🐢🦎🐍 At Shell-Tur we rescue and re-home turtles, reptiles, and other exotic animals to provide them with a loving home & sanctuary, some of them are often found released in the wild or being housed in unsuitable accommodation. We are based in Berkshire and have been running for over 7 years, We have rescued a

nd re-homed over
2 Thousand animals and operate across 3 different bases. We will rescue turtles, reptiles, other exotics, fish, and small mammals. We have a passion for conservation, protection of endangered species, and providing education surrounding animal welfare and correct husbandry. We also provide advice and guidance worldwide to both private owners and pet stores. We aim to expand our humble rescue and sanctuary to provide space for many more rescues to come, provide solace and respite for those with life-limiting and terminal illnesses, whilst also providing therapeutic services to those living with disability or mental illness, and offer voluntary opportunity to ex-offenders. Also a we want to offer a place where these animals can be seen and too educate anyone that is interested in knowing more about Animal Behaviours and Requirements. We have also done events consisting of Handling days, Pet Talks, Schools, Birthday parties & Weddings. We didnt want to address this publicly it is an issue that has been felt for awhile.

Due to negligence of previous owners of some animals that have made their way to us we will now be asking for all medical notes and a recent proffesional/vetinary health check of any animal before they come through our doors.

This is going to be taken into affect because of the lies and false information given about the previous care, that it's now costing us more not just finacially but also in the shape of innocent lives and this is taking a toll on our emotional wellbeing as in our hearts we always strive to giveing them a second chance at life. We cant fufil this promise if we are not given the correct medical history and falsley told how an animal has been treated. This is also to protect the animals already residing here as they are our number 1 priority.

It has become a trend that people see an animal and take it in without knowledge of husbandry then when it becomes too much they then ditch at the earliest convenience.

The animals that are here are safe and healthy. But we cannot ignore this and other events that have happened and we just need to be stronger on our terms and conditions moving forward to keep the rescue a healthy, warm and loving space for all souls that come to us.

When shops say "Musk turtles don't need the UV light and basking area as they spend most of their time in water" yes they do spend most of their time in water BUT they should ALWAYS have access to UVA / UVB and a heat bulb. They may not bask if you're in the roo, but these little guys like to be lazy on a dock just as a Yellow Bellied Slider does.

*We realise we did say red markings on her shell, we meant on her skin* Lucky was unfortunate enough to again be a victim of illegal dumping in the UK. On discovery we quickly realised the very tell tale symptoms of Edema (water retention) and Sepisis (red blemishes on the skin and shell that do not dissappear with movement) She is on a 3 week antibiotic course (Baytril) supplied by our on call vetinarian cannot cope in our non native conditions alone. Dirty water ways, pollution and the coldness. She's "lucky" to be here today.

Bambi has now been upgraded to a bigger enclosure. One that helps show the "traffic" of the rescue and show her she's not alone ❤️ We are loving how far she has come, the wound is clean, healthy and healing. Thankyou for everyone who has supported and been invested in her story. She has now got her little turtles paws firmly into Shell-Tur Turtle Rescue's history x
