Dartmoor Zoological Society We're just 15 minutes from Plymouth City Centre. A unique zoo set in 33 acres of beautiful parkland just 20 mins from Plymouth.

We have a fantastic collection which includes an impressive selection of big cats, wolves, zebra, meerkats, tapir and much much more. Our restaurant serves hot and cold, drinks and meals and we can cater for all kinds of events, including weddings. The Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Mee wrote a book about buying the zoo called, We Bought a Zoo. This later became the subject of a major Hollywood

movie of the same name starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johannson.

10 years on the zoo has been through a roller coaster journey but the conversion to charity in 2014 has strengthened it's future and opened up new and exciting opportunities.

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of our beautiful Cheetah, Baro.

Welfare is the top priority when working with these incredible animals and once the vets had exhausted all options available, this was the hardest but kindest decision to make. Baro was unfortunately diagnosed with untreatable chronic kidney failure.

Baro was a soft and gentle soul, enjoying life from the top of his mound with the best vantage point in the zoo, but he had a mischievous side tooโ€ฆ
He'd stalk and hide from the keepers, but he hadn't quite got the coverage down and would often hide behind a single blade of grass!

Baro enjoyed soaking up what little sun we got, but as soon as the sun disappeared behind the clouds, or there was a hint of rain, he was straight back into the comfort of his heated house. If you called his name during our animal talks, he'd always pop his head out to say hello though!

A food orientated boy, if it was wrapped in packaging, Baro was all over it - unpacking of any kind was his favourite form of enrichment.
We will miss Baro following the team up the hill on the off chance he might get some food or waiting with a purr of anticipation for the keepers each morning at breakfast.

Baro was extremely adored by keepers, staff, and guests alike and he will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, it is time to be reunited with your brother now โค

๐Ÿพ A New Beginning for Churchill the Serval ๐Ÿพ You may have heard about our latest arrivalโ€”Churchill, the serval cat. Rescued from The Cat Survival Trust following a conviction for animal mistreatment, Churchill has now found a safe and caring home here at Dartmoor Zoo. ๐Ÿ’š A huge thank you to Hertfordshire Zoo and The Big Cat Sanctuary for their quick action and hard work while helping to rehome 28 rare and endangered cats. Together, we're giving these incredible animals the future they deserve. โœจ Churchill is currently in an off-show enclosure during his 30 day quarantine, giving him time to adjust to his new environment and for our keeper team to monitor his behaviour and conduct welfare checks.
