Gull Guardians Rhyl Hi, we are Gull Guardians Rhyl and we help gulls everyday in between Talacre and Abergele

Hi. I volunteers at Idlewild Animal Sanctuary and the site is at risk of closing if we can not raise the money for a new site. We really need help to fundraise and save the sanctuary. Please can you share the link with anyone you know and donate if you can. Idlewild and the animals mean a lot to me and I really want to help the sanctuary. https://gofund.me/b810ea06
Thank you x

Kath Hutchison died aged 51 on August 16.

19/08/2023

Following the recent passing of our amazing rehabber Kath Hutchison yesterday we had made arrangements with Kaths family to assist with the rehoming of over 40 gulls which were in kaths care.
Yesterday's we managed to take 22 gulls who all had the potential to fly again and rehomed them at the wonderful Idlewild Animal Sanctuary. We will be attending again on Tuesday to create a forward plan for the remainder of the gulls.

Any donations towards the cost of food and transportation would be very much appreciated.

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our wonderful rehabber Kath Hutchison❤️😓

We are in desperate need of gull fosterers until we are able to sort an onwards plan for over 40 gulls that were in her care, some of which will need a lifelong home.
If you have space in your heart in this incredible difficult time please get intouch😭🐦

As you all know, on the 5th of June 2023 Gull Guardians Rhyl had to turn to an advice only service due to a lack of volunteers and available funds.

Since then our dedicated team of volunteers have been in discussion about the best next steps. The conclusion was to set up a separate group for rehabbers under the name "Grey wings, Respite and Care for Gulls" we hope this will provide some clarity for new volunteers who wish to either assist with rescues or take on the more long term role of being a rehabber.
Gull Guardians Rhyl will be working as an advice service and hopefully be able to run a rescue service again once more volunteers come on board.

We will also be setting up a separate fundraiser for "Grey wings" which will focus on raising funds for the primary care of the gulls, for food, medication and any vet bills.
Gull Guardians Rhyl's fundraiser will now be more dedicated towards raising funds for better equipment which in turn will enable us to facilitate more rescues and to fund transport to sanctuary where our disabled gulls will live a wonderful life.

We will continue to work in partnership with GreyWings and will always have the best interest of our Gulls at heart.

Thank you all so much for your continued support

Attention‼️
From today (Monday 5th June 2023) we will be running an ADVICE ONLY service. Due to the overwhelming amount of birds in our care (who are our top priority) and the funds needed to provide for them we are having to close our doors to new intakes until further notice. We will also be unable to facilitate any rescues in this time.
We will always be on hand to give any advice and refer you to groups who may be able to help you.

We hope to be back up and running again soon with more volunteers and funds behind us.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused!

Here's an update on another resident in our care currently....

Daisy, a lovely gull whose eye has suffered some trauma but with our vets guidance and two different types of eye drops she is coming along nicely at the moment.....

Medication, food, towels, pillow cases, newspapers, bird friendly cleaning materials it all adds up so if you have a spare £1 please donate! Thank you.

We are looking for foster carers that will help care for a range of animals for short periods of time to support the sanctuary though our busiest months. This will mainly be wildlife ahead of release but may include other animals too that need one to one care.

We are already full of wildlife and cannot take any more in onsite so we need a team of people to help us.

All pens and set ups will be provided. We need people that already have some experience but training can also be provided.

Please get in touch if you have skills that could be of assistance to us and the animals that are coming in for care.

Please email [email protected]

Please incuded your name, address, skill set and experience and space available for foster animals.

Ryker arrived yesterday....

A request for help was received from the public, luckily we were in the area and that arrangements were in place for a couple of our tenants to be re-homed so the signs were looking good this time.

After locating and collecting Ryker, we popped in to see our vet, who managed to untwist his wing, retaining good movement and flexibility....so not as bad as first feared.
Pictures below show initial intern and then a few hours later after some meds and food, with Ryker showing enough calm to begin cleaning and preening himself.
An x-ray will be due next week to establish the next course of action and plan of care.

Please, if you can, donate to help this little bundle of pecking joy get better! 🥰🤣

Here they are.....all lined up for tonight's 'lodgers'!
(Seven bowls of fish!)

