Remember sweet girl Iona from who we told you about a few weeks ago?

Well, she returned last week to see Edric once again, this time for her stem cell injections, using her own stem cells that were derived from an adipose tissue sample.

We snapped some shots of her visit this time around to show you the steps in her process :

📸 Edric opening the all important package and checking all details were correct
📸 A very comfortable and sleepy Iona, nearly ready for her short anaesthetic
📸 Stem Cell injection preparation; we also used PRP on this occasion
📸 Exam of Iona’s tissue harvest wound- which was looking excellent!
📸 Iona proudly wearing her rosette 🏵️ to show she was a star for her treatment 🌟

Edric will now continue to monitor Iona’s progress with her family and her vet team, making sure that her lifestyle and treatment plan is tailored to her abilities, something so important for each individual 🦮🐕‍🦺

With special thanks to the team whom we couldn’t do this treatment without 💙

Surgeon Nicci and RVN Lauren had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful new Cherry Orchard Vets yesterday to help gorgeous girl Sascha 🌳🌸🏡🐕

Sascha had ruptured her right cruciate ligament causing persistent lameness. Nicci addressed this with a cranial closing wedge ostectomy (CCWO) ➡️ swipe to see the all important post-operative X-rays.

Sascha recovered smoothly from her procedure with multi modal a**lgesia on board. She will now be rested carefully for 6 weeks before her X-rays will be repeated by the team at Cherry Orchard for Nicci’s review to confirm good bone healing and implant positioning.

Thank you to Sarah and the team for having us to visit this week, we’ve loved working with you all 💙

‼️Warning of surgery images‼️

Last week, soft tissue surgeon Sam visited Vets4Pets Maidenhead to see lovely cockapoo, Zelda, for mast cell tumour (MCT) removal from the left side of her tail base. Initially noted by Zelda’s groomer, two masses were present and had been sampled by the team at Maidenhead, confirming the MCT diagnosis.

Staging with abdominal ultrasound had revealed that the sub-lumbar lymph nodes, liver and spleen were all of normal size and appearance and fine needle aspirates from the liver and spleen were unremarkable.

On assessment with the client’s present, Sam discussed resection of the masses with margins of normal tissue, to include reconstruction with a lateral caudal axial pattern flap- requiring amputation of the tail because, Zelda had previously had bilateral mammary strips, preventing the use of a caudal epigastric flap.

Surgery was smooth and Zelda recovered well, in the capable hands of super RVN Sam 💙 We now await Zelda’s histology results for final confirmation of diagnosis. For now, Zelda will be taking it easy, ensuring her wound is kept clean and dry. Get well soon lovely girl 🐾🐶

A moment for our regenerative medicine options 🐾

This week we’ve seen a lovely 9 year old Labrador who has suffered with bilateral chronic thoracic limb lameness attributable to bilateral elbow disease, confirmed by CT revealing advanced osteoarthritis 🦴

One of the many management options her family were given was PRP injections. Platelet-rich-plasma is a blood- derived product which holds a number of beneficial properties including anti-inflammatory agents.

Using a dedicated blood collection device and centrifuge; we were able to obtain a sample from our patient and prepare the PRP in practice ready for injection. Intra-articular injections are performed in a sterile manner; in this instance in theatre under general anaesthetic as our patient was also having an adipose tissue sample collected for culture in to stem cells; another regenerative medicine technique that we will be introducing for this lovely girl in a few weeks time - keep your eye out for our future post on all things stem cells 💉

PAWSOME PETS - APRIL 🌟

Our first Pawsome Pet for April is sweet little Monty. Monty came into us towards the end of March as he was very lame on his right hind leg. Georgia started him on pain relief, and it was decided we would take a series of x-rays to investigate further.

Once x-rays were taken, our vets were suspicious that Monty had suffered a cruciate ligament rupture. Monty’s x-rays were sent to orthopaedic surgeons, Provetsurg, and the diagnosis was confirmed.

After much thought and planning, the next steps for Monty would be a surgery to repair the rupture. The team at Provet had recommended Monty undergo a Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy with a Lateral Suture. A TPLO involves changing the angle of the top of the shin bone by cutting the bone, rotating it, and stabilising it in a new position with a plate and screws. This would ensure Monty’s knee feels stable when weight bearing.

