JUST A DOG

From time to time, people tell me, “ok calm down, it’s just a dog” or “that’s a lot of money to spend on a dog”.

They don’t understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved to give “just a dog” a great life

Some of my proudest moments involve “just a dog”.

I’ve endured many dark and difficult hours in my battle with chronic p.t.s.d and my only company was “just a dog” but I never once felt alone.

Some of my saddest moments have happened because of “just a dog” and in those days of darkness, a gentle stroke of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day and to fight for them even though I knew I was losing their battle.

If you too, think it’s “just a dog” then you probably understand phrases like “just a friend” “just another day” or “just a promise”.

“Just a dog” brings pure love into my life and is the true meaning of friendship, trust and pure joy.

“Just a dog” brings out the compassion, hope and patience that makes me the person I’m proud to be.

Because of “just a dog” I get up early, take long walks in nature or on the beach and finally believe in my future after so much past hurt.

So for me and others like me it’s not “just a dog” but a symbol of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of living in this moment.

“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from my past pain, my shattered brain and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just another person”

So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog” just smile, because they will never understand what it really means.

My baby girl Daisy wasn’t “just a dog” she was “my dog” and a day hasn’t gone by in the two months since I lost her that I haven’t shed a million tears at having her so cruelly taken from me by cancer so young after her years of cruel abuse in a puppy farm.

Dedicated to Daisy Doodle my beacon of light 💡still pushing me daily in spirit towards my goal of helping other ex breeders and giving them a public voice against puppy farming

My girl, my world I miss you so much xx
