This page started in 2013 with Bella, our 1st Bolognese, to record all her adventures. Arkadian now has 5 Bolognese: Bella, Cara, Max, Amy & Enzo.

She went on to have 3 puppies, we became addicted to the breed and so the Arkadian kennel affix was born. Bolognese originate from Italy and are a member of the Bichon (meaning little white dog) family which includes Maltese, Bichon Frise, Havanese, Coton de Tulear & Lowchen. They are a small friendly and sometimes reserved breed known for their beautiful flocked white coats and adorable personali

ties. As a rare toy breed and companion dog they love to be included in all aspects of family life and make great pets. At Arkadian we have 3 girls and 2 boys. Bella is normally very quiet and chilled out until she sees a cat. She loves chasing the pigeons and doves out of the garden. She is so well behaved that we wanted another one, so she had puppies and it grew from there. Cara is the smallest, she doesn’t like certain sounds (fireworks, bin lorries, etc) and sometimes gets quite stressed by them. Push her enough though and she will fight her corner. Max gets excitable when he sees other dogs and just wants to play. Annoyingly, he uses his weight to push the girls out of the way when he wants attention - typical boy! Amy is very sociable, excitable and can jump very high. She loves to raid the waste bins for bits of paper or tissue to chew up and leave around the house. She also steals all the toys and stock piles them. Enzo is the baby of the family. He is as cute as a button and has a promising show career to look forward to. Mark & Diane Whateley

We all had a very enjoyable day yesterday at Darlington Championship Show where we had entered 3 dogs.

We only entered Enzo and his son Dino at Richmond Championship show on Sunday. It was very muddy following three days of torrential rain and the inside/outside rings were consequently restricted in size. For a change, Bolognese were second in the ring so judging was over well before lunch.

We entered Horley and District Premier Open thinking we could combine it with a trip to the seaside. It was held yesterday and was a lovely and very well run show. It started off sunny and warm but got colder and windy in the afternoon. It was great to meet up with Melanie and Amy’s brother Harry. We had only entered Enzo and his son Dino who both did extremely well.

After a month on the road our beautiful Amy (Belstown Beloved Amee at Arkadian) celebrated her 6th birthday today exploring the grounds of Croft Castle (NT) before heading home for her birthday treats which she shared with her six kennel mates. During our road trip she was entered into four out of the five shows. In one she won Reserve Best Bitch in Breed and in another Best Bitch in Breed.

It has rained all afternoon at Welsh Kennel Club Championship show. Despite that we’ve had a good day with 3 entered in Any Variety Rare Breeds and 4 in the Breed classes. Our star today was Amy who won Best Bitch.

We’ve had a lovely weekend with two shows on the same site. We entered 3 dogs in Bournemouth Open on Friday and 5 dogs in Bournemouth Championship today.

An amazing critique of Dino from Breed Specialist Daphne Watson who judged us at North East Toy Dog Championship Show....

"The Bolognese were of good quality, sound, well presented & good temperaments. My BOB was a stunning male just coming up to 1yr old, so square, well constructed & presented, combined with lovely temperament, one to watch for sure!
Whateley’s Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari, lovely puppy just 4 days shy of 1yr, so very square in outline & well balanced all over, he had a lovely skull of correct proportions, nice dark round expressive eye & black halos, ears set well & high, perfect clean dentition, well developed forequarters, good medium length of neck reaching into body with good spring of rib, correct oval shaped feet with black pads & nails - something that is sadly lacking now & hard to retain in the breed - his coat was well presented with correct lovely flocking over body, correct high tailset which was carried well over body as he moved with drive & purpose, super temperament & good example of the breed, BP & BOB"

At the halfway point of the Our Dogs Top Puppy competition we are very proud to announce that Dino (Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari) is currently Top Bolognese Puppy and 4th Rare Breed Puppy. He is out of puppy now and so it’s unlikely that he will retain his ranking but it is super to be able to add this to his list of achievements.

Happy 1st Birthday to our little star Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari (Dino).. Where has the time gone. It only seems like yesterday when you took your first steps in the show ring.
Dino is pictured here with some of his rosettes.
In the last six months he has done 30 shows all over the UK helping to promote the beautiful Bolognese breed.

Yesterday we were at Thame and Oxfordshire Premier Open Show where Dino didn’t disappoint in his last ever show as a Puppy. We did really well under Breed Judge John Green with the following results:

🌟 Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari (Dino) - Best Puppy in Breed, Reserve Best of Breed and Puppy Group 3. He also came 2nd out of large entry in the AV Harvest Puppy Dog Stakes (judged by Ed Casey).

Had an amazing day at the first North East of England Toy Dog Championship Show yesterday. Under breed specialist Daphne Watson:

🌟 Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian (Enzo) got 1st Open Dog and Reserve Best Dog

🌟 Lyckalotte Holly at Arkadian (Holly) was 1st Post Graduate Bitch and Reserve Best Bitch

🌟 Belstown Beloved Amee at Arkadian (Amy) came 2nd in Open Bitch

Enzo also did well to be shortlisted from a large entry in the Memorial Open Stakes.

