Veterans with Dogs.
Are you a dog lover? Would you like to help veterans with PTSD or other mental health issues? Veterans with Dogs is a registered charity which trains dogs to carry out a range of tasks to help the veterans they eventually live with e.g. reminding them to take their medication, leading them to a safe place, grounding a person during panic attacks and getting someone up and out of bed. They also help veterans with PTSD to gain confidence and improve their self-esteem. The feedback from the veterans that live with these assistance dogs is fantastic.
Just like the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind, Veterans with Dogs looks for dog lovers who are willing to offer an 8-week-old puppy a home and look after them until they are around 18-months-old. During this time, puppies receive regular training and are then tested to see if they are suitable to spend the rest of their life as an assistance dog for a veteran.
If you feel that this is something you would like to do or would like more information about this, please contact 01626 798030 or send an email to [email protected] and / or go to: www.veteranswithdogs.org.uk.
The charity is also more than happy to talk to veterans currently suffering from PTSD or other mental health issues who might be interested in becoming part of this scheme.
