs BUT they are both lead reactive towards other dogs . This is an issue that requires training and patience - but can be resolved with the right owner and environment

They are not under Lokis - sadiy our financial position is not recoverable and we will be closing once the kittens are rehomed - but given these are the issues we deal with day in day out, we are assisting the rescue (golden retriever society) to find and assess appropriate homes and support with settling in and rescue backup

Wilbur has been in kennels now for around 8 weeks. He is good with dogs after careful introductions, hates cats. Older teen children ok

Arthur has also been with the kennels a few weeks, having had both of his hips replaced so had been through the wringer recently - he’s bounced back beautifully and is waiting for his final sign off from the vets. Good with other dogs after sensible introductions, untested with cats, older children only.

These really are super dogs - they just need homes willing to put a little bit of work in socialising the boys with other dogs

They will be ready to leave once they are weaned, and have had first vaccinations

Under each photo is name, gender and a little about each kitten. Mum Portia is also available for adoption once her babies have found homes and she’s been neutered. The kittens have been in foster with visibility of (although no direct contact with yet) children, dogs and other cats. Mum is really sweet - happy now to be given some fuss. The kittens (well 4 of them ) appear to be Maine Coone crosses so are going to be chonky cats.

KITTENS - costs and a few FAQs

The kittens will cost £150 each . These are “at cost” figures - we are only asking for their medical bills to be covered - we are covering everything else. This includes vaccinations, microchipping and neutering.

FAQs that we’ve been asked by some people - so sharing for everyone :

1. Why are you neutering so early ?
Cats are sexually mature at 4 months, and there are no evidenced detrimental physical or psychological effects to neutering at 12 weeks as long as the kitten is healthy and at an appropriate weight. There is significant physical and psychological harm possible from very young sexual activity / pregnancy. We neuter before releasing cats as the cycle of unwanted litters in cats is a huge problem nationwide and needs to be controlled. None of our kittens will go on to have litters of their own - so to make sure of that we neuter before adopting them

2. Can we take the kitten early if we neuter and do the second vax ourselves
- no, the kittens need to stay with mum until they’re at least 12 weeks to ensure they are fully weaned, socialised and have learned how to cat. Leaving any earlier can cause physical and psychological issues.

3. Can we do a payment plan ?
Sadly the rescue has no money - we’ve been hit by some huge bills on dogs over the last year and one of the rescue founders is having to personally fund the costs associated with raising and providing medical treatment to these kittens. This is coming to over £2,500. The rescue needs to repay this from the adoption fees and so sadly we can’t offer payment plans post adoption date. We can offer payment plans in advance of adoption once you’ve been accepted and homechecked but adoption fees must be paid before the kitten is collected

4. If the rescue has no money why not pass them onto another rescue.
Sadly most other rescues are also inundated with unwanted animals and the smaller rescues are in the same boat financially. There is simply no space in rescue any more

5. Why not save some money and not neuter them ?
See point 1. No kitten should have to go through pregnancy at a young age - ensuring they are neutered before they go is the only responsible thing to do

6. You won’t find homes at the price you’re charging - you should let them go cheaper
We know people can pick up kittens from Facebook / pets4homes cheaper. These outlets tend to pass the cost of neutering and vaccinations onto the new owner so it will cost you more in the long run as our vet does offer us a special rate for the animals in our care. We also make sure that the kittens are happy, healthy, wormed, flea treated and well socialised before they go. You also have the feel good factor of knowing that mum will never have to go through another pregnancy, but ultimately it is the choice of the adopter 😌

7. Do i have a choice of kitten ?
Feel free to put a preference down, remember though that gender and personality are more important then appearance - the kitten you see today will not look the same as an adult. In our experience neutered male cats are very cuddly and bonded, females more independent and single minded - but the personality of the cat should align to your lifestyle (don’t put a shy timid kitten in a house with 3 dogs and 5 kids for example). Some of the kittens will be more popular than others (Anthony !) - if your application is approved but youre not selected for the kitten you specified we will of course offer you another. If you do not want any other than the one you’ve applied for - please make that clear in your application

8. Can we come and see them ?
Yes - Litter 1 are now ready to view , Litter 2 can be viewed in a couple of weeks once the kittens are feeding independently and mum is happy to let them out of her sight for 30 second. We will arrange for shortlisted applicants to pop along and confirm their preferences

So this week - we had to do a cat n kit rescue in the exact way we say it should never be done 👀

Mum and her young babies (2 weeks ish ) in a derelict shed, disturbed by the homeowner who did what she thought was best, which was to remove kittens (shed wasn’t very safe) in the hope mum would follow. Which she obviously didn’t. We asked the homeowner to put the kittens back and just see what she does - if she returns and settles, we can come in and trap them together

She moved the kittens that night, and after being disturbed again, finally ended up taking them under another neighbours decking.

