⚠️🎇 Firework advice 🎇⚠️
With fireworks night fast approaching, now is the time to take precautions to ensure that your horse remains as stress-free and calm as possible. Here's our advice ⬇️
🔸 Speak to your neighbours to see if they are planning any celebrations. You will be able to discuss your concerns and find out what time their bonfires will be lit and if any fireworks will be set off.
🔸 Keep to your horse's normal routine and environment as much as possible. If stabled, try to keep them in their usual stable. If turned out, try to use their normal field as long as it is not too close to where fireworks will be released.
🔸 Check your horse's environment for any objects that they could potentially injure themselves on, and remove them. Double-check that fencing/stable doors are secure.
🔸 If possible, stay with your horse during firework displays (keeping yourself out of harm's way.) If you can't stay with them, check on them frequently during the celebrations.
🔸 Leaving the radio and lights on for stabled horses can also help (they should be familiar with this before the celebrations begin).
🔸 If someone else will be caring for your horse, make sure that they have clear instructions and provide them with contact details for both you and your vet.
🔸 If your horse struggles to cope with fireworks, you may want to move them to a different location for the evening or discuss sedation with your vet.
🔸 It goes without saying, but horses should not be ridden during these times. Your safety should always come first, so make sure that you keep out of harm's way and do not put yourself in a dangerous situation with a distressed horse.
