Massive well done to today's beginners group for braving the snow!
Today we looked at body language, how to approach and appropriately meet other dogs, training to help with over excitement or nervous greeters, and an off lead because we can!!!

Welcome to the team Honey!

Honey is a staffy X and has recently found her forever home.
Shes easily excited and LOVES meeting new people, but has a tendency to jump up!
With grandchildren coming round to the home, it's important we channel her energy into other more appropriate behaviours and training.
After session 1, mum and dad saw a noticeable change and were really happy with the progress made. Can't wait to see you all for session 2 soon!

Yes Naby!!!!!!!

Naby has been renowned for chasing joggers, feeling very excited when meeting other dogs, such as being unable to detach, barking, lunging with excitement!

How the times have changed!
I was super impressed on the progress from last session, to this session. It shows how hard Naby's family have worked and how much their consistency and patience has paid off!

Welcome Rusty!
Rusty is a 6 month old Labrador who's giving her mum and dad a bad time with walking! She's also getting to her adolescent phase of switching her ears off, especially when it comes to recall away from other dogs.

Recall and Lead walking have to be mutually beneficial for both puppy and owner to be happy with the situation. So we start with training things we want to SEE, and then work on what the dog wants to DO.

Once we have aligned this, and formed an open communication loop from owner to dog, we are seeing loose lead walking and recall!

Cannot wait to see your progress!

I had the pleasure of meeting Red the Setter, and Lola the spaniel!

Red is still only young, but has pushed boundaries with mum, and thinks she can jump on tables and pulls mum so hard it's become a real chore to go out, even to put leads on is a VERY exciting time for both pooches.

We've hit the reset button on these monkeys, and started to train behaviours we would rather see, such as going to a bed when people are eating, and only accepting relaxed behaviour by the front door.

By the end of session 1, both dogs were able to walk to the door, allow mum to take leads off the wall and they are calmly waiting to be put on lead! Can't wait to see how you have been getting on!

Welcome to the team Riley and Lilly!

These beardies are ruling the roost, literally barking orders at mum to gain access to rewards such as toys!

With such high arousal powered in specific areas, it's about generating a calmer feel in those areas of life.
The type of change depends on what they value, in Riley and Lillys case, BALLS ARE LIFE!

After our first session, we had a lovely chat about managing expectations around extremely valuable object and are starting to work on self control exercises to help give these pair a purpose, and a good brain workout!

Meet Reggie!
Reg is a Romanian Rescue, who's found his forever home, but is struggling with his human teenage brother being in the home.

Initially, it took time for him to accept me (a stranger) into his home, but we soon worked on focus and connection, both in and outside. I talked about body language, and the ability to be able to read Reggie to the fullest extent, and in turn how I would then act or respond.

It's important that as owners, we are consistent and calm with our dogs, and read their body language as much as we can to be able to understand how they feel.

On Reggies 3rd session, we introduced his human brother back into the home, with Reggie feeling in control and able to move away if he needed space, but also without forcing him to be involved.
His human brother was able to come down stairs (trigger 1) walk around any part of the home (trigger 2) and sit in the living room without being growled or barked at (trigger 3).

So so proud of the progress made 👏🙌

Update on Noodle and Reuben...

They are now searching large areas of farm ground (sheds, open grassy areas, and work areas), for a scent which has faded out! Search and retrieving scents which are unknown to them, and able to find scents which have been buried under objects or sheets outside too! This is a skill that has been worked on over the last 6 weeks, and they have absolutely smashed everything I've thrown their way! 👏🐾🥳

They have also started up agility 1:1s too, ready to work the mind in a different aspect!

These two are an absolute pleasure to work with ❤️

Welcome to the team Indie and Finn!

These two are 5 months old and are wanting to learn all the basics! Black lab Indie is focusing on mum brilliantly and is following through with cues taught in the session, while Finn is learning to channel his energy into more productive things other than his sister!

At such a young age, all puppies are like sponges! They absorb information they are given very quickly (and that's good and the bad habits!) So the sooner we put the basics in, the better!

Really looking forward to seeing you both again!

Here's Naby!

Out on a walk, paying attention to his mum! Naby is working on his reactivity or over excitement towards both dogs and people (joggers are the best!).

After 3 sessions, mum and dad are feeling much more in control and happy about taking him out!

Reactivity takes time to modify the main emotional response behind WHY they behave in a certain way. Naby is on course and working hard to change over excitement into relaxed 😊🐾

Jack the Cavalier has been working with us for his over excited behaviour, spinning frantically and screaming at meal times, walk times, in fact... any time the owners moved around the home!

After 4 sessions, Jack can now have visitors with no vocalisations, can go for a walk with no spinning or tripping up the owners and is much more settled, especially when out walking!

These Girls 🥰

Sprite and Whisper have been working with me since they were rescued 3 months ago and WOW what a difference in their demeanor!

Personalities are shining through now, listening and focusing really well, happy to be left whilst mum and dad go to work, toiletting outside, and are keeping up with long countryside walks and swimming now their stamina has gradually been built.
