Northwich Hedgehog Rescue is open 7 days a week between 9.00am and 7.00pm. Admissions after these hours will be will be by agreement of the rescue. This ensures that we can give the dedicated care to the hedgehogs currently receiving treatment at the rescue and especially during busy times and we are operating at full capacity. Wherever possible you will be asked to drop off the hedgehog and also

collect when treatment is finished. If you are unable to drop off due to the time in the day then we will give instructions on how to keep the hedgehog safe until it can be admitted. All hedgehogs that require veterinary treatment will be seen by our vet practice which is The Ark Veterinary Practice in Mobberly but you can also drop hedgehogs off at The Willows Vet in Hartford, The Willows Vet in Winsford and The Ark Vet in Kingsmead. At the moment the rehab unit in Winsford is closed until further notice. We have seven foster carers in Holmes Chapel, Barnton, Weaverham, Tarporley and Winsford and they will primarily take hedgehogs that have been handed in and have no home to go back to and can release through their own gardens or they will take hedgehogs local to their area where they can be collected from. Our foster carers fatten up hedgehogs to release weight and the hedgehogs will be fully treated and free of parasites when they are transferred. We also have two specialist release sites in Knutsford where support feeding is on going and hedgehogs are already visiting their gardens. Please note we cannot use a garden as a release site if no hedgehogs are visiting as we will not be sure there are any in the local vicinity. The end goal of the rescue is to release rehabilitated hedgehogs to the area they came from or relocate to areas where hedgehogs are visiting so they can help to boost the dwindling population by breeding.
