Please keep your dogs indoors, safe and secure to help them through the fireworks 💥 season. Make them a safe place and put on the radio or TV to distract them from the noise of the fireworks. Happy Halloween 🎃

The wonderful Ottie has finished her puppy classes this evening. A great wee character, very food motivated which means she is very trainable. She’s the first puppy to wear the new graduation gear, she tried to eat the hat so we had to confiscate that 😂

Ottie is super smart and learns very fast. She’s very motivated by food which makes training her very easy. One more class to go Ottie.

Bailey progressed very quickly through puppy classes and is now finished up. Such a delightful pup and very willing to learn. He’s walking nicely on the lead and very focused on the owner in his last class.

Fantastic day of learning with dog trainer Lee on how to train dogs to walk nicely on a loose lead without all the pulling and hard work. Looking forward to delivering these techniques to my clients in the near future! 🐕

A few pics from tonight’s training class. All the pups did so well. Ottie was the new kid on the block tonight, Alfie settled very well despite his excitability and Marley was on the ball despite having a wee holiday mid training. So proud of them all. Even Da**ie learned some new tricks thanks to Conan.

Marley done so well at her puppy class tonight. She’s nailed her commands so far! A very intelligent little lady 🤩. Her owner learned about grooming her, teeth cleaning and ear cleaning. All little bits of helpful information to use for Marley’s general care and well being!

CHOOSING A DOG BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY LOOK
We wouldn’t choose a partner or make a commitment to sharing our lives with someone based purely on the way they look.

We would hopefully first get to know them, their personality and who they really are before making that sort of commitment.

Yet people continue to choose dogs just because they may have pretty eyes, are really cute or just really like the look of them without any understanding or desire to learn about what that particular breed was selectively bred to do and what behaviour they might expect.

The way a dog behaves is not always specific to the breed. Dogs are individuals, with their own unique personality and their behaviour is shaped not only by genetics but by their specific life and learning experiences and environment, but problems can happen when the traits of that breed and their specific needs are not taken into account.

Some breeds may just not be compatible with a particular family’s needs, lifestyle or expectations.

Is it fair for us to suppress, try to train out or even punish breed specific tendencies when we keep a dog in a captive environment that is not suitable for them.

Research the breed and learn all you can about their potential traits before making a choice.

Understand the breed and make sure that you are able to provide appropriate outlets for those needs.
