Update on the little hoglet weighting 74g he is now 96g

He is still very weak but you wouldn't believe I have just cleaned him out!!!

This little hoglet came in early tea time full of flystrike, wobbling and dehydrated also falling over has he is so weak only weighting 98g. Fluids giving, all the eggs removed and put in incubator to warm up before giving his a feed. After he had warmed up he had about 2ml of lactose free kitten milk and a small dish of milk put in the incubator. He did his best to feed himself out of a dish. He has had a top up feed and fingers crossed he is still with in the morning 🤞🤞🤞

Morning all! I have had a few days away to recharge my batteries. And the rescue is open again.
Oakley came into the rescue on the 15th July weighting 63g under 12 days old. It has been touch and go with him, but there's something about him that makes me wonder if he will ever go back to the wild. He is now 600g but he is coming in the day eating and just walking around. So I decided to put him in my secure bit of my garden to see if the is out in the night will tiring him out. I have a camera on him and so far he as stopped in the house. This video is his 1st time ever looked at outside world..

Morning!

Not getting chance to say I have room in the rescue. As soon as one coming free there is one to take it place. Sadly the hoglet that came in the other day sadly passed away. Then I have 4 more hoglets in as mother and hoglets were disturbed by a man putting up a fence on North Field Lane. Everyone acted quickly and a lady called Pam was straight on the phone and she put mum and hoglet into one of their spare Guinea pig cages as I was block on my drive by the man who was putting my fence in. When I was able to go to look at them mum was in a corner and the hoglets where in the middle of cage screaming for mum. I needed to see how warm the hoglets where so glove off I felt one who was ice cold and them the other 3 were all the same mum had all ready rejected them. I quickly made the decision to take the hoglets and them mum would be released that evening. It's not a decision I like making as it means sleepless nights for me but it's the best for the hoglets. 🦔

From 10 mins ago I am now full.

Sorry I can only advice you on finding another Hedgehog Rescue or if you are able to care for the hedgehog I can do the stool sample that are needed to determine if there are any internal parasites present and do the treatment while they are in your care.

Other Hedgehog Rescue that may be able to help you in Yorkshire.

Hedgehogs and especially Hoglets need keeping warm and getting to a rescue or vet as fast as possible. Speed can save lives.

Had a call from Jessica this morning, she was on the school run and one of the pupils had found a hedgehog in a drain, it was truly stuck in there. The site manager had started to break up the tarmac before I got there. I then finished breaking up a foot of tarmac away the to cut the pipe with a hammer and chisel. We had some secateurs then to cut the pipe in two. Look what have done to my hand it will go down eventually lol. The lad that spotted him was so happy and named him Alan. A big thank you to him the site manager, Head of the school and the teacher who helped pull the pipe open for us to release him. Alan as been weighted, checked over as a few scrapers on his foot. Had fluids for the shock off it all and now resting in a cage and will be watched. It's a good job I am handy with an hammer oh my hand say too handy 🤣🤣🤣

Had to share this just so cute. He was brought in to the rescue yesterday. He is 63g, eyes just starting to open and the flies had started laying their eggs on him, he's very weak and he could have an infection. Not sure how long he as been away from mum. All clear of the eggs so now in the incubator with the soft toy. This is how I found him in the night. All my fingers are crossed that he was found in time or his mum didn't kick him out.

A little tried this morning was up late waiting for a hedgehog to come in from Sheffield, I was told it had a wound to his head. When he arrived and I started to uncurled so I could see the wound and to start cleaning it up. As I did this I could see movement there which were maggots big ones and small ones then I could clearly see that he had half his face hanging off and I could see bone. I quickly started sucking the maggots out off his to stop them eating him more and to make him more comfortable as I knew I had to drive him to the vets to be pts. I then made the call to Springfields 24/7 vets.When I landed home at 12ish I couldn't stop thinking about him and how long he had been like that and what pain he must have been in. So glad we have a 24/7 vet in Rotherham because this hedgehog would have had to wait until this morning as only vet are aloud to Euthanate an animal and rightly so. 🦔🦔🦔

Charmilla had lunch out day at Cherry Tree Garden Centre. It's very hard when you have hoglets to feed when on less than 3hourly feeds, sometimes they have to come with you 🦔 just so you can do things normal people do 😁 xx

Very busy day Vets this morning picking Jeff up, he had very large abscess on his face with the infection running down his chest and then helping Sue get ready for the shed going up this weekend. Then had a call out and sadly a vet to have him pts 😪 I hate this part off it very much. Sorry for having to cancel the ones who was coming to see the hogs 😔 and thank you to who ever left the cat meat 😊

This little one came in yesterday afternoon covered in fly strike and cold, once all the eggs where off into the incubator to warm up. Now he is tooking into the cat meat 🦔
