Meet Samson – the gentle panther 🐾

Samson is a big black cat with the look of a panther — strong, sleek… and a total softie at heart. But when his owner, Felicity, noticed he was losing weight and overgrooming, she knew something wasn’t right.

The only problem? Samson hates baskets and vet visits. So, as a mobile vet, we brought the vet to him, and low-stress, in-home care made all the difference.💛

Top tips for a successful home vet visit! 🏡🐾

Tip 2. Have treats to hand!

We will bring some with us, but if your pet has dietary restrictions, then please make us aware and have an alternative ready. We have found that only a few cats (and dogs) don’t like Dreamies.

Lickimats are also a useful distraction.

Something tasty that your pet has not had before is especially effective.

Paws Indoors offers professional veterinary care in your home.

✅ Convenient and compassionate.
✅ Continuity of care and extended appointments

Pet first aid tips – toxicity! 🏡🐾
If your pet has eaten something it shouldn’t, the following steps will help your pet and your vet.

✅ Salvage any wrappers or packaging so that you can be precise about contents/ ingredients and amounts that may have been eaten.
✅ Call your vet as soon as you are aware that your pet has eaten something potentially dangerous.
✅Prompt treatment can be the difference between life and death so don’t delay.
❌ Do not give salt to make your pet sick. This is rarely effective and can be very dangerous.

Of course, prevention is better than cure. Keep toxic substances out of reach. Chocolate, hot cross buns, fruit cake, human medications, rat poisons and chewing gum are the commonest substances that we are called on to deal with.

Put your vets phone number in your contacts now, so that you always have it when you need it.

Do you know who runs your vet clinic?🤔

Paws Indoors is an Independent practice, founded and staffed by local people. Being independent means that it is the practice owner, along with the rest of the team who decide how the practice is run.

Our goal at Paws Indoors is simply to offer you the best treatment choices for you and your pet.
Because every pet and every situation is different.🐶🦊🐈‍⬛

We acknowledge that providing good quality vet care can be costly and also that we are a business which means we have to generate income - to run the business, to pay and train staff and to invest in new equipment.

However, our primary motivation, the thing that gets every one of our team putting their all into the job each day, is the desire to help owners and the pets that they love and depend on, to have as healthy and fulfilling lives as possible.

We have to charge for vet care, to pay wages, bills and taxes, just like every other business.
But we do this job because we love it, and all the love we put in is free.🥰🐾

✅Less stress for your nervous pets means less worry for you.
✅ No need to travel – we come to you, lightening your load and ensuring a hassle-free experience for you and your pet. It's all about making your life easier.
✅ Professional, compassionate care at your doorstep

Lovely Lottie's pups are out enjoying the sunshine and the feel of the grass under their paws.😍🐾

Socialisation, at this age and in the next few months, is one of the most important stages of development.

Pups raised in a home environment are much better equipped to be happy, friendly dogs in the future.

Some of Lottie's pups are still looking for their forever homes. If you are interested, please contact the surgery and we can pass your details on to Lottie's human.

It’s good to keep your pet’s chip details up to date, but make sure you are not being taken advantage of by a scammer.
If you have any doubts please call us! We’re always here to help.

⚠ Beware of microchip scams ⚠

Microchipping your pet is an essential step in keeping them safe, but did you know that not all microchip registration services are legitimate?

We recently had a case where a client rehomed a pet and paid to transfer the microchip details to their name through a website called 'Petchip Network'. A year later, they discovered that the transfer had never actually taken place, and the previous owner was still registered on the microchip. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.

Here are a couple of articles that highlight the growing concern:
🔗 https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/pet-owners-risk-500-fine-for-using-unaccredited-microchip-company-petchip-acr4g4g1KNd8

We’ve also received reports that 'Petchip Network' have been emailing pet owners, claiming their pets' microchip has expired and asking for payment to update it.

To ensure your pet’s safety, always make sure microchip registrations and transfers are handled through DEFRA-approved databases. Trusted databases include Animal Tracker, Petlog, Identibase, and SmartTrace. If you’re ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for guidance.

You can also check if your pet’s microchip is correctly registered by entering the microchip number at www.check-a-chip.co.uk. Remember, a microchip is only useful if it holds the correct owner information!

Stay vigilant and keep you and your pet safe! 🐾

Pet first aid tips – torn claw🏡🐾

This can happen when out on a walk if your pup is running around, or around the house or garden. It is more likely to happen if your dog’s claws are quite long, but can happen to any dog, even with short claws.

✅If there is a lot of blood, cover with a clean dressing and seek veterinary attention immediately. Do not delay and do not leave the bandage on for more than two hours.
✅ If there is no blood but the area is sore, your dog is holding the paw up or licking. Wash with salty water or leucillin spray. Cover with a sock or dog boot. Seek veterinary attention within 24hours.
✅ If there is no blood and your pup is not licking or holding the paw up, just keep clean with salty water or leucillin spray. Contact your vet if further symptoms develop.

There is no need to stop walking , as long as your dog is not showing signs of pain. Clean the area after each walk.