The wind was really blowing at Boston & DCS Championship show yesterday for Toy and Hound day.

We have also heard today confirmation that Dino is Top Bolognese Puppy at the halfway point in the Our Dogs Top Puppy Competition.

An amazing day yesterday at Derbyshire County Show. It was very hot but we all stayed in the shade of the gazebo with a fan and plenty to drink. Our team of Enzo, Amy and Dino exceeded our expectations by getting RESERVE BEST RARE BREED IN SHOW and BEST RARE BREED PUPPY IN SHOW. We unfortunately missed the AV Puppy and Brace Stakes as we couldn’t be in two places at the same time but the breakdown of results is as follows:

We were very lucky with the weather yesterday at Border Union Championship Show. Our team did us proud again, especially in the Any Variety Rare Breed Toy, Working, Pastoral and Utility where Dino (Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari) got Best Puppy Dog, Best Dog and Best Opposite S*x despite slipping his lead in the ring. His Dad Enzo (Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian) took 1st Open Dog and Reserve Best Dog.

We had a busy weekend with Three Counties Championship Show on Saturday and Ashfield Premier Open Show on Sunday so we’ve taken some time to chill out since.

A cold and breezy day yesterday at Southern Counties Championship Show however team Arkadian did well and received the following placings:

🌟 Arkadian Alfredo Ferrari (Dino): In AV Rare Breeds, under Patsy Hollings, he got 1st Puppy Dog, Best Rare Breed Puppy & Best Opposite S*x Rare Breed. In the Breed Classes, under Derfel Owen, he got 1st Puppy Dog.

🌟 Lyckalotte Enzo Ferrari at Arkadian (Enzo): Reserve (and £10) in AV Charity Open Stakes under Jeff Horswell. 1st Open Dog and Reserve Best Dog in AV Rare Breeds. In the Breed Classes he got 2nd in Open Dog.

🌟 Lyckalotte Holly at Arkadian (Holly): In AV Rare Breeds she was 1st Post Graduate Bitch and Reserve Best Bitch. In the breed classes she was 3rd in Post Graduate Bitch.

🌟 Belstown Beloved Amee at Arkadian (Amy): She got 2nd place AV Rare Breeds Open Bitch and 3rd in the Breed classes Open Bitch.

Despite it being a very cold day at WELKS yesterday ARKADIAN ALFREDO FERRARI got 1st Puppy Dog and 🌟BEST PUPPY IN BREED🌟. LYCKALOTTE ENZO FERRARI was 2nd Open Dog won £25 and 1st Place in Sybil Churchill Open Stakes (Toy/Working). ARKADIAN BELOVED DIANA was 2nd in Veteran Bitch. BELSTOWN BELOVED AMEE was 2nd in Open Bitch. LYCKALOTTE HOLLY was 2nd in Post Graduate Bitch.

It was very wet at Spire Toy Dog Show yesterday morning but the sun came out in the afternoon. ARKADIAN ALFREDO FERRARI (DINO) got 1st in Puppy class and Best Puppy in Breed. The video shows him in Best Puppy In Show with photos in the comments. He also came 3rd in the Dorothy Dearn Puppy Stakes, winning £6. LYCKALOTTE ENZO FERRARI AT ARKADIAN (ENZO) won 1st in Open and 3rd in the Dorothy Dearn Open Stakes, again winning £6. LYCKALOTTE HOLLY at ARKADIAN (HOLLY) won 2nd in Special Yearling and wasn’t entered in any Stakes classes.

ARKADIAN ALFREDO FERRARI (AKA Dino) in Puppy Dog yesterday at #Crufts. He got 1st Puppy Dog and went on to get BEST PUPPY IN BREED just like his Daddy (Enzo) before him.

Bonnie and Dino playing hide and seek with their Mom Amy last night. If you have the sound up you can tell at the end that they know their names already 🥰

Lots of fun playing out in the garden today.

9 weeks old tomorrow and they love playing with their Mommy Amy. They also like playtime with Daddy Enzo and Auntie Holly. Bella, Cara and Max, the veterans, prefer to watch in amusement. ❤️💙

Time for play… The puppies are nearly 7 weeks old and have only three settings; eat, play & sleep. 🥰

Three weeks old today; how time flies. The puppies have been spending a little time downstairs over the last couple of days. There is more room for them to explore while Bella, Cara and Max can now see what all the fuss is about. If all continues to go well and Amy is happy we can move the whelping box downstairs permanently. It’ll be a while before Enzo gets to meet his babies as he is on tour with Holly but I’m sure he’ll love playing with them when they are old enough.

Entering the Best in Show ring yesterday at Spire Toy Dog. The Bichon was short listed but the Cavalier took Best in Show.
