Another early start for Tuesday's teams as we trailed under the rising sun! Ok so it was mostly cloud but at least it was dry this time. The teams worked well to find their trail layer using a camping chair as a scent article.

Fabulous morning trailing in the clouds!

We discussed the intricacies of our dogs wider mindset and confidence and how this impacts trailing, and how we may need to adapt how we work as handlers to best accommodate our dogs' unique personalities when trailing.

Weather conditions were great for trailing, and I was impressed with how well the dogs coped with and recovered from some large distractions on trail.

A component exercise, trailing our trail layers back to their own vehicles this morning!

This can be a challenging concept for dogs as it combines unfamiliar patterns (going back on themselves) and a really tricky scent pool puzzle.

The dogs did really well at this today!

A super evening working some decoy exercises - there were plenty of natural decoys around in Cardiff, with 'The Script' and 'The Taylor Swift Experience' concerts both happening in town this evening!

Ensuring the dogs are trailing for the person we have asked them to search for, and not just any person in the location is really important for successful Mantrailing.

The dogs all did very well this evening and showed excellent confidence and resilience.

Well done Team Nala, Team Gracie, Team Scooby, Team Daisy, Team Rowan, Team Loki!

What does a Malinois, a Great Dane, a Weimaraner, a Swedish Valhund and a Bulldog have in common?

They all absolutely ACED their trailing this evening!

Mixed surface type trailing, changing from parkland to urban space, with lots of distractions, including children playing in a park, dogs with frizbees and people camping.

Super proud of all of these teams today - I set them challenges appropriate for their level and experience and to push them a little bit and they all exceeded expectations - very happy instructor tonight!

No paths for this morning's teams as they picked their way through the trees to find their trail layer hidden in the woods. It's easy to get turned around and lose your sense of direction so handlers have to trust their dogs and the dogs have to trust thier noses.
