🐾 What Is Cherry Eye? 🐾
Have you noticed a red or pink bulge in the corner of your dog’s eye? It might be something called cherry eye—a common condition, especially in younger dogs and certain breeds like Bulldogs, Beagles, and Cocker Spaniels.
💡 What is Cherry Eye?
Dogs have a third eyelid, and within it is a gland that produces tears. Sometimes, this gland can slip out of place and become visible—appearing as a swollen, reddish mass in the inner corner of the eye. That’s what we call cherry eye.
❗️Is It Serious?
While not life-threatening, cherry eye can cause discomfort, dryness, and lead to further eye issues if left untreated. It won’t go away on its own.
👁️ Early diagnosis and treatment are key to preventing complications like chronic dry eye or infections.
📞 If you notice any signs of cherry eye in your pet, give us a call. The sooner it’s addressed, the better the outcome for your furry friend!
