Staff Pet of the Month 🐈

Cherry is owned by Senior Vet Naomi. Naomi and her family adopted Cherry from Woodside Animal Welfare Trust and she is a 6 month old super cute kitten who loves exploring outdoors and playing fetch! Naomi works at both our Manadon and Ivybridge sites. She’s popular with both staff and clients and Woodlands are very lucky to have such a talented vet leading the team 🐈

Hip dysplasia is a developmental condition in dogs. This is usually due to genetic predisposition and the dysplasia develops or worsens as the dog grows.

Hip dysplasia can occur in any breed of dog. It is typically associated with large breeds such as Labradors, German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Saint Bernards, but is increasingly being diagnosed in smaller breeds such as French Bulldogs.

Just like us if we injure ourselves during exercise or through wear and tear as we age, our pets can also end up with discomfort or pain in their limbs, causing lameness. This may be a breed disposition like hip dysplasia in dogs, your cat jumping from a fence at an odd angle and injuring their leg or perhaps an ageing pet showing the first signs of
osteoarthritis.
If you think your pet is struggling with movement or doesn’t seem themselves, please give us a call today to book an appointment on 01752 700600 or 01752 690999.

Autumn Pet Toxins: Acorns
Acorns are also a choking hazard and can cause intestinal damage if ingested whole. Signs of acorn poisoning to look for include vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and dehydration. In rare cases, untreated incidents of acorn poisoning have led to kidney and liver failure, so always speak to your vet as soon as possible if you suspect your pet has ingested acorns.

Autumn Pet Toxins: Horse Chestnuts (conkers)
The toxic ingredient in conkers is also found in the leaves and bark of the tree, so keep an eye out to make sure your pet doesn't eat these either. Conkers are also a choking hazard, and can potentially cause bowel obstructions if swallowed whole, which may require emergency surgery. Signs to look for in your pet include vomiting and diarrhoea, excessive drooling, excessive thirst or reduced appetite. In severe cases, ingestion can cause muscle tremors or seizures.

Woodlands Veterinary Group recently held a car boot sale to help raise awareness of the work we do with Woodside Animal Welfare Trust. All monies raised from the pitches and the entrance fees collected were donated to Woodside. The day was a huge success, the rain held off and in total we raised £300! Pictured below is one of our PCA’s Gracie and her little brother (who likes to think he is part of the team) handing over the money to Woodside 🐶 🐈‍⬛