Another guest arrived at hotel Gull Guardians, Ryker

Found in Rhyl with a twisted wing, seems to be just a small break, we will administer meds and keep him cosy until we can return to the vets for a proper checkup and x-ray.....

Picture of Ryker in a future post....soon

If you can spare some change to help us please donate to our gofundme, found on our main page, there have been some very generous donations recently which have literally saved life's, it's very much appreciated

🐦Urgent🐦

We have had 2 new gulls admitted into our care within the past 24 hours with a few more reported that we was unfortunately unable to help 😢

Herbert (1st pics)
Herbert was made aware to us yesterday in the gardens of Richmond House in Rhyl. Speaking to one of their lovely carers it appears that he was there a few days and they had contacted the likes of the rspca for assistance in which no one came forward.

Poor Herbert has a bad wing which began oozing so he has been administered antibiotics and will be off to see our vet in the morning 🤞

Daisy (2nd pics)
Daisy's finder contacted us after finding her at Bodelwyddan Golf Club with a bad eye and sore wings.
We believe she was originally spotted on Artillery Row (0.4 miles from where she was picked up)
She is exhausted and is to on antibiotics and painkillers. She will to be visiting our vet in the morning.

Funds are desperately needed to try and save Herbert's wing and Daisy's eye..

Baby Gull Season Has officially began ❤️‍🩹

This is little Gizmo
He was reported to us last night having been found in rhyl limping and with a cut to his leg. Thank you so much to his finders for picking him up and keeping him safe until one of our wonderful volunteers could get to you.

He will be off to Idlewild Animal Sanctuary for his rehabilitation where he will be very much well cared for and get to grow up with other baby birds.
Best of luck little man ❤️

Of an evening Nibbler takes advantage of the water bowls before bed, every one of them 😆😆😆 the result of which is this slick eagle look!

Meanwhile Madonna uses this opportunity to visit every food bowl as tea time is whitefish' time!! She's a sweet bird, they all are. They have just been dealt a bad hand, but things are looking up for them now 😊

We had a visit from one of our resident colony members, Steve (yes another seagull named Steve!) earlier today. He was quite happy to pose and you will see his ballerina talents too if you watch to the end. He is a stunner and nicely rounded!!

RESCUE EXPLAINED......

The neglect changes you.
The abuse hardens you.
The suffering breaks you.
The ignorance angers you.
The indifference disturbs you.
The injustice destroys you.
On a daily basis…your faith will be tested.
Your heart will be wounded....
Your soul will be altered.
On a weekly basis…you’ll question yourself.
You’ll question your strength.
You’ll question the world.
On a monthly basis…you’ll fall down.
You’ll get up.
You’ll go on…
On a yearly basis…you’ll look back…
You’ll see faces…
You couldn’t save them.
You’ll learn to mourn.
To grieve.
To sob.
You’ll learn to trust a little less.
To do a little more.
To fight a little harder.
You’ll learn to try.
To hope.
To pray.
You’ll learn to fail.
To succeed.
To accept.
You’ll learn when to hold on.
When to give up.
When to let go.
You’ll learn who you are.
What you stand for.
Why that matters.
Then… at times… you’ll forget why you matter.
You’ll question what you’re doing.
You’ll wonder if it’s worth it.
But…here’s the good news… When you forget…
When you question…
When you wonder…
All you have to do…
Is take a look around…
And you’ll see them.
You’ll see their faces.
You’ll see their smiles.
You’ll feel their love.
In their eyes, you’ll see their journeys…
You’ll remember their beginnings…
You’ll know how far they’ve come…
You’ll remember when they didn’t know you…
When they didn’t trust you…
When they’d given up.
You’ll remember how you healed them…
How you loved them…
How they loved you, too.
And as you look back…
You’ll want to move forward…
For them… and because of them.
In your darkest hours, you’ll look around…
To find the differences made…the hope given…
and the lives saved…
Because you existed.
In those moments, when you look into their eyes…
Every doubt will be erased.
Every question will be answered.
Every worry will subside.
Because in that instant…in each of your hearts…
You both share the very same thought: “Every bit of pain was worth it…for this moment here with you.”
And honestly…no matter what else happens…
Those moments hold all the strength you need…
To keep going.
Rescue is pain.
Rescue is joy.
Rescue is worth it…because they are worth it.
And that’s the honest truth.