Provet surgeon Edric came to the practice to perform the surgery, Monty was a superstar and all the nurses made sure to make a fuss of him! Monty still had a long road ahead of him, with strict rest and rehabilitation needed to ensure he made a full recovery.

Throughout the end of April, Monty was visiting us for frequent post op checks. During these appointments laser therapy was used on Monty’s surgical site. Laser therapy manages inflammation and pain while accelerating tissue regeneration. Through a combination of different wavelengths, frequency, and power of laser light, K-Laser increases circulation, drawing oxygen, water, and nutrients to the damaged area.

Finally, 6 weeks had passed and Monty was now headed in for post-operative x-rays to check the progress of his leg. Again, these x-rays were sent to Provet so they could give their opinion on Monty’s progress. It was good news! Monty’s x-rays looked super and he could start a gradual return to exercise and normal life.

Monty was such a good boy throughout his treatment with us, and his owners were so dedicated with making sure he made a swift and full recovery. A special thanks also goes out to the team at Provet, for their continued support and assistance through Monty’s treatment.

Well done Monty!

Our laparoscopy service 📹🐶

Looked after by our two brilliant soft tissue surgeons, Sam Marshall and Ana Murta, our laparoscopy service brings to you a number of different benefits. 🐶 Our nurse admin team offer you a date/s with one of our surgeons

🐶 By having this date in advance, you can let your team members know that should they receive a laparoscopy enquiry, they can offer the next available date with PVS
🐶 It also means you can promote this service via your website or socials, knowing that you’ve got a date around the corner to offer interested clients
🐶 All the while knowing that PVS are only an email away if you get any questions crop up
🐶 Not only do these clinic days apply for spays, but you can also book laparoscopic cryptorchid castrations or laparoscopic assisted gastropexys or biopsies.

Boo 💙

**pre- warning of surgery images**

A couple of weeks back, soft tissue surgeon Sam and RVN Lauren headed to in Notting Hill to help the gorgeous Boo, an incredible Labrador who was suffering with a recurrent problem when passing stools. Boo had been found to have an uncomfortable mass associated with his a**l gland so it was decided that the best course of action was removal, by a**l sacculectomy.

Boo’s practice investigated further ahead of surgery, to ensure no other suspicious lesions were present anywhere in the body. It was at this time that a mass on his spleen was also identified, leading Sam and the team to discuss removal of this too while he would be under anaesthetic for the sacculectomy.

Precautions were taken on Boo’s surgery day to include pre op fluid therapy and low dose medications, not forgetting an efficient anaesthetic and the all important comforts of a nice comfortable bed and lots of fuss 💙

Surgery was successful and Boo recovered really nicely from his sacculectomy and splenectomy. Histopathology samples were sent to the lab which Sam and the team later a**lysed. Boo’s team have recently reported that he is continuing to do well at home which we’re so pleased to hear - way to go Boo - you were a star ⭐️ patient! 💙

Brilliant news from St Kitts Veterinary Group who we’re exceptionally proud to support with our laparoscopy service 💙

What a beautiful girl Storm is, it’s so lovely to hear her family are pleased with her recovery post spay 🙏🏼

Say hello to Storm 🐶

This brave girl recently had a laparoscopic spay procedure at Crookham Park Vets and she bounced back immediately following surgery.

Her owners couldn't be happier with their decision to opt for this minimally invasive spay option. Laparoscopic spaying means quicker recovery, less discomfort, and a faster return to the activities our pets love.

We're thrilled to see Storm doing so well 🥰

Head over to St Kitts Veterinary Group’s page to have a read of Tim’s story! 🐈💙

When Tim was hit by a car back in February, he suffered a fractured pelvis and had to undergo a femoral head and neck excision with Provetsurg.

In the weeks and months following surgery, he has been popping in to our Crookham Park practice to see head nurse Sarah and student nurse Lauren for physio sessions. By coming in 1-2 times per week, Sarah and Lauren have been able to work with Tim to gradually build-up his hind legs and muscles again. He’s been making great progress! 🐈🐾

And as you can see, he’s definitely been making the most of the treats and attention 🥰