It’s an area plagued with stray cats, and she was being terrorised by one particular male (we will return to get him for the ✂️ later) - so she must have been feeling very unsafe and wasn’t returning to her babies more than once every 12 hours or so.

We located the kittens under the decking using drain cams and the thermal cam - and luckily for us they were right behind the kick board on one side. We did a quick condition check and confirmed all 5 kittens alive, but a couple not so well.

Cleared the area and sat back to watch the cams for the next 6-7 hours. 139 million other cats in the garden - no mum

Midnight kitten check - one was half dead, another very limp. None had called for mum since the last check. Very very difficult decision made to get the kittens out rather than leave them there.

Trap moved very close to the entrance to the decking and kittens removed (never do this if you can avoid it)

They were STARVING - obviously hasn’t eaten in a long time, so all had a good feed, popped on a heat pad overnight, while we tried to get mum into the trap

Thank goodness we managed to catch her late last night, and once she’d calmed down (she was MAD) she was very carefully reintroduced to her babies in the wee small hours after nearly 2 days apart

She’s had a good feed - and she’s slept and slept and slept. She’s very happy to lie feeding her kittens but given their condition not sure how much she’s feeding them -so rest and nutrition are the order of the day now

If you ever find a nursing queen and her babies - as tempting as it is - leave them be and call in one of the rescue who can trap Mum is always best placed to raise them, and it’s actually easier to trap when we have them still together. This one has ended very happily - but hand feeding is hard work, and often unsuccessful - and it we hadn’t got mum back that would have been the only option.

So - we’re now at 10 babies and 2 queens who will be ready for rehoming after neutering if anyone is looking for a new cat 😫

P.s the little one who was so flat when we made the decision to remove is very very small but has definitely perked up since getting some food in him. 🤞

Well that was an hour of conflicting emotions

The wonderful Douglas has been adopted today, and his adopter added a very unexpected and very much appreciated considerable "extra" to his adoption donation.

Sadly 10 minutes later we got the bill for the little foster we got from the pound back in January. Little Angel was booked in for her spay (we had to wait for her season) next month - but sadly developed an infection last week so it had to be turned into an emergency. So a £400 predicted bill has turned into a £2700 bill. Unfortunately, we can't challenge some of the items on here as it's already been agreed and paid.

We can cover £700 of it - but A and I will have to come up with the £2000 between us.

The blue are those things the foster has very kindly paid for

The pink are ours.

We hate asking for donations - particularly when these are the final payments that are going to finish us off ... but if anyone felt in any way as though they were able to help at all .. we'd be terribly grateful

Little emergency dash down the road today after a call to say a lady had found 5 very young kittens in her stable yard

Slightly complicated situation due to the age of the kittens and the location they were in - so we had to cobble together a bit of a pick n mix using the cat trap and a dog crate - popped the kittens into the crate, opened up the trap into the crate - and secured all escape routes with whatever we could find in the barn and the car 🤣

Left them alone for a while so I could go and charge the cameras - and when I returned an hour later, good as gold mum had gone in to find her babies and the trap did its thing

Dismantling the contraption took even longer than setting it up as we didn’t want her to shoot out - but with the aid of 723 cable ties and a horse rug we managed to get them all safely into the car.

VERY young mother, but she’s done so well looking after these kittens - but how anyone has let an obviously pet cat get pregnant as this age defies belief.

She’s settled and feeding them for the night - and off to foster in the morning.

For adoption : Keira

Remember this little one ? Well she’s been at school
for 5 weeks training to be a sniffer dog.

She did REALLY well but sadly failed her final exam as - whilst she was brilliant when it was quiet - when the environment was noisy and busy she got distracted. The bar is high for these assessments, many fail, and we are super proud of her for lasting the full course.

