Saw the Gerbs today for the first time in ages! They are definitely making use of the space/bedding!
Get a load of those tunnels 😍
Guess who's officially out of hibernation!!
Well, the good news is that Rocky has gone from 2.6kg to 2kg!
The bad news is that his flat nose is causing some issues. Much like pugs, shih tsus etc, Rocky is brachycephalic (flat faced). The vet took a look at his nose and said he thinks the problem is that the mucus is getting trapped in-between the folds in his nose, causing the dry, crusty, scabby and red areas we're seeing.
It seems like the best solution will probably be to clean his nose once or twice a day, plus a course of antibiotics. We've also been recommended a medication called Bisolvon which might be the next port of call!
We are so proud of how far these boys have come since their rescue in late January.
Many of you will know they were severely overweight with no ability to groom themselves. They had matted fur down to the skin with weepy eyes and scabby noses. They were extremely dirty and smelled absolutely terrible.
They're both now well on the road to recovery, and with a proper diet have lost a tremendous amount of weight and are both back to grooming properly!
Well done Rocky & Carlos 🐰
The conures are settling in well in their foster home!
It's official: we no longer have tenants!
It's been a really hard and kind of scary decision, particularly from a financial standpoint to make to take over the whole building, but it's hugely needed with the number of surrenders we're currently receiving, and particularly for the rabbits.
Overall, I think this is really going to be for the best, and as you can see, Cappuccino agrees!
Lovely to see how active these two are becoming now they've lost some weight! 🐇
Lovely Pesto and Percy have found a new home! Very excited to see them off on their new adventure
Check out our new window display!
Today Sophie and I picked up two of the worst neglect cases I've ever seen in my 3 years running the rescue.
These two rabbits came from a home that clearly loved them an awful lot, but as is so often the case, the care has fallen far short of where it needs to be.
These boys are both bred flat faced, which causes many of the same issues as it does in cats and dogs. They're showing signs of respiratory distress and eye issues. One rabbit was damp and had huge, almost fist size mats of hair around his genitals as you can see here.
Both have very sore hocks with patches of missing fur and almost no muscle tone in their feet, and they smell absolutely disgusting.
I'm so glad we went to pick these boys up today so we can give them their well deserved second chance at life.
