Teaching your dog to stay no matter what you’re doing can be a very useful cue! But did you know that taking your attention away from them when doing so is where it gets tricky?
At Paws & Progress group classes, we show you exactly how to work on this, so that you can be just like Tara and Boyd with that stunning focus even when attention is removed. This is now a transferrable skill for anywhere - whether it’s at home whilst prepping dinner, or in a coffee shop ordering your favourite festive latte!
Our next group class is now available to book on our website. Please click the link in our bio to find out more!

Have you ever wondered why some dog trainers might tell you that actually a walk every single day isn’t always necessary?
Now, of course it’s great for their health, and this isn’t us saying you can get away with hardly ever walking your dog... However, if you have a dog that can get aroused easily, then it might sometimes be a good thing to hit the pause button on your walkies every once in a while.
It must be said though, that when trainers use the term ‘arousal’, we don’t actually mean in the term you may be thinking of! By arousal, us as dog trainers will always mean the build up of emotions that occurs in a dog as a result of a specific event. This could be positive events, or negative events - it all counts!
By therefore considering the sink metaphor when it comes to your dog, you are making a conscious effort to consider your dog’s emotions on a day to day basis. Thinking about what has gone on that day, whether it’s an encounter with another dog, a big drive, or even just a smashed plate on the floor, will all mean you have a better understanding of how your dog might be feeling.