She needs a home where she will be given a job. She’s a busy bee and a real people pleaser so needs to have a job or activity - be that agility or gun dog training or the like.

Adores people, loves other dogs - ok with dog savvy cats (she’ll chase if they scarper but won’t hurt them)

Pure working cocker - so she’s high energy and very very bright.

Sometimes - our own problems about funding Freddy get put into perspective.

Liam is one of Loki Child 1’s uni housemates.

Liam is only 21 years old and last Friday, as lots of the students were making preparations for their final term time night out, he had to call the boys in the house to let them know that he was on the way home from Bangor Hospital having just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

My own dad died from this sh*tty disease, but he was 64, having had a full - if too short - life. To receive this diagnosis at a mere 21 years old is devastating.

He’s at home for now, but treatment will be led from Bangor - which is a long way from home. If anyone can dig out any spare pennies to take some of the burden from his mums shoulders- it would be amazing. I’m sure when Lokis Child comes home next week he’ll also be thinking about some outlandish ways of fundraising as well .

Hi, my name is Dawn and I am raising money to help my friend (who is like my sister) and her … Dawn Ward needs your support for Support to help Marie and Liam

To pay Freddy’s ongoing kennelling bills we sadly need to start selling our missing pet finding kit. We have personally been funding his stay so far but with no applications and none of our foster dogs moving through to adoption we need to raise some money and the only things the have of any worth are the equipment we use for finding missing dogs.

- Dji Mavic Classic 3 only used a handful of times. Still under warranty. Cost £1200 - highest offer by PM
- Vulcan dog trap - £150 (cost £268 new) (the second Vulcan was donated to us and won’t be sold - once our cameras etc are gone we wil donate that to another reunification team)
- thermal scope - cost £900 new - £500
- 2 x ring doorbell and mobile hubs - £60 each
- trail camera (manual check) - £20
- 3 x 4g trail cams - £80 each
- 2 x cat traps - £30 each

If you’re interested in any of these items please do drop us a message to the page

This is my most difficult dog (at home). As a livestock guardian breed it’s her job to protect me and the Loki’s fam, and she would die doing so. Great to deter burglars, not so good for visitors, and not something you can train out of them. It’s in their blood.

Out of the house she’s now a breeze 99% of the time. I’m no trainer, it’s taken a year - but this is how we got there :

- Never off lead - she’s 50kg - if she really wanted to have a go at someone I wouldn’t be able to stop her
- Always wears her head harness. Allows me to guide her, and she chooses not to pull when she’s wearing it She took a few weeks to accept it -now she’s very happy wearing it
- Never glued to my phone the entire time when I walk her (apart from filming this snippet). If I want her to relax on her walks - I have to be mega alert so she doesn’t feel she needs to be.
- Constant narrative - we talk about everything and anything. Well - I talk, she ignores
- We never walk directly towards another dog unless there is loads of space - because I don’t know what that other dog will do (that she might need to react to). We pull into the side and i sit next to her while the other dog passes, or we turn around and walk the other way.
- I control her environment for her - if i see a trigger we will try and avoid it. She trusts me to do that

Today on our way home she walked past a pack of large very territorial dogs - and she didn’t break stride - just glanced over. Bloody superstar ❤️

None of the above is rocket science - it’s just changed the status quo on walks from her protecting me to me protecting her. And because she knows I’m protecting her on walks - she’s able to relax and just enjoy it. Which makes walking her an absolute pleasure.

She’s not perfect - she’s still a complete k**b at home. And my other dogs are lovely at home, k**bs on the end of a lead. But - if these tips can help anyone struggling with their dogs (I know some of you have similar dogs at home) then all good.

Caveat - no matter how much I love this girl, she shouldn’t be in this country. My life has been much harder since she landed on my doorstep. I didn’t choose to have her, but I wouldn’t let her go back once she arrived as an emergency foster. I see similar dogs being imported every day, and I see most of them end up dead or in kennels because the adopters had no idea what they were signing up for, or how big they would get. They aren’t designed for a domestic life - and unless you know exactly what you’re taking on, and how to manage a very large guardian breed - you WILL regret it. And if you’re a rescue reading this - please STOP importing them. The occasional one lucks out - but most have a miserable life here being passed from home to home and then ending up in kennels or worse,
