🐢🦎🐍 At Shell-Tur we rescue and re-home turtles, reptiles, and other exotic animals to provide them with a loving home & sanctuary, some of them are often found released in the wild or being housed in unsuitable accommodation. We are based in Berkshire and have been running for over 7 years, We have rescued a

nd re-homed over
2 Thousand animals and operate across 3 different bases. We will rescue turtles, reptiles, other exotics, fish, and small mammals. We have a passion for conservation, protection of endangered species, and providing education surrounding animal welfare and correct husbandry. We also provide advice and guidance worldwide to both private owners and pet stores. We aim to expand our humble rescue and sanctuary to provide space for many more rescues to come, provide solace and respite for those with life-limiting and terminal illnesses, whilst also providing therapeutic services to those living with disability or mental illness, and offer voluntary opportunity to ex-offenders. Also a we want to offer a place where these animals can be seen and too educate anyone that is interested in knowing more about Animal Behaviours and Requirements. We have also done events consisting of Handling days, Pet Talks, Schools, Birthday parties & Weddings. As we were celebrating new years, this little guy was about to be dumped by two lads into a cold, dark pond. If a man who patrols the pond didn't chase them off this baby would not of survived. It would of been preyed upon, cold and scared.

No older than a few months old and being born in captivity this baby surley would not have had the survival instincts their wild American counterparts possess.

It is illegal to dump any animal in the wild let alone one that would be classed as invasive.

It's now warm, in clean water and eating some good shrimp.

Merry Christmas from us all at Shell-tur :) we want to say thankyou for everything you guys have done through the year, you guys really are the beating heart if this rescue. Invested in their stories and seeing the updates that make you smile make this all worth while.

The Tortoise's Christmas dinner is made up of a little of fruit, spring greens, pumpkin and cut up PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS !!!!

Safe to say they are inviting this food with eager eyes and open mouths !!!!

We have a new visitor to the turtle room we just needed to share with you. This is Tez a redfooted tortoise. She is with us till will can clear up her long time pneumonia that has left her with pressure behind the eyes, possible scarred lungs and a wheeze the best we can with antibiotics and a nebuliser. She is also VERY dehydrated and is taking days to get her up to par with many repto boosts and electrolyte top ups.

She will then be off to meet her new sisters of the same species in a home that is more equipped than her last and to thrive and be loved. We also cherish the fact that we will get updates and see her when we can 🥰

This is why we do what we do. The sleepless nights, the empty pockets. We were all given a chance on this earth with one soul no more deserving than the rest. It's just sometimes we need a helping hand.

This rescue was set up to help give one of our creators a chance and a means to a life they were told was to be just discarded. In return he gives his "undeserving" life to help the many souls that come into contact with him and the world is a better place with them all in it.
