Regardless of yesterdays end result not being quite at planned, can we just take a moment to appreciate how awesome this horse is going to be for the future ❤️
He came in from the field sound and happy this morning and has had a lovely sleep on his stable ready for some xc training later on this week while it’s fresh in his mind!

A bittersweet day for us at Chillington hall BE100 regional Qualifiers.
I walked the xc course on Friday evening and thought it was going to be a testing track for him with things he’s not had to tackle before.
We did a super dresaage for 26 penalties and jumped clear showjumping.
We went into xc sitting in 1st place but unfortunately had to retire on course.
He didn’t start the course feeling confident and was over jumping even the easy fences. We got through the first difficult combination which was causing a lot of chaos for the other competitors. Unfortunately, he just wasn’t responding to my leg at all and I felt he was going to cause himself an injury or have a real confidence crisis if I’d pushed him all the way home.
He ground to a halt at what should have been an easy log and then again jumping into the water so I opted to pull him up and continue our training at home.
Nevertheless, he’s happy, fit and well and on our way home.
Super pleasing to have been in podium position going into the final phase but today just highlighted the extra exposure and training he needs going forward.
Thank you to my super team for coming to support 🥰

Podium finish 🥉 for myself and my dancing partner at the Petplan Area Festivals today.
Just under 0.3% off the winning score 😬
I was chuffed with our test despite the unnecessary spook, which sealed our fate with the sharp drop in marks for that movement.
He felt fantastic though and was really happy to strut his stuff in front of the judges.
Unfortunately, we just missed out on qualifying but we’re keeping our fingers and hooves crossed that we’ll be accepted on a wildcard for the champs.

Big thanks to Sophie for always being on hand to help and support us.

Aston le Walls Equestrian Centre’s BE100 yesterday.
One pole down in the showjumping unfortunately knocked us off the top spot to finish us 3rd.
Loved having my support team Stefan, Sophie, Emma, Helena, mum, Zara and Jacob ☺️
Huge thanks to MB Veterinary Physiotherapy for working wonders on Nova on Thursday.

Imagine if we all showed up and cheered for each other the way has….

💕 The Symbolism of Snoop Dogg at the Olympics: The Power of Positive Energy

When Snoop Dogg appeared at the Olympics, his presence was more than just a celebrity cameo. It symbolized how one person’s positive energy and genuine enthusiasm can transform an atmosphere. Snoop’s infectious joy and laid-back charisma brought a fresh, uplifting vibe to the event, proving that positivity is contagious.

In a setting as grand and high-stakes as the Olympics, his lighthearted commentary and excitement showed the world that embracing joy and authenticity can create a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone. Just like Snoop Dogg, each of us has the power to change the atmosphere with our positive energy and enthusiasm.

Food for thought: Be your circle’s hype man.

First lot of Area festivals at Kingswood Equestrian Centre for the summer 2024 season for us today.
68.38% saw us into 5th place, not miles off the winning score of 69.9%.
Unfortunately, Nova had gone quite tight in his back on Thursday, so had to have yesterday off and an emergency treatment from MB Veterinary Physiotherapy.
Although feeling very settled in his test he just couldn’t give me the extra engagement needed for the higher marks today.
Our next and final chance to qualify is in a couple of weeks, so hopefully he’ll be feeling back to normal by then 🤞🏻
He still looks stunning and gives me all he can ❤️

**Showjumping Clinc**

Hi all, I will be running a showjumping clinic on the 28th July at Lazy Acres.
I already have a few names on my list so please pop me a message if you would like to join in so I can organise you into small groups of similar abilities.
Please state the height in which you are currently comfortable at…
however, these sessions are going to be more about improving your ability to ride safely, confidently and effectively around a course rather than focussing on a specific height.
Of course if you have a specific goal in mind or something you are struggling with we will work together on achieving that too 😊

Each will be 55-60mins in duration.

This is our first time competitively riding through the new tests and he was fab.

Loads of feedback from the judge too which is always super helpful for progression. 🙌

Someone had to have a major wash off after our schooling session this afternoon.
Really impressed with how loose he felt following his 6th treadmill session at Lazy Acres Stables yesterday.
I just hope he dries off in time for MB Veterinary Physiotherapy’s visit in 45 mins time 😬

With competition season well underway, and hotter days finally upon us, here are some useful tips to keeping your horse cool!

What do you need?

> Numerous buckets of cold water
> Sponges
> At least one, but ideally 2 willing assistants.

How to cool

When pulling up after cross country, jump off and start walking immediately. If possible, start cooling the hind-quarters even before the saddle has been removed. There are large muscles in this area, which means a large amount of heat is produced here.

Apply large volumes of cold water over all parts of the body, paying particular attention to the hind quarters. Scraping between buckets is not necessary; it is more important to continue applying cold water. However, if you wish to scrape the excess water, do so every 30 seconds between walking and active cooling with buckets of water. The walking and cooling sequence is essential. Walking promotes air movement over the body to allow for water evaporation whilst walking encourages blood flow to the skin to increase the cooling effectiveness.

Stop cooling once the muscle over the hindquarters are cool to touch and the horse’s respiratory rate is less than 24 breaths per minute.

Don’ts

> Don’t place wet towels over a horse. Once these have warmed they act as insulation and prevent heat loss.
> Don’t place ice packs on your horse, this causes constriction of the blood vessels in the skin and prevents cooling
> Don’t let horses stand still for excessive periods of time
> Don’t prevent your horse from drinking small amounts of water during the competition (1/2 bucket), small amounts little and often will help keep your horse hydrated through the day.

Do monitor for signs of heat exhaustion
> Unusual behaviour or change in the demeanour of your horse (Quiet if usually fresh, or fresh if usually quiet etc.)
> Muscle Spasms
> Wobbly
> Increased re**al temperature
> Slow recovery

Remember it is very difficult to over-cool your horse! If you are concerned in any way, contact the onsite veterinarian immediately.
