🐢🦎🐍 At Shell-Tur we rescue and re-home turtles, reptiles, and other exotic animals to provide them with a loving home & sanctuary, some of them are often found released in the wild or being housed in unsuitable accommodation. We are based in Berkshire and have been running for over 7 years, We have rescued a

nd re-homed over
2 Thousand animals and operate across 3 different bases. We will rescue turtles, reptiles, other exotics, fish, and small mammals. We have a passion for conservation, protection of endangered species, and providing education surrounding animal welfare and correct husbandry. We also provide advice and guidance worldwide to both private owners and pet stores. We aim to expand our humble rescue and sanctuary to provide space for many more rescues to come, provide solace and respite for those with life-limiting and terminal illnesses, whilst also providing therapeutic services to those living with disability or mental illness, and offer voluntary opportunity to ex-offenders. Also a we want to offer a place where these animals can be seen and too educate anyone that is interested in knowing more about Animal Behaviours and Requirements. We have also done events consisting of Handling days, Pet Talks, Schools, Birthday parties & Weddings. For any query or information you need drop us a message and our team will be more than happy to help. Our team:

So after a traumatised start Steve named Mushu has found his forever home at the beginning of the week, with amazing parents and siblings of the human and fluffy variety to love him and give him all the smooches he wants. (Under supervision of course)

Here's to a happy ending but fantastic new start for his new life with his new family.

We have a new visitor to the turtle room we just needed to share with you. This is Tez a redfooted tortoise. She is with us till will can clear up her long time pneumonia that has left her with pressure behind the eyes, possible scarred lungs and a wheeze the best we can with antibiotics and a nebuliser. She is also VERY dehydrated and is taking days to get her up to par with many repto boosts and electrolyte top ups.

She will then be off to meet her new sisters of the same species in a home that is more equipped than her last and to thrive and be loved. We also cherish the fact that we will get updates and see her when we can 🥰

This is why we do what we do. The sleepless nights, the empty pockets. We were all given a chance on this earth with one soul no more deserving than the rest. It's just sometimes we need a helping hand.

This rescue was set up to help give one of our creators a chance and a means to a life they were told was to be just discarded. In return he gives his "undeserving" life to help the many souls that come into contact with him and the world is a better place with them all in it.

At quater past 11 last night we were called out by the Thames Valley Police to help with an escaped snake and a cold beardie left in a home where the owner unexpectedly passed away.

We can safely say they are both home, warm, watered and "Steve Irwin" (named by the wonderful officers) the beardie has already eaten. Steve does have an old broken tail that was not corrected but will not affect his quality of life and he does love a cuddle.

The boa was found in a spare bedroom after escaping his small Viv and was an immediately warmed up with a hot water bottle as he was stone cold and very docile.

Steve has woken up and gone straight to water bowl this morning showing just how dehydrated he was. The snake named Gambit is still just exploring his new bigger, warmer home.

Thankyou to the wonderful officers at Thames Valley Police for entrusting us to take on and look after these babies are an unfortunate life event that left them in need.

More updates to come.

Just a little snippet and a behind the scenes of what's to come with more proffesional polished photos. But some of pur babies became superstar models for the day yesterday.

Proud is to too small of a word to describe how they made us feel. They loved the attention and the treats that came with it.

The animals chosen are ones that are perfectly OK and enjoy being handled. If anything they were thoroughly enjoying have scratches and cuddles.

A few are on alert becasue of the fireworks (we have relaxing ambience playing int he turtle room to drown out the sudden bangs).

Turtles believe it or not "enjoy" music like relaxing classical scores as it's a constant "hum" they can feel through their plastron (bottom half of their shell).

But here are a few who are not letting fireworks dampen their evening sunbathe.

Neo on of our Diamondback Terrapins eating her natural food item the crab.

In the wild Diamomdbacks have a large number of crustaceans to their diet as well as some small number of plant matter and fish.

They also possess a large "crushing pallet on the roof of their mouth.

Feeding them storebought thawed fresh water crabs not only helps shave the pallet down it also encourages them to learn how to break the shell to get juicy meat on the inside x
