A guaranteed way for Bracken to eat her veg... Use her toppl ( my best EVER crufts buy). She needs to lose a few 100g to get summer body ready
Brandies acing her recall session
Fun with the pups today.
Building a strong recall whilst having fun
Learning retrieve is a great way to exercise both legs and mind.
Maddox has aced this so far
4 weeks, 3 lessons, 1 very dedicated owner.
Maisie (and her owner) absolutely rocked their walking this morning.
A nice 'day off' today meant a trip to Filey with both 2 and 4 legged friends.
We go on holiday to the beach in a few months and so I want to top up my value compared to the environment which is why we used a long line today.
Even with all the wind she rocked her recall
Can you see and hear the difference?
Are you a babble mouth when out and about meaning you're cues get lost?
You can see how Bracken knows and enjoys our 'hup hup' cue but it gets lost amongst all the babble and she can't give an easy behaviour
I've spoke to a few people this week about how to use their newly found skills to help 'get out of dodge' when they have undesired 'events' moving towards them.
This is one of mine and Bracken's favourite couple of confidence games, that I also put into our outings randomly - that way they don't get paired with bad events, and it makes sure it really is a learned behaviour and a positive one.
I asked for this repertoire 6 minutes after a very unpretty melt down at a tractor - because it's practiced Bracken is now very quick to recover from bad experiences and change her mindset to a positive one
Betty progress....
We've 'changed the picture' for her walks - how? Here's a little list
1 - swapped from a collar to a harness - still a.little work here
2 - allow her time to settle into the environment
3 - going to new places with no prior negative associations
4 - keeping the sessions short
For the past 2 weeks I've had NO refusals from her - she had become very stubborn and once backed right out of her collar - hence changing to a harness.
She's very pressure sensitive and so if I tried to hurry her the more she 'dug her paws in'
I keep the sessions short (50 mins ish) so there are less chances of bad associations/interactions and also if she's not feeling a walk then we have the option of different training.
The next thing I need to find is a food she will accept from me as so far we've refused everything - even cooked chicken
A nice jaunt around the local area today
2 things we've been working on recently - proximity when off lead, and being able to ignore passers by that are dog free.
Betty update - look how eager she is to come out for a walk with me... when I first started going I could spent the first 5-10 minutes trying to coax her down from upstairs.
Consistency and letting her confidence grow had been the key to her success
